It's actually a problem with the main element of the shot. I just can't find the exact cloud shot i need and the ones i tried cloud city looks like a cartoon. I've got the first 3 artbeats cloud fly-thru dvds but i just can't find the exact shot. It's more do do with me being a perfectionist really. I did find 1 perfect one but the sun was in the completely wrong direction :(

I'm going to put it to one side for the moment and concentrate on other things

Heard your having a premier ady? ;)

Only live near few miles away from Birmingham, im sure u dont live too far away from that?

I've got a few friends in Lichfield I could bunk at, so if the premiere was in the Birmingham area, definitely count me in :-D

Is that all? lol Who says that Cloud City doesn't rotate? As well as the Falcon changing direction to compensate for a moving floating city thus accounting for the sun being in different places.^^ I dunno I don't think anyone should be subjected to figure out the geometry of the sun in relation to Falcon, in relation to clouds, in relation to Cloud City... lol,

I think the fly thru the way you set it after the new panning shot is perfection. The things leading up to the panning shot need work like the Falcon and the cloud cars should be disrupting the clouds as they go through... However, all in all, everything from the panning shot is spectacular... Come back to it later if it's not to your standards but overall it looks crazy awesome.  Don't too hard on yourself mate but thank you for being such a perfectionist!

If you need some feedback concerning the footage post a clip on the "Secondary" communication channel I set up for the Rogues for Revisited if it's a matter of operational security. If you do work on other stuff in the mean time, may I suggest certain Hoth props may take your mind off things? ^^ teehee

I don't just add these things because they might look cool you know. Everything i do is carefully planned out. And things i have added that later on i don't think works, no matter how much time i may have worked on a shot or how good i think it may look, it will get removed. For instance adding the TIE's firing at the falcon firing the Asteroid scene. I really liked it and so did a lot of other people but it just didn't work as there was too much going on in that scene  with them added. Without them it showed just how dangerous the flight through the asteroid field was as the TIE pilots couldn't concentrate on both avoiding smashing into the asteroids and targeting and firing at the falcon at the same time. So that didn't work and it was omitted. But this isn't one of those scenes. And it isn't an animated explosion either as i would never use a CG animated explosion, only real ones as were used in the original versions?

See?  This is why the Saga is in good hands and we should trust Adywan with the edits.

I saw that footage of the firing TIE's in the Asteroid field, and while it was cool - it was a bit much, and slightly distracting exactly as Adywan decided on further review.

We are getting what the Special Editions really should have been: an ENHANCEMENT of what we already know and love, polished to perfection.

One note of thought regarding ESB - and Adywan may have already finished the Hoth battle sequence - but I will note that the sound edit for the Hoth battle in the SE sucks IMO.

My hang-up is with the sound of the chin guns on the AT-AT.  In the original VHS release, those chin gun blasts had a concordant amount of bass *whump* *whump* when firing.  The DVD releases (especially the SE) that bass is almost non-existent, even in the shot with the Scout walker with the foreground overhang of the chin guns blasting.

I don't know if you dealt with the sound issues in the Hoth battle yet Ady - but those are my thoughts nonetheless.  Some mega *whump-whump* on them chin guns would be appreciated, if you haven't done it already.

A lot of action in this thread since I last visited... and that was yesterday... ROFL...

It´s interesting that the people at LucasArts made a similar approach to a version of that scene in the intro of the game X-Wing Alliance, some ten years ago...

I just watched the Hoth escape again and it is beautiful to behold. Such momentum and excitement that the sense of relief when the transport jumps to hyperspace is palpable.

It's easily my favorite teaser clip you've posted, adywan.

Agreed.

Also, I like the Bespin flyby. Please, don't leave it out =\

Also, off topic for a bit... with regard to RotJ SE, I really hated the new CGI Jedi Rocks sequence altogether. It was the one thing that ruined the SEs most for me, above all else.

If/when you do RotJ:R, Ady, I would VERY much prefer the original theatrical Lapti Nek complete with the muppet Sy Snoodles. All of the newly added characters are superfluous and annoying at best, so to use SE video footage there even if you change the audio (as ADigitalMan has done) just doesn't cut it. Not even close.

