That sort of Force Power was in use in ESB so I can't see it as a major problem if it's not too OTT (it's not like having Vader do cartwheels).
I think the rumble would work really well there as it is tapping to luke's emotion!

I always loved and hated that matte painting, the inconsistancy between the painting and the live action really sticks out and yet I love the painting (although It should have a lot more activity in it ( just think of the hanger bay in TPM with the N1's stacked 1 on top of the other) not to mention how the hell the Tyderium manages to get out of there with out hitting anything is beyond me

I have no problem with the design (it follows a tradition which can be traced through 2001 and every Star Wars movie).
The execution was wonky though
I don't know why they couldn't have pulled the real ships out for one last hurrah stuck them in a redressed Death Star hanger and added matte elements and real models.
This matte on it's own is too painterly in the fore and mid-ground, the live elements subsequently don't sit well inside it and the matte of the Falcon behind Lando is hideous (almost like ANH had never happened).
The perspective is all over the place too.
The lighting around the walkway into the shuttle is the worst part it is completely off compared to the rest of the composition of the shot, the only way I can justify it is if there is a REALLY bright light on the underside of the nose of the tyderium.

I think its just the lack of uniformity of the smaller craft that sticks out for me

Yeah Bingo the whole scene as you say is terrible...and laughable.
Either they didn't care or money was spent elsewhere, it looks cheap.
Don't know how to fix the scene........anyone know a good matte artist?
Perhaps the Fine-molds Falcon that Adywan is building is being used in his edit.

A mixture of live action, physical models and matte work (essentially what they tried to do here but done better) could make a redux of this shot work (I'm not sure there's anything salvageable from the original version beyond the design).
This is where a bit of 3D computer modeling could help because it could really help getting the perspective right when filming new models and actors for inserts.
Watching documentaries it seems that some of the live action inserts were an eleventh hour decision because of the dead areas in the middle of the shot.
Those don't look too bad it's the live action inserts that were already there (at the bottom of the frame) that don't sit right.
The lighting and the scale doesn't match the painting in any way.
The Lando shot is another matter.
A physical model may help but maybe cosmetic alteration of a ESB or even a ANH shot of the full sized prop might lend that shot a bit more physical reality than even a really good model.

Thanks Bingowings, but I do seem to recall some ROTJ Deathstar mockup shots in the ESB:R thread that are no longer there anymore, and I cant find them here either. A hanger shot, and control room shot, and a laser room shot. Maybe I'm going crazy.....

I think a lot of Angel's early mock-ups wandered away when he moved to a different hosting site. Darth Venal did some nice mock-ups too but they fell away when he was banned.
doubleofive's compilation of wishlist ideas (linked into my sig) has most of them but even that list was hit by the same problems.

It's difficult to say without going through the whole thread again (there are a lot of gaps which is a real shame for people trying to catch up on this thread).

I can't check your page because Miss Sakamoto is watching the last night of the Proms on the interweb telly in the tertiary control lab and the sheer number of lovely images on there slows our shared connection down to crawl.
Last time I checked there were a few gaps but they weren't Angel's.
I always thought it would be cool if Vader had Luke's saber turned on when he has it in ROTJ. He is already holding it for a couple of seconds. It will look something like this.
Also since I am thinking of ROTJ, how about adding the force choke rumble to the scene in the begining with Luke choking the guards.
I'd replace the Force choke with the mind trick...I can't believe Luke using/learning this technique at this point in the movie.
Just as Palpatine should be the only lightning user, Vader should be the only Force choker in my view.
I think it shows that Luke can still fall to the dark side. I think this movie should have really shown him as if he is really close to turning.
