What is the difference in Blu-ray codecs? I thought that these were lossless. I'm a complete Blu novice so I really don't know much of anything about these new codecs and such. I'm thinking that everyone is using DTS because it has always held more information. What should be done is simply use whichever method the film was designed for in the best possible quality. Dolby is synonymous with the OT, but that may not exactly translate to HD. None of this will likely matter since Lucasfilm has been busy at work on another new soundtrack. Why I don't know because the 97 was perfect.
Ady, did the 97 DTS really sound that much better than the Dolby mix? Not sure what I heard in theaters back then.
you see, this is my point. There isn't that much difference between DTS & Dolby tracks on Blu-Ray so i really can't see what the problem is, especially as it will be a completely new audio mix.
Yes, the DTS track did sound much better than the Dolby mix in theatres in '97. But this could well have been dependant on the theatres set up i suppose. Although i saw ANH up and done the country in '97 as i was travelling at the time of its release with work. I saw it in DTS about 6 times and Dolby about 10 (not much to do at night in a strange town). I'd say that the 2 UCI cinemas i watched it at had the worse sound, but they always have had in my local one, so there was no surprise there. But i can remember being blown away by most of the DTS showings more than the Dolby ones. There just seemed to be so much more to it. It's hard to explain really. I really wish i could get hold of a copy of the original DTS track
