I have a question: in the original version of ESB at the end of the Hoth Battle, we see an AT-AT shooting down a snowspeeder, and there is a sort of airplane sound before it crashes:

But in later versions the sound is almost gone! I think it was better with the old sound because it added more chaos to the scene (better feeling). Is it possible to re-insert the sound?
The old theatrical version that is out there on the internet (I think it is from the double dvd of ESB) is not that old, it doesn't have this sound OR transparent snowspeeders so you won't find the sound there. I think the sound only exist in VHS-versions that came before the Special Editions in 1997 (Maybe on laser disc if it excist?)
This sound effect was inexplicably (accidentally, most likely) removed from the 1993 "Definitive Collection" audio remix, which is what's present on the "Theatrical Version" disc in the 2006 2-DVD set.
The effect is there in the 1980 theatrical mix, and the 1985 home video remix. I don't know if it's in the SE, because I haven't watched either version of the SE since I learned of this sound effect issue.
I'm fairly certain Ady will restore this sound effect, but I don't think he's confirmed it yet. In fact, I'm pretty sure he's not working on the sound mix until after the video's done, so he's got some time before he has to worry about this!
(Also, not to thread-hijack, but if you want a DVD of the theatrical cut with this sound intact, dark_jedi will be releasing a DVD soon that has all the audio mixes included, along with a cleaned-up, anamorphic version of the 2006 DVD video. You can learn more about this in the "Star Wars Preservations and Other Fan Projects" section of the forum.)
Thanks for the info! If there are any other sounds missing, I hope they will be re-inserted as well.
