Why we love the prequels @ SW.com

I believe these SW fans at SW.com are lying their asses off, and this is all 'spin' to make the PT seem relevant.  If you ask a majority of OT fans, MOST of us readily admit Jedi is the worst of the 3 and understand its shortcomings, so we don't do spin like the PT fans do.

If you ask most Rocky fans, they are not going to defend Rocky V, and won't say Rocky IV is as a great as The Original Rocky either.  Same goes with most movie series as you never hear, "Alien Ressurection is just as great as Aliens, and the only reason fans still love Aliens is because they were younger and looking it the movie in that perspective.

Only in SW-ville do you keep hearing these stupid arguments that the only reason fans like us love the OT is becaus were kids, and there is no way we can fairly evaluate the PT because we're adults now.

I have still yet to meet a person in the real world who actually thinks the PT is great or better then the OT, even my friends kids and my nephews, so I believe these Star Wars dorks on SW.com are lying their asses off!

These aren't just fans, some are from the animated series and some are just other nobodies. I think it's just so funny that they need to make a panel about loving prequels and they're using every trick in the book defending those movies. It would've been even better if someone from OT.com would've been there guessing what everyone's going to say and then shot all those comments down LOL.

And in the time of greatest despair, there shall come a savior, and he shall be known as the Son of the Suns.

Two wonderfully bullshit quotes (feel free to add your own):

If The Phantom Menace came out in '77, it would have had the same impact.

One of the best things about the prequels is that they make the classic trilogy better.

The six portrait photos of the panelists all say derp.

It has all become a bit of a religion hasn't it?

You have the Old Testament and the New Testament and all that Non Koranical stuff and all the passion plays and Gnostic gospels pushed by fan-films and fan edits.

I do hate to think of people having Star Wars Wars a thousand years from now based on who shot first and if Threepio was gold or metallic green.

Don't forget the infancy gospels, Bingo, old chap.  You know, of Anakin's virgin birth and his childhood miracles.

I like this guy on the panle named Hodges who says that the Prequels were all laid out in 1976, so that should debunk all the PT haters that Lucas made this up as he went along.

Hey genius, he started making this shit up in 1980!!!!  Uh, Lucas gets a hard-on for incest because he had Leia kiss her brother!  Unless he considers dying when I was very young the same as dying at childbirth.  Unless he would have Uncle Owen forget he owned C3PO for 10 years when Episode IV rolls around as he is buying droids from the Jawas.

Oh yeah, and that one detail that Lucas calls the Saga now 'The Tragedy of Darth Vader,' yet the novel of Star Wars in 1977 is called, "Star Wars and the Adventures of Luke Skywalker."

Its a shame these fucking morons have to sit side by side with us as Star Wars fans.  I swear this shows me that PT defenders are the biggest fucking idiots!

Truth! Lucas has been reconning his own story for years, and yet those morons still eat every scrap of bullshit that comes out of LFL.

Exactly.  Listen, I don't mind if anyone enjoys the PT because to each their own.  But I do mind the PT defenders who make up shit to justify the movies, because that is insulting.

And another thing that annoys me is that all of those PT defenders continue to take shots at the Original Star Wars with their snide comments.  "It takes too long to get going."  or "The Effects are so ancient, thank god Lucas updated it."

If you notice they constantly scold OT fans for not looking the movies as 6 movie 'saga' yet every chance they get they talk about how much the PT is better, especially better then that movie called 'A New Hope."

Maybe its' not a saga to them either........  Kind of ironic?

I guess that makes us Orthodox Jews!

You know whats sad? The fact that there was a perceived need for this page. It's not "why we like Star Wars", or "what we like about Star Wars the last decade" or something. Because there are some successful SW things in that time, like the Clone War series and Force Unleashed. But no, this is specifically the prequels for people to show for Lucasfilm that in spite of the bad press there are some people on the internet that liked them. You never would have something like this for the OT, unless it was specifically for some anniversary celebration or something.

