That's not me who will say the contrary...
I don't do sock accounts or usually hijack peoples threads as i have respect for the other members of this forum.
Nobody comes here at all anymore usually because of being an inclusive group and the crudeness of most posters who get their jollies on attacking the character of other members, or not respecting different kinds of thought separate from the herd mentality.
The Preservation community has all but been swallowed up by fan edits. original trilogy used to be a grand place to come and chat friendly with people and share ideas. What happened who knows?

New contender for best thread of the week.
... I think you just fell in the trap Frink. I think he was precisely speaking of that ^ kinds of interventions (I guess).
Yes, of course he's talking about me. To which I say...
...VanDerBeek.
I am only joking Frink i like your sense of humor usually, lol.
Still i was thinking about opining up a serious discourse on the community.

What are you talking about?
This is the first time in ages where we have several very high-quality preservation attempts going on at once.
There's Dark_Jedi's GOUT V3, which is shaping up to be the very best possible way to experience the 1977-1983 versions (first time EVERY audio mix will be available, and the first time the alien subtitles in ROTJ will be faithful to the theatrical subtitles).
Then there's Dark_Jedi's 1997 SE set, which will be the first time the 1997 SE has been widely available in acceptable quality on DVD (sourced from the broadcast versions, AND it'll include the 1997 5.1 mixes, AND it'll include faithful alien subtitles).
Then there's LeeThorogood's preservation of the PAL 1997 SE laserdiscs, which look damned good in their own right.
Then there's the more restoration-y "preservations," like Adywan's recent 1980 theatrical reconstruction of ESB (which is the BEST the theatrical cut of ESB will ever look, despite the one or two little, almost unnoticeable things left in from the SE's). I just watched that one last night. Amazing work.
Then there's Harmy's "Partly Despecialized Editions," inspired by Adywan's 1980 reconstruction, but in HD! That's right, the theatrical cuts (or something very close to them) ... IN HIGH DEFINITION!
So don't you dare tell me that "nobody comes here at all anymore," or "the Preservation community has all but been swallowed up by fan edits." That's a bunch of bullshit. In fact, I'd go so far as to say I've been seeing more preservations than fan edits here lately.
I meant outside of star wars of course sorry i should have been more specific.
I meant Laserdisc preservations of films in general or other types, have they gone by the wayside. Or has the forum kind of always been Star Wars centric, which i guess it has considering all my fan discs where created by the prolific Dark Jedi.
You won't find me bashing his efforts if only i could enjoy his latest efforts. Perhaps sometime i will get a better computer and grab them, at the moment i am broke and shit out of luck but thems the breaks as they say.

Mmmhh. After thought it seems indeed to have taken a new breath since half a year. Besides, you have forgotten to mention one great preservation project... Hahem...
Hem...
Let go.
The Imperial Edition another edit i can't access have no myspleen.

Let's try something.
For me, this isn't really the place for fanedits in general. There's no real quality control, review process, or distribution method like at FE.org. And I don't really have much interest in non-SW preservations.
But like CA said, the SW preservations have been fantastic of late. There's something for just about every taste, and while yes it would be fantastic to get the OOT in good quality from Lucas, I'm more than happy to watch the preservations.

By the way I appreciate that. I know I've been attacking you lately but it's only because you have been making the same comments re Lucas for a long time now. But I do find you have a lot of other interesting things to say and I would cheer more posts of that nature.
Chainsaw is a much more positive type than me. People cannot usual understand sarcasm on a post, people think i am being quite serious when in fact i am using a wry grin, cannot really see it online, lol.
Friends and Family do often tell me i have a tendency to repeat or restate things, i guess it is kind of a quirk in my makeup as a person. I will try to not annoy people too much.

Speaking of makeup your avatar makes me think that if someone would be able to take away that awful one Mark Hamill has on its face during all the RotJ movie, that would be great !
... Ooops. Wrong thread.
I'll add one more if you're talking about non-Star Wars preservations:
THX 1138. That's getting a brand-new laserdisc transfer thanks to SilverWook, though it's currently up in the air as to who is getting the raw AVI to make a DVD with.
Also, there was talk about attempting to preserve the original aspect ratio of Apocalypse Now, until it was revealed that the upcoming Blu-Ray will be in the original aspect ratio.
Although, to be fair, I wouldn't expect the non-Star Wars preservation section of this site to get nearly as much attention. I mean, this is OriginalTrilogy.Com, not FilmPreservation.Com.
Double post, ghrargh!

That nasty sneer is for Palpatine though, not a nice guy who to defy, lol.
Though i do agree the Avatar kind of is very unfriendly looking, lol.
What do you suggest Mr Rodgers, lol.

I was not speaking of your avatar, but Luke's face during the whole movie. It's especially noticeable when they are on the sail barge with Han: Hamill looks to have even makeup around the eyes.
Really never noticed it of course i have never seen the special edition DVD lately or the HD on tv.
Was this to hide the fact he had aged 3 years in between Empire and Jedi?
I know in the story it is something like 5 months after.
And i have not watched Jedi at all lately really or Empire. I find i like the first film better over all with its carefree spirit.
Plus there are no Retcons if you just watch star wars. Luke is not Vader's Son. Leia is not Luke's sister, Obi Wan is not both a jerk and a pathological liar of the first magnitude.
Too bad it also happens to be the worst transfer in the gout trilogy. As the master IP was used one to many times to strike prints, being the most popular of the three films.

AND THE THREAD GOES OFF TOPIC...

That attitude is really annoying, actually.
I have a long history of defending Sky, so I see no reason to stop now. I actually used to really enjoy his long rant posts, unfortunately, I haven't seen one of those for a long time. Now they are usually just paragraph long rants, and not half as much fun as his ongoing rants.
You justify giving Skyjedi a hard time and derailing his thread he because of his repetitiveness. What about all your threads which are essentially the same thing over and over and over?
Just sayin', seems to me he has as much right to his complaint threads as any of the rest of us have to our type threads. Chainsawash kept it on topic and productively told Sky that his complaints were invalid while giving plenty of reason why. If no one cared to read his threads, then they could just sink. No need to be a jerk just for kicks and laughs.

Ah! I didn't notice your post before, sorry!
As great as the Imperial Edition is, I'm not sure if I'd consider it a "preservation."
Then again, I'm not sure if I'd consider it a "fan edit," either.
Hell, I don't know what to call it, but it's bloody fantastic, and is just one more example of how productive this community has been of late.
I'd still love to see you do Star Wars and Jedi in the same vein, with just as much care and love, but I understand your feelings toward the scores to those films (even if I respectfully disagree).
