Family Guy Star Wars Trilogy?

Author

I see this in the store(first 2) and have been reading about the Blu-ray Trilogy being released soon, are these really that funny? are the 3 movies on Blu worth $40? because I love a good comedy, but this would definitely be a blind buy for me because I have never seen Family Guy.

I'd say look up some clips on youtube and see if the humor appeals to you.

They're ok-but they are just humorous retellings of the films in the family guy format. I actually prefer the robot chicken spoofs because they aren't relying on the original story structure.

As a guy who does not dig Family Guy, these were what I would classify a 'hoot.'

I laughed at about 2/3 of the Star Wars jokes, and totally didn't get about 7/8 of the rest of the 'humor.'

I would say worth a rental just for the Star Wars jokes, but unless you love Family Guy, can't see it worth buying.

I'm not a Family Guy fan.  I was told, "It doesn't matter if you're a FG fan, if you're a Star Wars fan, you'll love it!  It's hillllllarious!" (Something I might say about the Robot Chicken Star Wars spoofs).

I found it neither hilarious nor something deserving of my love.  The first one I would summarize as: "Star Wars, but re-enacted with Family Guy characters and maybe 5% more jokes, none of which I found to be very funny."  I haven't seen the 2nd one, but I heard that it was less of a re-enactment, and more of a spoof.  That's probably better, but since I don't like FG sense of humor, I can't imagine I would enjoy it.  So I've skipped it.

The first one's okay.  Empire was nowhere near as funny.  I'm not really looking forward to Jedi.

I think the end of the ESB one sums up Family Guy humor pretty good. When the dog breaks fourth wall and says "Look, seriously, Lando is wearing Han's clothes."

It's not actually a joke, nor does it take something and turn it humorous. It's just there.

One thing you should take into consideration is that FG, and Robot Chicken to a degree, are as much about pop culture references as they are about the characters, sometimes even moreso.  If you're outside the US, unless you know a lot about American pop culture over the past 30 to 40 years, you'll miss half the jokes.

I didn't like them at all.

It looked like Paint Wars and wasn't as much fun as War Of The Stars.

I found Blue Harvest to be good, but really Family Guy is scraping the bottom of their joke barrel. Blue Harvest poked fun at Star Wars, not near as well as Robot Chicken has, but it still provided decent humor on the subject.

Something Something Something Dark Side (SSSDS) seemed to be just a reason to put FG characters in ESB. It never even attempted to poke fun at star wars, and honestly, the jokes that would have been funny, have been made stale by repetition on the show.

I honestly think the best writing ended when the show was canceled by fox years ago. Reviving a show like that is like bringing a long-dead corpse back to life to win a beauty contest. Somebody might enjoy it, but aside from watching it to avoid paid-programing, the show lost my interest after the 3rd 15 minute chicken fight.

In the end, if you are going to watch one, watch Blue Harvest. SSSDS is something that might make you laugh, but I dunno. Take your chance with it.

A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Yeah, ZIZ is right, both shows are very American in nature. I usually joke about how shallow we are in that the rest of the world can import our television and movies and enjoy them just fine, but we have to remake anything we decide to import (The Office, Life on Mars, long ago there was even a pilot for a US Red Dwarf that thankfully crashed and burned). But I guess when it comes to something like Family Guy (which I don't like) and Robot Chicken (which I love), we have finally found something culturally ours. Hopefully we continue to develop along this path and come up with better stuff in the future.

As for Family Guy not being as good after it was revived, I was never really into it before or after, but I feel that way about Futurama. I was very disappointed when it was canceled, and I was extremely excited when years later I heard it would be revived. Watched the first two new "movies", and found myself not the least bit interested in ever seeing another new episode of Futurama again. Still love the original season though.

The new season of Futurama is pretty good.  Not up to par with the best seasons, but "The Late Philip J. Fry" and "The Prisoner of Benda" are instant-classic episodes.

Avoid "Attack of the Killer App" at all costs, though.  Garbage.

What are the best seasons of Furama ? I must have seen season 1 and 3, and found these both good... Really good.

Seasons 2 and 3 are the best, followed by 1 and 4 (pretty much tied).  Then comes season 6 (the current season), with season 5 (the four DVD movies) coming in last.

Though, to be honest, seasons 1-4 are pretty damn close to being equal.

I really liked the first four seasons.

Maybe I gave up too soon by quitting after the first two DVD movies (which would be the first half of season five, I guess?)

Funny thing, I enjoyed the first movie the most and liked each successive one less.

What? Because they don't make good exports? Ridiculous! Every other culture is allowed to do its own thing in its television, but American television must remain neutral, is that it? And fail? Seriously? Those shows are extremely successful.

Family guy fails for me, not because I don't get the pop culture, but because the show is not funny.

Fails for you is a relative thing. Twilight, puppies, and the Playstation 3 all "fail" for me personally, but that doesn't mean shit, as all three of those things are insanely popular.

I don't find Family Guy funny either, but that doesn't make it any less successful.

Took the words right out of my mouth.

Of course fails for me is a relative thing.  I did say "me," right?  And where did I say it isn't successful?  I'm just saying I don't think it's funny.

The first two DVD movies are the first half of season five, yes.

The DVD movies were aired on Comedy Central in blocks of 4 split-up episodes to a movie (so "Bender's Big Score" becomes "Bender's Big Score, Part 1," "Part 2," "Part 3," and "Part 4"), though instead of waiting for all 4 movies to be done and airing them as a 16-episode season, they aired each movie separately as 4 episodes in a row (so, 2-hour blocks).

Regardless, the movies are production code 5ACV01-5ACV16, and the current season is 6ACV01-6ACV12 (with 6ACV13 being the Christmas special, and 6ACV14-6ACV26 airing next year, further confusing the question of how many seasons Futurama has).

Sorry, my mistake. When I hear words like "failure" and "fail" I tend to think of real actual dictionary definitions, not internet jargon.

In real life, "succeed" and "fail" are opposites, thus when someone says something fails, they are saying it is not successful.

I dunno, I find Family Guy one of the funniest shows on TV at the moment...Granted, there aren't many shows I find that funny (The Inbetweeners is pure comedy gold---Look it up on youtube yanky boys & girls) ...Blue Harvest was better than Darkside.

The regular FG show is hilarious tho.....

Not to keep beating this horse (I know, too late) but I wasn't using fail from an internet standpoint.  It fails for me - I don't think it is remotely funny, and therefore in my view it is a failure.  And yet it is clearly successful, as other people do think it is funny and it has been on the air for some time now.

I don't think we're saying anything different.