As they say, failure has a thousand excuses, success doesn't need one.

Had dinner with two of the panelists, both sides need to realize the difference between a concrete point, and emotional argument.  No one can prove what the other side likes.  By showing faults in their logic and statements you won't win the debate (since there's no conclusion) but you'll have the higher ground.  Opss PT reference!  Many Bothan's died to get you this information.

Amanaman Rulez+++++

Eitherway, most people involved in this debate agree that all the versions of these movies should be saved.

 None,

The problem is that PT fans constantly psychoanalyze why we don't like the movies, and if you listen to their arguments, they are all bullshit, or excuses why they think the PT is good.

I have never tried to convince someone that the PT is bad, but I will argue with them if they say stupid shit like 'Lucas had it all planned out in 1976', or that 'Star Wars was called Episode IV in 1977 but Fox wouldn't let him put it in.'  Those are just lies, and if listen to those panelists statements, alot of their comments are just plain lies and spin to justify why the PT is better received by the public.

Honestly, they are like political consultants who go on Meet the Press and they will say anything to defend their political party no matter what.  Atleast the fans of the OT will readily admit that Jedi is not as great as SW & Empire if we feel that way, and we don't just lie so we can convince someone its as great as its predecessors.

I have never heard a PT defender ever say ANYTHING bad about the movies, never say anything bad about a SE change, and I disagree with you that many enjoy that Lucas won't put out the OOT on BluRay.

I'm sorry but these a-holes are a big reason that we are not seeing the OOT on Bluray, because they except ANYTHING Lucas does to the movies, and Lucas has enough of them as a fanbase to keep making money.

Ugh.  That just left a bad taste in my mouth.  And even though they surely prepped their answers in advance to some degree, it still read like they were just struggling to pull answers out of their asses.  It's sad, but what CO said was my first impression too:  they're always just reaching to make the prequels sound better.

Not that that is going to stop you from dreaming… Only in this case, Gaffer is actually a guy.

Filoni: I actually really like the scene where [Lucas] put Hayden [Christensen] in at the end of Return of the Jedi. I heard that was controversal, but I liked it, it really tied it all together for me. It really made me go, wow, there's that boy, and he suffered through all of that. I thought it brought great closure... it was like hearing Vader say Padmé's name at the end of Revenge of the Sith. That blew my mind...Remember when we were kids, there was a big debate as to whether there was even a person in there.

Enough said.

Heh, yeah, that was the one that made me facepalm the most.  Even on those rare moments I can look past the obvious revisionisms and just look at it from a story perspective, I'm not thinking, "There's that little boy and how much grief and blah blah blah."  I'm thinking, "There's that idiot asshole who caused every damn problem in the universe.  Why do I have to see him again?"

You know if this guy was a teenager saying this, I would atleast be hopeful he could grow out of this when he is older and understands the movies better.  Heck I thought Jedi was better then Empire when I was a kid.

But the fact that this guy is my age, and talking like that really scares me about this fanbase anymore!

I'm not even going to click on the link, because I can tell it will make me want to cut a bitch.

I think the Picard and Riker double facepalm about covers it.  Good lord these people are stupid.

Yeesh, embarrassing. That whole thing is just like one of those low rent promotional event "parties" where they pay a c-list celebrity to say they love a certain vodka. Because y'know lucasfilm is all about the artistic expression and the vision and the expression and Easy Rider and the 60s and blah blah blah.

I'm happy that they are happy with the films as they are (not that I imagine they will stay in that shape for long anyway).

I just hope eventually we can at least reach our goal and be some way to being as happy ourselves.

I've said it before and I'll say it again George did us (not all Star Wars fans but us) a favour by doing what he did to these films.

It's given us a common cause and stretched the creativity of people on these boards beyond any passive recognition of the qualities of a series of films (whatever your personal take on them is).

That's why I posted a quote.  Why should us link-clickers be the only ones to suffer? ;-)