I sat back thru this whole BmB flare-up, but since it's pretty much over, I figure I'll throw in my opinion just to close up the loose ends.

I try to consider both sides (or more) of any issue I'm confronted with where there's a difference of opinion.  I watched Ady's preview clips and dug out my DVDs to watch the original version.  I have to say I agree with Ady on this.

Honestly BmB, I tried to see it your way but I just couldn't get my head that far up my ass.

My outlook on life - we’re all on the Hindenburg anyway…no point fighting over the window seat.

Maybe it's not in the head that you should search.

BmB has a feeling about this scene, that I share in a way that as nothing to do with any intellectual reflections. I'm not wondering if it works or not actually and have not the least argument to advance. It's just that the original show the rebels putting a big finger to the Empire, and that's joyful.

Ady seems to have studied the scene and answered to something that bothered him from a logical point of view.

In the end I agree with both Ady and BmB's approaches (irregardless to the way things were said).

However I'd say an opinion can be discussed, but a feeling can't. Then, if BmB wants to stick on the GOUT, I don't know why it should bother anyone...

Also if a few of you could eat their popcorns in silence between two vociferations, perhaps they'd be more interesting. ;)

I did the same thing. I thought, "Hmm, maybe BmB has a point. I'll give him the benefit of the doubt and try to see it his way." I tried, but I just couldn't find any legitimate reason why one rebel killed in the escape dramatically alters the outcome or changes the tone of the entire battle/movie. It just doesn't, as far as I'm concerned. It's a very minor change that only heightens the emotional intensity of that scene. Until they jump to hyperspace, they are not totally safe, and I think at that moment in the film, we should feel elation, but also the sinking feeling that this victory will only further engender the wrath of the Empire. The rebels scored a victory, thanks to the ion cannon, but "they're not out of the woods yet" as they say.

It's a beautifully done sequence by adywan.

I have a question: in the original version of ESB at the end of the Hoth Battle, we see an AT-AT shooting down a snowspeeder, and there is a sort of airplane sound before it crashes:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZxAs1Q8Obxk

But in later versions the sound is almost gone! I think it was better with the old sound because it added more chaos to the scene (better feeling). Is it possible to re-insert the sound?

The old theatrical version that is out there on the internet (I think it is from the double dvd of ESB) is not that old, it doesn't have this sound OR transparent snowspeeders so you won't find the sound there. I think the sound only exist in VHS-versions that came before the Special Editions in 1997 (Maybe on laser disc if it excist?)

This sound effect was inexplicably (accidentally, most likely) removed from the 1993 "Definitive Collection" audio remix, which is what's present on the "Theatrical Version" disc in the 2006 2-DVD set.

The effect is there in the 1980 theatrical mix, and the 1985 home video remix.  I don't know if it's in the SE, because I haven't watched either version of the SE since I learned of this sound effect issue.

I'm fairly certain Ady will restore this sound effect, but I don't think he's confirmed it yet.  In fact, I'm pretty sure he's not working on the sound mix until after the video's done, so he's got some time before he has to worry about this!

(Also, not to thread-hijack, but if you want a DVD of the theatrical cut with this sound intact, dark_jedi will be releasing a DVD soon that has all the audio mixes included, along with a cleaned-up, anamorphic version of the 2006 DVD video.  You can learn more about this in the "Star Wars Preservations and Other Fan Projects" section of the forum.)

(No offence for the edit Rogue Leader)

I whole heartedly agree! Instead of leaving it still, have the damn thing rotate. It actually makes perfect sense if you think about it, why shouldn't it rotate? I for one would love to see your take on it.

And a good night sleep might bring relief the morning after.
I too think you should put Cloud City on hold and continue working on another part.
DON'T WORRY ADY, you're doing great, and we applaud every moment of it!

I'm sure you'll figure it out Ady, just do something else for a while and then get back to work!

Where did you hear this? Facebook? Twitter? ;) I don't really "follow" anyone by those means, but maybe I should. Is there a way to automatically receive "tweets" on the computer without having to just randomly check for new posts, or is that just a phone thing?
