I should've brought this up before:

When the beep goes off on the Millienium Falcon when they're losing deflector shields before they make the jump to Lighspeed and head to Alderaan (before it was destroyed), the flashing red light on the button goes on a few seconds before the beep starts.

I think you're a tad late with that one.

There's a "what could be done with ANH:R after ady" thread lying around here somewhere.

Just watched this over the weekend with my wife. We were both very impressed. It is going on my DVD shelf and the 2004 DVDs are getting packed away. I can't even imagine watching them again.

We are eagerly awaiting your ESB release. Keep up the wonderful work and may the force be with you!

I'm new to downloading fan edits, and I finally downloaded ANH:R this weekend. I had time to watch the first half or so the other day, and was absolutely blown away. I've long admired Adywan's work via YouTube and Facebook, but seeing it the way it was meant to be seen has proven that even effects I initially wasn't sold on (like the new Alderaan explosion) are awesome.

However, I may have a technical problem with my copy. Yesterday I watched the first half of the DVD on an Xbox 360. Perfect. Tonight I picked up on a PS2, and the movie was riddled with pauses every few seconds. I'm probably among the least technologically-savvy guys around here, but in my brief digging into the problem I've read that this is probably a problem with how the PS2 reads non-commercial DVDs, rather than a flaw with ANH:R itself.

Has anybody else had similar experiences?

It's probably the PS2.  I made a copy of it for my nephew and he only had a PS2 at the time and it had trouble playing it.  Stuck the same disc in a regular DVD player and it worked fine.

yeh, it's the ps2 but it could also be the media or speed it was burned at. The ps2 was a pile of crap for playing DVD's. It has a really crappy laser that had hard time reading some burned media and would eventually burn itself out. Some older cheaper DVD players also had the cheap lasers and had the same problem. But also it could be the decoder chips installed and the AC3 track. But i also had problems with a new ps2 playing official DVD's

Was it the NTSC version you were having problems with? Best thing is to try it in an ordinary DVD player

I love this fan edit very much, but am also interested in the "purist edition" of it.  However, the torrent copy I have found of the purist edition does not have any seeders (my download has stopped with 252MB remaining), and I don't know if there is a .dlc of it for download from rapidshare or elsewhere.

Can someone help me out?

Check your PMs.

It was the NTSC DVD-5. I tried a normal DVD player, and it worked flawlessly. Thanks!

This might be a stupid question,

But will you be applying these edits to the Blu-ray versions that were just announced? Or in quality, does DVD-9 = Blu-ray?

DVD-9 is nowhere close to Blu-ray, but due to the elements that Ady had to use at points, DVD is as high as ANHR is going to get unless the Originals came out in Blu-ray as well and he started completely from scratch. Which after spending over two years to do the current version, he's not keen on starting over.

ESBR, while not full Blu-ray quality, will be 720p, which is a nice compromise between quality and the ability to use elements from other sources.

Ady,

I have to say that, having downloaded both the .avi and the DVD-9 version of ANHR, it confused me at first when I watched the DVD after the .avi, and noticing the hand in the cantina instead of the flipper which was in the .avi.

Not that that I'm complaining. Either way works, really. It's just that, after I saw the hand, I came back to this thread and read the list of changes/fixes on your first post... where I read that it did indeed mention Ponda's "hoof" as you put it instead of Evazan's hand. It had me scratching my head for a while trying to figure out if I had an older version of the DVD (since the list mentions Ponda, not Evazan) until I ran a search for "Ponda" in this thread and found a post you made about it quite a way into the thread where you said you'd make both for the DVD and use whichever looked better.

What I'm trying to say is: Since the DVD versions use Evazan's hand, and your first post says Ponda's hoof/flipper, it might behoove you to edit your first post (and also perhaps the cutlist on fanedit.org) to reflect that and alleviate confusion by others in the future.

Just following up with a comment that the NTSC single layer version does not play well on a PS2 at all. It has frequent pauses during the movie making it unwatchable. It looks good on it which is a shame since it pauses so much.

The PS2 makes for a crappy DVD player. I burnt out the drove of mine once, and Sony actually suggested I not watch so many DVDs on it.

Funny I bought my PS2 for watching DVD's on it, the games were just a fringe benefit! I never had an issue with screen quality or anything like that
