That too, but even if there were no other changes, it would be worth it just for the removal of the narration.
The only flaw in the DC is the choppy music editing, but I can live with that.

Franklyn (2008) was another stylish film ruined by an unnecessary voice over if anything the voice over screws the film up in a big way.
Recently I saw The Ghost Writer.
It's a bit visually bland for a Polanski film Brosnan really doesn't bother to deliver when we all know he can.
Robert Harris based films all tend to be rather dull and this is not really an exception.
Ewan is Ok, Olivia Williams is rather good (as always) but it's not enough.
There is some hilarious, pointless dubbed-over expletives though (all pasted over Brosnan).
Lebanon . A stunning war movie about the first day of the war , the movie is shot entirley inside the tank and any outside scenes are seen through the view finder inside the tank and what you see is seen with cross hairs . Marvelous .
Eastern Promises solid performances all round but rather bland coming from Chronenberg. Suitably horrific in places but seemed rather safe despite the dangers presented in the situations.
Dressed To Kill seen it many times before still comes across more as a pithy Hitchcock fan's in-joke (a very well told one) than a piece of cinema in it's own right.
More of a guilty smile on the side of the mouth film than edge of your seat gripping thriller.

Ah, Dark City is fantastic. I'd recommend watching the Director's Cut, solely because the theatrical cut's narration at the beginning takes any and all mystery out of the movie.
And it just flows better.
I rented the DC to see if I needed to upgrade my regular DVD. I watched the first half pretty closely and didn't notice any changes (thanks for pointing out the voice over) and then I FF'd the rest, looking for changes that I never found. I double checked to make sure I somehow didn't watch the Theatrical again by accident.
But I do really like Dark City...

I found it enjoyable. We watched it through Netflix streaming, and I'm guessing it was the theatrical since it had the voiceover that explained what was going on before the movie even started. "Thanks," I thought, "Thanks for telling me what I'm probably not supposed to know is happening until its dramatically revealed."xhonzi said:

That's odd, I got a physical disc from Netflix not too long ago and it was the DC (thank goodness since I had no background on the movie). Maybe they have both versions?
That is really weird that they would include that voice over. I still have zero background on the movie, but heard it was good shortly after it first came out and have intended to see it ever since. Guess I just kind of forgot about it. Now that this thread has renewed my interest in seeing it, I'll be on the look out for the director's cut in order to avoid that VO.

The differences between the theatrical and director's cuts are very subtle, but make for a better film overall in my opinion. The stuff with his fingerprints is brand new, and the stuff with the hooker's son (daughter?) is also brand new, but beyond that, it's just little lines of dialogue here and there, or short extensions of scenes.
It's kind of like the differences between the different cuts of Blade Runner, though in this case, the removed narration is only relevant to the first minute or two of the film.
Carp, I may have to check it out again.

The Magnificent Seven. Last Thursday for $5 in theaters. Print and sound quality could've been better. Won something but gave it to the person who muttered the correct answer under their breath.
Is this still xhonzi's Inception thread?

Good flick. Amazing use of sound effects.

DIARY OF THE DEAD
Couldn't finish it.
First film to use the "1st Person" camera gimmick that didn't seem to capture anything close to a feeling of realism. It was stagey and the dialogue was atrocious.
Part of the problem was the image was too good. Too steady and well lit. I felt I was watching a regular movie with an occasional awkward reminder I wasn't. The shots were too staged and perfectly framed, and the use of stock footage only accentuated how phony they seemed.
On top of that there wasn't a moment of fear in the first 40 minutes. Zombies trapped in a pool I since was supposed to be scary, as was a zombie in a mummy costume, but both just made me roll my eyes.
SPOILER ALERT!
"Are we worth saving, you tell me?" and the zombie cries blood. GAG ME WITH A SPOON.
Its a pity that Romero hasn't made a good movie since Knightriders.
