I actually bet that if George kicked or retired and Rick was in charge, you'd see the originals released.

He'd act like it was his idea, probably just have them restore the few minutes of each film that were replaced with SE stuff and splice it into the SE master on the cheap, stick it in a box set where you'd need to buy all 6 movies and a bunch of bonus material for like $250, give a thumbs up exclaiming "This is gonna be f*cking awesome!", and then roll around in piles of money laughing.

He's a producer. His job is to give 'em what they want as cheap as he can and to maximize profits.
