Thanks!

Wow Harmy,

Thank you for all the time and hard work you've put into this.  Do you mind if I have the link to download so I can enjoy them for many years to come?  Much appreciated.

I like it.  It reminds me of an LP for some reason.

Yeah, I was going for a kind of new-retro look. It also probably reminds of an LP because the AR of the BD cover is closer to square than DVD.

Awesome!  I especially like the back of ESB.  That shot of Cloud City works really well, and adds a nice dash of color.

I now watched the first two thirds of Star Wars de-specialized so I can't comment on the attack on the death star sequence but I'll comment on what I've seen.

I've not yet watched ESB or ROTJ as I have to convert the AVCHD's first. I'll preface that I was only interested in the de-specialized ESB and ROTJ but downloaded SW out of curiosity and to complete the trilogy.

The changes that you've made are well executed but unfortunately for me there still to much SE for me to enjoy the edit. I hope I don't sound critical or unappreciative because your work is really good and I knew exactly what was changed and what wasn't before I downloaded and watched it. I'm also aware this was a project for yourself and your viewing habits that you were kind enough to share with us, so good work considering the source material you have to work with.

I do have a couple of questions.

Did you use any of Adywan's Revisited (which I've not seen) in your edit. The reason I ask is I'm led to believe Adywan painstakingly removed the Ronto that walks in front of the Landspeeder at the Stormtrooper checkpoint and other such things. Did you use these shots?

Also I noticed that the blinking garbage compactor creature and tractor beam display text remain from the 2004 SE's. Is there not HD material from the '97 SE available for these shots?

And the removal of the Han and Jabba confrontation leaves a straight cut rather than the dissolve seen in the '77 theatrical. I assume there's not enough frames available on the ends of either scene to achieve the dissolve.

I should get to the other two films soon and I look forward to them.

Well, I must say I wouldn't mind less SE in my edit but those shots that I left in in Mos Eisley are god awful in GOUT so I had to kinda strike a balance between de-SEing and watchable quality.

No, I did use them for my version 1.0 but they were still just an upscale from DVD (although anamorphic) and with all due respect to Adywan, I must say I'm not a big fan of rotoscoping the changes out this way, now instead of the Ronto, a big blurry cloud starts moving over the screen. Don't get me wrong, Ady did an amazing job on these but I still prefer just cutting in enhanced GOUT.

Also I noticed that the blinking garbage compactor creature and tractor beam display text remain from the 2004 SE's. Is there not HD material from the '97 SE available for these shots?

Well, I don't mind the blinking creature but I would have liked to change to TRACTOR BEAM back to English, but I couldn't find the 97 SE of starwars anywhere. But the 97 SE is not available in HD, it is just an anamorphic TV capture.

And the removal of the Han and Jabba confrontation leaves a straight cut rather than the dissolve seen in the '77 theatrical. I assume there's not enough frames available on the ends of either scene to achieve the dissolve.

That is exactly the case. Notice that even without a transition, the shot that follows is slightly out of sync with sound because of the missing frames. Luckily the next shot is a bit longer in the SE so it was fixed rather easily after that.

I should get to the other two films soon and I look forward to them.

I hope you enjoy them :-)

Harmy,

Thank you! After fighting with my computer for a whole day, I was finally able to apply your ROTJ audio fix, and I spent about 30 minutes checking out the AVCHD. From what I've seen, outstanding! This will be THE version of the movie I watch. Thanks for doing this and for saving me the torture of Jedi Rocks!

I'll try to find time to watch the whole thing in the next week or so. But one thing I did notice: Why did you use yellow subtitles instead of white?

And did you ever make the SD version of this that you mentioned earlier in this thread? I'd love a NTSC DVD for my SD TVs. (or can I convert the AVCHD myself?)

I haven't downloaded ANH or ESB yet, since I'm not sure if they're despecialized enough for me. For ESB, it looks like you reverted back to the SE a few times (like during Lando's evacuation announcement) instead of using Adywan's Theatrical Reconstruction for those bits. I understand your feelings on the matter, and less than stellar video for those shots. But I ask you to reconsider if you decide to do 3.0 of Empire. For me, a little bit of blur is preferable to the SE.

Same thing with ANH. The CGI is too distracting for me, and I'd prefer to see more GOUT footage used. And when you decided to do 2.0, I think you should have left in some of Adywan's Revisited footage (like the imperial getting shot in the chest, the Mos Eisley stormtrooper checkpoint, etc).

Would you consider making a "test AVCHD" that has some of the more horrendous GOUT footage upscaled and integrated into the HD footage? Like the whole Mos Eisley part up until the cantina? Or the Bespin footage restored from Adywan's reconstruction? If you're open to the possibility of further changes, this test disc would be a great way for us to see how bad it would really look and if it was something that a lot of people wanted. Like I said, I'd prefer some blur now and then over the CGI of the SE, which really just takes me out of the movies.

Thanks for all your efforts!

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

I'm glad to hear you managed to make it work :-)

The yellow subs were hard coded in the source.

I won't be doing the SD version of Jedi any time soon because I'll be starting school and have other projects in progress now. But it is still on eventually...

And as far as v3.0 goes, I will probably be doing third version in a year, which will be sourced from the Blu-Rays, then I'll start thinking about further changes, for the time being I'm personally satisfied with the cuts, but like I said, I don't really mind the cloud city SE additions, unless they produce continuity errors, the dewbacks and rontos are a different story but I got rid of most of them, there is very few of them left and they're mostly just in the background but if I figure out a way of getting rid of them and make it look good, I'll do it.

And I did replace the shots of the Mos Eisley check and the imps getting shot, I just didn't use ANH:R.

Would love to see these as well. This is what brought me to this site.

A PM would be great.

Just a quick thanks to Harmy great work. As unpallatable as the SE's are these versions are a fine blend indeed.
