I highly disagree. I think they're ugly and too low in the frame.
My suggestion would be to use the subtitle-free 2004 DVDs for the shots with subtitles, and use msycamore's script once the video is completely done to add the proper theatrical subtitles back in.
(If necessary, I'm sure msycamore wouldn't mind adding them in himself if you got the video to him. Then again, I'm speaking on his behalf when I have no right to.)
And don't be afraid to cut in full GOUT shots when necessary. It may not look the best, but there's not much else you can do. Just try to get the GOUT shots looking as nice as you can get them to look.
