This "boring" monitor screen will be replaced with a decent one.

When available and possible the monitors will be replaced/enhanced. Retros are gone.

Well, I think if ANH is to be butchered then Chewie should have more facial expressions (not just his mouth closing/opening) and also it would be interesting for him to have a more masculine voice. Something more lion'ish perhaps.

And maybe in this scene on the right side there could be some kind of reactor or something. You know, like those glowing things in TPM in the Kenobi/Qui-Gon vs. Darth Maul fight?

I don't know, just put some sort of energy source there, so that it looks more futuristic and advanced.

Also in most of the scenes with R2 - he is moving very, very slowly. His head/wheels are so slow. Maybe his movements can be sped up a little. Not much, but just a little.

And in this scene - maybe there could be a ship flying by in the background? Just to give an impression that there's some other stuff going on.

Oh and what's up with those elevators? It takes almost forever for those doors to close -

Further ideas: when Luke han and chewie are on the elevators , in the far shot( the one with the matte) if you think the layout a bit you will notice that the big hole at the right with the half extended bridges makes no sense.

So removing the doors/bridges whatever and adding a ROTJ or TMP reactor like pole in the midde. meaning that we have to expand the shot to the right and pan it back to our heroes. Subtle changes will not affect the lightning settings(maybe a slow flickering just for the sake of it). The station needs more powerful shots and more industrial look.

Working with large scales with small rooms it brakes the illusion of vastness but tho it creates claustrophobic results. Well you have to sacrifice some to gain some others.

ha!

Very true.

I love that idea of random TIE patrols

Thank you sir. That was bothering me too. I hope mr J can run some tests :D

Things I'd love to see in a future fan edition of ANH:

Enhaced screens and displays (computers inside the Death Star look odd).

Insert some PT SDs and stuff. There could be two excuses to do so:

The first one, to insert some old imperial PT stuff, could be that Tatooine is a planet really far from the center of the Empire, and as it's a rather "quiet" planet, with no intervention of the Empire , they could send some old ships, reserving their ultimate stuff for areas which really require them. There's a quote from EU (know this isn't cannon but it's just to show the spirit of what I'm trying to say) from a trooper of the 501st:

"For months we had treated the Rebellion like a disobedient child"...

Untill the destruction of the DS, Rebellion was kinda little, little threat to the Empire.

The other excuse, and still following the spirit of that phrase, is that, as the Rebellion is at the time of ANH a little, clandestine and poor organisation, they couldn't select their ships just as if they had much money. They'd just take any "collaboration" they could, and some old Republic-time junk could do.

http://img714.imageshack.us/i/tatoot.png/

This could even enhace the feeling the OT gives us of "used technology" in the future.

And to finalize, another thing that could do is including a scene after de DS destruction, of Vader aproaching Coruscant and giving explanations to the Emperor or something like that

This is very interesting. The artist and photographer Vincent Fournier took some amazing shots a space looking rock desert that might add something to tattoine. Im impressed that his mood and colors are like mac's paintings so it can add some much more interesting landscape variation and interest to the poor 77's star wars.

The little space man in the pictures add even more to the sci fi and loneness feeling that this planet should have :)

Plus i find this image comparison very very interesting :)

Also ideas and new approach to yavin. Id like something more alien. Combined with ancient temples etc. Dramatic lightning even weather conditions to replace the poor and boring pan scans of the forest can be similar to these.

Also i was testing some new sky ideas. nothing final.

The rays might actually point at luke. Someone pointed that could be cool that its raining. thats far from the concept that i like. Plus i dont know how far the home is from Ben and the dead jawas but the skies are pretty clear.

Angel, you never cease to amaze me. You have such a dynamic vision.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I read through this whole thread and ... wow! If all these ideas came to life, ANH would look so awesome! XD I'm a fan of the original version, but this is something I'd definitely like to see.

Just had an idea... or more like a flash -

you know how they went from lasers to bullets in Terminator Salvation?

It was a pretty bad movie, in my honest opinion, but I liked the idea of bullets.

So what I'm trying to say is - how cool would it look if stormtroopers fired bullets instead of lasers? You could have some serious blood spewing in the opening scene. And it would make the Vader entrance even more intimidating. Cause you would be, like, "Whoa! Those guys were nuts and killing everybody! And this is their leader?! He must be one twisted S.O.B.!"

... just imagine that white corridor all bloody and everything, with stormtroopers bodies lying on the floor and then... Vader appears!

Now is that impressive or what?

And also it would be interesting to hear different sound effects in that scene.

I know that R-Rated stuff isn't exactly Star War'ish, but since we're talking about RADICAL changes...

EDIT: I mentioned making Vader even more intimidating - how about putting some mechanical sounds to his movements? It would seem logical, since he's part man, part machine. And you would have to guess if he's a robot, or is he really a man?

People have always been terrified of tall, intimidating-looking robots XD

And what about his voice? How about making it a little bit lower? It would sounds more demonish.

On the one hand, that sounds easy, as the prop guns fired blanks anyway, and I believe you can see shell cases coming out every once in a while.

On the other hand, it means you have to digitally erase every laser blast in the film, AND add in digital blood and gore every time someone gets hit.

As someone who generally disapproves of a lot of the ideas in this thread, I'm surprised to say that I really like the idea of adding mechanical movement sounds to Vader.  It does make sense.

But it was... sloppy. :\ It was over the top and also not very photo realistic. I was thinking more of like the blood you see in WATCHMEN, where basically every blood spew had some sort of meaning and it wasn't there just for fun

(but the blood in Watchmen wasn't very realistic, so maybe it would be better just to make it as realistic as possible).

Cause the thing with blood in movies today is that - there is no blood. Most of the movies are rated PG-13 and when somebody gets hit all we see is  just smoke (in The Dark Knight, for example, the guy gets hit in legs by UZI and there's no blood... just smoke).

And when you take that away - that sense of fear and possibility of getting a serious (or lethal) injury - the audience doesn't feel threatened anymore.

We see those stormtroopers falling when they get hit. But what really happens to them? If we added blood and a little screaming or some sort of sound of agony - all the scenes would look different and more intense. Cause you would see what happens to a stormtrooper when he gets hit and you would be a little terrified because you wouldn't want that to happen to your heroes.

Using the soundboard Vader dialogue I tweaked some of his isolated ANH phrases.

I gave him a deeper tone, slowed him down a bit and gave him more heavy bass similar to the following two films....

Very nice, but I feel that you should make it just a little bit deeper than what you've made, because the ESB Vader voice (the best Vader sounded in the entire saga, imo) is still very slightly deeper than your edited ANH voice. Just a tiny bit deeper would make it perfect.

And also you should boost the hi range a little more. Vader's voice was booming in ESB, but it was still very crisp sounding.
