Yes, I know he decided to direct the new one but it isnt out yet (at least I dont think it is, Im not sure :-/ )

But I do agree with you, I have never been a real big Milla fan and I know its focused on her but I dont totally follow the games and their storylines.....I tried to play Resident Evil 1 when it came out on PS1 and I got tired of it and never finished it or played the others.....I know, I know

The games certainly aren't for everyone's taste but the locations and most of the situations were already based on cinematic tropes (moldy gothic mansions, science fiction labs, giant animals, zombies, hidden chambers concealed via really silly triggered locks, special forces bods with gigantic guns etc).

None of the films capture the sense of isolation punctuated by sudden scares that the games do either.

It's difficult to see how they can justify attaching the brand name to something that barely resembles the source material.

Everytime a film comes out rumours circulate about a more faithful reboot.

Perhaps you might get your wish with the 5th film, when Uwe Boll takes over for PWSA, I think you would like this

You guys don't like Milla?

I thought all posts were supposed to be reasonable. :P

I've got nothing against the girl herself (I'm rather fond of fierce shouty ladies) but her character had no place being in the first one, and since then the whole series has been built around her when the only characters even remotely like hers in the source material are villains who turn into snapped off at the torso giant ant women or manacled tentacled screechy monster girls.

I've only seen the first one and didn't know anything about the source material other than it was a zombie game.

My verdict on the first movie - silly but fun.

With the first game the majority of it is set in the classic gothic moldy mansion houses you see in films like Psycho and Salem's Lot only much bigger and the surrounding woods, there is a lab but it only turns up at the end.

Zombies play a big role but so do huge giant spiders, giant man eating plants, giant snakes, giant green reptile ape things, bug people with multiple limbs, undead sharks.

There is only a small group of human characters, it's the sort of scenario that could be done on a real shoestring now.

Think REC but with giant animals and Scooby Doo style hidden chambers.

Fun as the first film was it was pretty much any zombie film with a bit of The Cube on the side with super Milla.

My oppinion on the RE movies is that the first one is decent. It could easily fit in as a prequel to the first game in some undetermined Umbrella location. I mean in spite of Milla's character being the main character she doesn't even get a name in the first one. It's the sequels where things get Milla overloaded. Though, I admit there's a bit too much hand to hand combat in the first one for my liking.

I've still to see a video game inspired movie that tops Silent Hill, even with the pointless exposition scenes, (would David Lynch explain the plot of Lost Highway or Inland Empire in the film?) and the edits made by Spence, JasonN and Aztek623 are good examples of an already watchable film made better in a fanedit.

Mr. Frink, I was just going through the garbage in this thread and couldn't help overhearing you might need a lawyer.

Mr Hutz,

Forseeing what your intervention will destine you to, and assuming you'll be busy enough with your client, I just thought you may need a lawyer yourself.

My fee is £200 an hour.

Red rag it gives you bull.

Film critic Mark Kermode has said that he doesn't believe films based on video games can work on principle.

I don't think that's the case it's more that film makers generally assume that audiences don't take the subject matter as seriously as novels and plays which have been adapted for cinema since the early history of the medium and follow suit.

I wonder if that would have changed if the Halo film hadn't stalled.

Probably not, I suspect the Halo film would have been just as bad

In the interest of being slightly on-topic:

I don't think the Halo movie would have been bad, based on what Neill Blomkamp did with District 9, and his Halo demo footage.

Okay, I swear the triple post was NOT intentional.

I know. That's why I couldn't stop laughing !

Two things about District 9: 1) I think it s really a great and somehow clever movie. 2) I didn't like it very much (too much a sick movie).

The same dude from District 9 was going to do Halo?  I don't know thing 1 about Halo but that would have been interesting.
