TMP is my favorite (or the least hated) of the prequels, it used to be Ep3 but having watched the PT recently (with my friend who's never seen any SW film, so I showed her the OT and she wanted to see the PT too) I realized that Ep3 is totally riddiculous in it's attepts to be deadly serious, so although it is really bad compared to the OT, Ep1 has a kind of lighthearted playfulness about it and watching it bears a kind of a childhood nostalgia for me, so it is much less painfull than the other two :-)

For the record, I've heard many other people express these thoughts, and I agree with them. TPM feels the most "Star Warsy" to me, especially in a good fanedited form.
