By who?

I live in south america (Brazil), what should I do to get one of those DVD's? Is it safe to buy it over the internet? How much would it cost to ship it over here?

All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. okay here are the official specs of the disc...
professional stuff might i add

you guys are gonna shit!!
lol

Star Wars trilogy PRE Special Edition
Menus including audio options, chapter selection, production notes
Audio Commentary included as well as 41 chapters i believe (forgot to check exact number)
Audio (im not a professional on this so i will get back to you on that one) DD perhaps?
Picture is that of the Definative Collection and get this...

anamorphic widescreen!!!
lol

oh ya wait... and for an intro you get a very cool and never before seen (by me anyway) THX Death Star trench run intro...
basically its a computer animation of the death star trench scene and when the ships are leaving to avoid the explosion the camera zooms out and its the THX logo they were navagating the whole time... which gives the tradional THX sound and then the "the audience is listening" phrase on a background of stars

no im not lying guys... this is the real deal...
however this is just ANH... havent been able to locate ROTJ yet and i should be getting ESB anyday now...

so what do you guys think of that?

I havent shit yet........

I have never bought a dvd based on the quality of the menus... So its anamorphic.... but does it have picture and sound quality that surpasses TR47s set?

- Audio Commentary
- Chapters Selection (the 72 original LD markers)
- Production Notes
- English Subtitles (the kind burned into the image for alien speak)
- NTSC Anamorphic Widescreen
- Sound is English Dolby 2.0 Surround

these are how all the DVD are based.. this is the breakdown for return of the jedi

as for TR47's im sure his are great but as for picture quality they are both taken from the same source... and i have the LD and i must say these look fabulous.. one of the best DVD rips out there!

if you guys want me to post some screenshots i have no problem doing that... just gotta tell me how because everytime i tried to take one they got all messed up... never had to take a screeny of a video before...

While the picture is far better then any VHS an official release will look better. But since an official release ain't happening I would recommend fans of the original versions buying them. My friend is planning on buying both a good bootleg set and the official DVDs. I will probably watch my friends bootlegs for kicks when he gets them but I am sticking with the official DVDs.

And who exactly is on the commentary and is it scene specific...or a fan boy cut up of existing interviews?

Also the THX clip you mention is a digital fan made piece thats been around for at least four years or more.

Chances are the video and sound quality is close to the TR47 set we all love, but if there are two soundtracks (production sound and commentary) the bitrate for this disc is probably low. Unless its a DVD9...then who knows.

Does this disc have a layer transition, Luke?

Sounds pretty good Luke; although for me sound and picture quality is more important than "extras". However since I live down here in Oz I don't imagine I'll have much choice in the end anyway, as long as the quality is fairly decent I'll be happy with whatever I can get.

This is identical to the set of four discs that I picked up from an ebay seller named "vaderharvest" (as I mentioned earlier). I haven't had the chance to compare them to TR47's discs (I have that set as well), but I am impressed with the anamorphic set. It's nice to have the menus and commentary, but I really have to examine whether or not TR47s set is superior in quality, since that is the most important thing. As promised, expect a full review of the two sets in the near future.

the commentary is Ralph McQuarrie, Dennis Muren, and Ken Ralston
and for the first opening crawl scene to about when the Star Destroyer captures the blockade runner is all scene specific... thats all i watched of it
so i guess i will let you know about that...

ahh thx for the info on the THX intro... i thought it was kinda neat to have that in there...

and i must admit im not very smart when it comes to all the tech details about the DVD... so i have no clue...

what ill do is post some screenshots of the movie... or ill just give ya a link to them k?
let me see if i can figure it out..

Hi everyone very interested in getting one of these sets. TR47s set looks great but i wont be getting it since im in the UK. So im thinking of getting one from ebay.

Has anyone seen the five star silver set on ebay.

Also does anyone know anything about these files:

Star Wars Ep 4 - A New Hope - PRE SE LD RIP
Star Wars Ep 5 - The Empire Strikes Back - PRE SE LD RIP
Star Wars Ep 6 - Return of the Jedi - PRE SE LD RIP

There all torrent files but there like 4 gig each.

chances are the torrents are not Pre SE. I have yet to find a genuine OT torrent that was not SE. I would be timid about going to ebay...most of it is trash. Be patient, perhaps someone will ship to you

I already have TR47's Star Wars original theatrical versions on DVD and just got a new set from a different person. Here's a brief(?) review:

This is a four-disc set mastered from The Definitive Collection laserdiscs. They are single layered DVD-Rs that feature:

-NTSC Anamorphic widescreen (movies only)

-Dolby 2.0 Surround Sound OR intermittent audio commentary by George Lucas, Frank Oz, Ralph McQuarrie, Dennis Muren, and Ken Ralston. It seems the audio was taken from various interviews and then spliced in at appropriate moments during the films. Not truly scene-specific, but very close.

-Alien language subtitled in English over the bottom of the film image

-Menus with chapter and audio selections (all the original LD markers)

-Production notes

-Easter eggs

-SW and TESB contain a Death Star trench-like THX trailer

The fourth DVD features ALL of the supplementary material from The Definitive Collection laserdisc set.

Also included was a CD-R containing covers (more than one version), inserts, and disc art.

The video and audio quality of SW and TESB is awesome. Compared to TR47’s discs, they look almost exactly the same except that these discs are anamorphic and have a slightly higher color level. ROTJ looks a little softer in places compared to TR47’s. This might be due to the video compression as this film sports the longest running time of the trilogy. But it still looked great on a 48 + inch widescreen TV.

The supplementary disc I received was exactly like TR47’s in format and content. I don’t know who had or produced it first, though.

Which set to choose? In that regard, I’m still up in the air. I think TR47’s discs show the truest overall audio and video quality of the films only from The Definitive Collection. They contain the original PCM audio and are non-anamorphic widescreen that is representative of those laserdiscs.

On the other hand, I think this new set best depicts the overall content of The Definitive Collection because of the production notes and the selectable audio commentary. The names of the commentators even appear on the screen when the commentary audio is selected - just like on the original laserdiscs. The bonus THX trailer and musical easter eggs were nice touches, too.

So if you want the best representation of the audio and video quality from The Definitive Collection films, pick TR47’s. If you want anamorphic widescreen and all of the bells and whistles of The Definitive Collection set with only a slight difference in video quality, then these other DVDs are the way to go. Personally, I’ll be keeping both sets as each are top-notch efforts in preserving the original theatrical versions of the trilogy on DVD.
