I have TR47's set and they're awesome, but has anyone seen the Definitive Collection DVDs that are supposedly done in anamorphic widescreen ? I know that they weren't anamorphic on the original laserdiscs, but it is possible to capture material and then author a DVD that way. Just seeking some opinions on the quality.

Hi I just joined this site. I allready have the first Star Wars Trilogy version on tape, its the last one they did on tape in Thk sound, but I will be looking for other used copies since they don't make these anymore. Are there any versions on these in Widescreen on tape that where ever made ? Does anyone know ? Also yes I am looking for the Dvd's version of these as well I almost one a bid on ebay for these Dvd's but I will try again.

All your answers could have been found by reading this entire thread. A great history of the trilogy on video can be found here. TR47's DVDs are highly reccomended. See his post above.

Hey Feline,

Yes, the set you are talking about, the THX remastered Faces Edition on VHS was available in widescreen. I have the set. It was exceptionally limited and pulled off shelves after only being available for about a month or two in the States. Comes in a wide, flat black box instead of the stacked boxes that the normal sets came packaged in.

Question: If someone in the US copies the LD onto DVD and posts it to me here in Australia, is it going to work on my DVD player? I know they have some sort of encoding to prevent you from using foreign DVD's, is there a way around that or am I worrying unnecessarily?

Most DVD burners allow you to specify the region coding for a burned disc. Just ask them to burn it for your region (I believe it's R4).

Princess Leia: I happen to like nice men.
Han Solo: I'm a nice man.

Actually, home-burned DVDs have no region coding at all unless specified by the author. These region-free DVDs will not be inhibited by the region coding of a particular player. Sending a US made DVD to Australia, however, presents a different problem. The Australian player must be able to properly convert the signal of the US DVD (NTSC) to the television standard of Australia (PAL). I have read that many TVs in countries outside the US are able to handle both television standards, though, so it may not be a problem at all.

Thanks for the info. I am pretty sure my setup allows me to choose between NTSC and PAL, but I will do more investigating before I get it done... maybe they can record it in PAL format for me.

O I am for sure going to get the Dvd's of old Star Wars. But also going to get at least one more copy of them on tape so I will have 2 on tape maybe even more who knows ? I am thinking about getting maybe another set of the Star was on Dvd also so I have 2 but first I will start with one. Will it be easy for me to make a backup copy on a Computer with a Dvd/Cd-Reader/Writer ? Since you have to order these on Ebay or whatever and they may not be easy to get in the future I was thinking about making some backup copies for just me to use in case something happens to the orignal. Or just using the backup period. I heard something about new Computer's with Dvd Burners looking for a Water Mark so you can't copy but that would not included these Dvd's would it ? I guess that would include Dvd from the Factory that where officially released.

Wow...looks like a lot of people dig this set TR47. You have been busy.

Have you been sending artwork with these discs lately?

Give me some more time on the insert for the last disc...I'm getting swamped.

Were I live the standard is not NTSC but I have some Region 1 (USA) DVDs and they play just fine. Does that mean that my player can handle also NTSC?

You are correct, Girlfriend. It's either your DVD player or your TV that is handling the conversion. If your TV is not specifically a "multi-standard" TV, then it's probably the DVD player that's doing the work.

thanx, feel relieved because i placed a bid on ebay for some bootleg dvds of the original theatrical cuts but i noticed only later that it said they were ntsc. i know that's pretty dumb, should have been more careful.

I've just received DVDs of the Non-SE OT from both TR47 and an ebay seller who goes by "vaderharvest". The latter's discs are genuinely anamorphic, so I wanted to have them both for comparison's sake. Expect a full report within the week...

I'm posting today to ask if anyone can help me find artwork for the fourth disc in the OT set, the "bonus disc" containing the supplements. TR47 does not print out artwork, but rather includs a CDR of all the necessary artwork, but there were no files for the fourth disc. The vaderharvest anamorphic discs, on the other hand, had artwork for each of the discs already printed out, but I still need disc four artwork it for my TR47 set as well.

I'm well aware of the artwork found at http://www.prillaman.net/starwarsdvd.html, but there is nothing posted for the bonus disc. Vaderharvest's artwork matched what can be found at the above site, but also included a terrific cover for the supplement disc.

And while we're at it, I could really use some inserts for my "Song of the South" DVD...

TR47's SW movies do not have any menu at all. Just pop in the disc and it goes. They do have numerous chapter mark, though. The only menu I saw was on the bonus disc. Its main menu has George Lucas, Dennis Muren, and Ben Burtt on the left with the words, "Star Wars Trilogy The Definitive Collection" below them. On the right is a Ralph McQuarrie preproduction painting from TESB under where you make the program selections.
