A completely different ending?  How different is it from that preview version from all those months ago?

 Very, very different.

Can't wait!!!

This will be the first prequel edit to make me go insane from anticipation.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Hey bobgarcia74,

Love what you are doing with this edit.

I have a question, and I had a look through the pages and didn't see what I am about to ask covered, but if it was please forgive me.

I am wondering if you are going to be doing anything with the way we see anakin get wounded on Mustafar?

I always thought the way he loses his legs wasn't very dramatic, nor the way he burns, and the way the burns look. I remember thinking back to the OT and how when we only saw Vader's head, it always signified he had gone through a really torturous and brutal transformation. For me in ROTS it never sold that part for me. And so, I am wondering if something more graphic could work - a bit like how murphy is shot to pieces and becomes Robocop. For me, that would sell the transformation I think better, as it allows the audience to really sympathise with what has happened to anakin.

I'll be looking into this for sure. Anything I can do to help that part out will be considered. Thanks for asking.

Great work. It is definitely reaching that classic look.

It's kind of weird to see a scene from the prequels and think about the original trilogy...

Great job!

This edit is looking amazing Bob! Now i have two edits that i must look forward too. This and Ady's ESB: Revisited. But anyways, when will you have this edit done Bob?

I honestly don't get the color correction.  It just looks more washed out.  Amazing edit thus far, I just don't get the color correction.

Author

It isn't colour correction it's colour adjustment.

Colour correction is changing colours back to their original presented state.

What Bob is trying to do here is change the colours to create a different feel to the film (specifically matching the more subdued colours of the OT).

The OT had a lot more colour than is generally felt (the DVD's hide them under weird tints) but the colours were more subtle than generally applied in the PT.

Yeah the OT had that old and busted look,

The PT has all the New hotness!

Give me Old and Busted any day of the week - so bob is trying to get the old busted hotness and I think he has more or less got it

Why exactly?

The SW galaxy is not old and busted during the PT.  20 years of Imperial oppression does that.

The point of the PT was that the rot had set in underneath the shiny facade.

I really appreciate the skills involved in the work being done, but it may be going a little too far in some places.

There is shiny and there is comic book and cartoonish.

I'm all for the stylist differences between the early PT era and the OT era (that would be like the difference in design styles between WWI and WWII) but this is meant to be Star Wars and not Roger Rabbit the films should look like they are taking place in the same universe but in a different time period.

Agreed.

Bob seems to making good calls on this.

But ROTS is such a flawed movie. I'd hate to see him spend so much time on recoloring if the major plot errors aren't fixed.

I can see how someone would look at the big steaming pile that ROTS is, and wonder why making color changes would be so high on the list.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

Speaking of the weaknesses of ROTS, I always thought Anakin's abrupt turn to the dark side was the biggest flaw. I don't think Bob has addressed this, but I could be wrong.

Here's an idea I had that I posted last year in the Prequel Radical Redux Ideas Thread. I've always thought this would work great as a way to somewhat explain Anakin's turn.

Here's an idea I had regarding his quick turn (but not relating directly to the "reason"). It seems to me that when he confronts Palpatine and discovers he's the Sith, he's almost ready to kill him, but he changes his mind so quickly later. Instead, as per George's original plan, edit the scene in Palpatine's hallway so that Anakin seems conflicted by Palpatine's admission. He ignites his saber breifly, but after some prattle from Palps (insert "reason" here), he turns off his saber, and Palpatine smiles. Scene ends. (Anakin never alerts Mace. The Jedi already suspect Palpatine will not turn over power. I think there's a deleted scene that may be useful here). When Mace shows up, Anakin is nowhere to be seen. But he's actually sulking conflictedly in the shadows (maybe footage from the council chamber scene could be darkened and rotoscoped). While the duel continues, Anakin experiences his true turn: an emotional crescendo where we hear in his mind waves of overlapping voices (Qui Gon: "He is the chose one", Palps: "I see you becoming the greatest of all the Jedi", etc etc.). The voices continue and jumble up, getting louder and becoming unbearable (the right music could really sell this). Just as the voices reach a peak and crash into silence, Palps seems to be beaten. Anakin, now turned, suddenly steps out to quietly dismember Mace. After the electrified Mace flies out the window, the kneeling Anakin simply says "I will do whatever you ask, my master."

Bob, based on the great work you're doing, I'm wondering if you might be able to pull off something like this.

I have to agree with rpvee that the colours do look washed out in these videos.  However I am aware that these are only tests thus far anyway so being too critical at this stage is pointless.

There is a sheen to the prequel trilogy that is very irritating, I mean are the floors, walls, ships, droids, faces, haircuts (did I miss anything?) polished around the clock?  In my opinion this seems to be due to the overuse of green screen and CG effects for backgrounds rather than using actual sets.  You can see this difference between TPM (more use of actual sets) and AOTC / ROTS (heavy use of green screen).  Phantom had its flaws, like the others, but I think it portrayed the universe, stylistically speaking, in a more convincing way.

Getting to the point...I think changing the visuals to closer match the original trilogy is a good idea but I'm not sure if it will be all that convincing in the long run.  I hope Bob can prove otherwise of course.

The crux of the matter is that ultimately its Bobs choice and what he decides to do in the end is gospel.

Also selectively remembering details in a way that presents the rememberer in a finacially advantageous light.

I think once he's colored the engine glows, and all the surrounding aspects, it will score. I see where he's going and I personally can't wait to see how this turns out.

Thanks all for the comment. Once I get a few of these shots complete I'll post something up again. With more work I think they can really win over alot of people.

I added the white glowing sheild to the Hanger scene, and with the color change I think it really puts the look over the top, and will make it sell alot better. But I still have alot of other things to fix and adjust to that clip, so I'll hold off on posting that till it's alittle more presentable.

Just a quick pic of what I was mentioning in the last post. Still more work to do tho. But that Sheild just sells the whole scene IMHO.

Dude!!! Awesome!!! XD
