I'd replace the Force choke with the mind trick...I can't believe Luke using/learning this technique at this point in the movie.

Just as Palpatine should be the only lightning user, Vader should be the only Force choker in my view.

I can see your point but this always makes me think about the first Jedi Knight game where the Force powers are clearly separated into light and dark side ones which didn´t make a lot of sense to me... Luke choked those guards but didn´t kill them while Vader could very well mind trick someone into suicide. :)

It just seems a bit like overkill, if he is to Force Choke these guards why not Force Choke Bib Fortuna too?

Maybe the green pig D&D guys are more strong minded that Imperial Stormtroopers and Mr Tentacle.

Yeah, I'd always thought that Force powers weren't universal.  As in, one of the manifestations of the Force's power in Vader was his ability to choke people - this doesn't mean that no other Force user can have this ability, just that it's not very likely.  The manifestation of the Emperor's power is powerful energy bolts, etc.

It appears that no one (except perhaps you, Bingowings) shares this view, and certainly not George, as he's got Dooku using energy bolts and Luke using choking, etc.

I'd go further and say that Anakin using the Force Choke on Padme was a mistake.

I always read it as Vader taking out his inability to breath naturally on other people (sort of like him saying, "You are giving me grief, here have a taste of what I have to put up with").

I'd have had Anakin throw Padme to the floor or give her and old fashioned physical slap (domestic violence isn't something you need superpowers to do and it would make that scene much stronger and suitably vile).

This isn't so radical (although I do remember rumours around the time of ROJ's release, backed up of course of it's original title 'Revenge of the Jedi', that Luke after discovering who his daddy was has turned to the dark side.......sneak photos showing him wearing a black cloak disguising his features and making him look.....evil. The force choak was all part of the play.....was he still good ol' Luke or did he answer those telepathy calls from his dad?), What about the Gammon Guards rubbery fingers that almost bend back on themselves while restraining Han & Luke?

To be honest I never liked those designs at all (for a Star Wars film).

As an action figure it looked fine in a D&D sense but George kept complaining about the first take of the Cantina and how it was too like an Egyptian wall frieze with people wearing animal heads.

So what did he do for ROTJ ?... pig men, squid men.

Some of the early designs were less obviously piggy in fact rather impressive.

As they stand yes the rubber fingers do need sorting out, there are others but they are the most obvious example.

Beedo's spaghetti hands are another thing that needs looking at.

Interesting, I always imagined that Vader´s Force choke was just his favorite way to use what we could call Force telekinesis, I mean, the same Force power Luke used to grab his lightsaber on the wampa cave and Yoda to rescue Luke´s x-wing, Vader used to twist one else´s throats from time to time... :)

Kinda funny, actually... I remember that on the RotJ novelization the Emperor´s energy bolts are described as some "never seem before corruption of the Force" or something like that... Having Doku using them and even Palpatine in the PT kinda makes them so causal now... :/

Also since I am thinking of ROTJ, how about adding the force choke rumble to the scene in the begining with Luke choking the guards.

I personally love both ideas (when Luke shouts out "DARTH!" and force-grabs his sabre, would it be lit the whole time as he rips it out of Vader's hand and starts pounding on him?  That would be interesting to see in motion); I still would like to see a test where Luke chokes the guards without raising his hand up.

I always thought he shouted "NEVER!"

So did I.

ie.:

Vader: Give yourself to the Dark Side. It is the only way you can save your friends. Yes, your thoughts betray you. Your feelings for them are strong. Especially for... sister. So, you have a twin sister. Obi-Wan was wise to hide her from me. Now his failure is complete. If you will not turn to the dark side, then perhaps she will.

Luke: NEVER!

Not to seem like a douche, but I think Angel did one similar and the matte was even enhanced.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Yeah, it's definitely "Never."  That's what I've heard since I was 4 or 5.

Author

Yeah, Luke says "Never!"

One thing that always got to me about the final duel is the fact that the lightsabers are so damn bright, but not a single reflection or silouette appears anywhere.  Plus, they left the shadow of Vader's stunt blade in.  I'd really like to see those things taken care of.

I always thought he said Father as in a warning, in that he had no wish to stab his father in the back and give him a fair chance to turn back to the light side of the force.

Just to complete the set here was my ancient take on the same idea :

i have a possible solution to the ewok question. i was trying to put it together on Final Cut but i am having issues.

when we first see scout troopers, what if they are ambushed by ewoks? the rebels could go down to assist them perhaps? this could introduce them as killers. footage for this can be stolen from the battle of endor.

after the encounter, they could just go to the village without being tied up, bonding over a common enemy. leia just follows wicket there. not sure what luke's journey would be.

Yes, ESF, and all credit given to Angel who inspired me to try to make a motion mock up of that scene...my image is a grab from a test render.....I gave up on it as I would need to spend time texturising the shuttle......I still have all the files and have saved the project so I might go back to it.

Heres some photos from a Japanese Model builders Blog here's the link:http://yumen.chicappa.jp/ModelersBible/ they're all pdf's and you'll need to download them.

What if after that, Luke grabbed vader's red sabre instead of his, so it looks more graphical that he's almost turning to the dark side, and that Vader is up to come back to the light side

I wonder what Dr Freud would make of that suggestion?

Good call though especially seeing as he lost his Father's good 'weapon' in their previous encounter.

Luke chucking it away in disgust would also have added potency.

Didn't catch it. What'd Freud say?

And yes, it'd add potency when he looks mech hand (and here ot could somehow be added a shot of his other hand looking the red sabre) and then turns it off.

Being even more radical, Vader could find Anakin's sabre at the end of ESB.

Having Vader find his old saber...say he could find Luke's hand too and.....Nooooooooooooo!

Oh, didn't notice

I'm still very enthusiastic with the idea of Vader handing the two sabres turned on when he's trying to convince Luke, and then having them fight with the other's sabre for a while...

Author
Time

I'm skeptical about this idea. I don't think the audience should know that Vader turns good at this point, I feel like switching their sabers would spoil the surprise of his redemption.
