Unless GL dies and someone (not Rick McCallum) steps in to take over with a clear head and actually listens to the long-time fans, nothing will change.

------------

I understand the disappointment, but I don't know how everyone didn't see this coming.

But the theatrical version of Star Wars will be released one day - it's inevitable. It could take another 20 years, but it will happen.

Look at the efforts taken to restore the original cut of Metropolis. Star Wars, ESB, and ROTJ will get this level of respect and care one day. I just hope I'm around to see it.

I agree with both of these posts. While I'm disheartened, I'm certainly not surprised that Lucas is putting the 1997/2004 editions on blu-ray. The original films will never be properly restored and released (ala Blade Runner or The Godfather) as long as Lucas is in charge. Ever. However, I agree with the previous posters that we will see them one day. And yeah, I hope I'm around to see it, too. Who knows what the movie-viewing formats will be then.

I think the #1 thing that bothers me about this is that kids will be growing up watching these altered versions. However, I think the essence of the films will stay the same... even if Boba's voice is changed and Hayden's inserted in ROTJ in a half-assed way. I hope kids will still be able to see that these were some pretty decent movies... at least, I hope so. lol.
