Shadows of the Empire

I hope this is a good place to put this.  I was just wondering if they were to announce plans to turn this game into a movie tomorrow who would you want to see in the roles (bear in mind their ages)?

The main new characters would be Dash, Xizor, Guri, and the old ones that would need recasting are Luke, Leia, and Lando (shocking to even suggest recasting I know, but still I'm sure if they took it seriously it would be good without ruining the classics).

If they were to adapt Shadows of the Empire into a film I'd prefer it to be animated - using traditional animation, of course - with the original actors from the films returning to reprise their roles.

See I don't mind the idea of animations if done properly.  However, I don't think they would ever bother bringing the original actors back for the roles because they can hire people who sound a bit like them for a lot less, which means recasting anyway.

The reason I suggested live action is because I think there are some good stories that fit within the original trilogy timeframe that they could potentially turn into a series of EU films.  For example Shadows of the Empire would make an Episode 5.5, Splinter of the Mind's Eye could be a good Episode 4.5, and I would even go as far as to say using the rough outline from The Force Unleashed could make a good Episode 3.5 (though I wouldn't be too bothered with it fitting between a prequel film because I would like to see these completely redone).  To be honest though I haven't read much else when it comes to the EU stuff but from what I have read these did strike me as having a good Original Trilogy feel to them.

The only one I can really think of a good casting for though is Charlize Theron for Guri, though I would prefer to go with someone a little younger now.  Likewise if they had been filming this around 1998 I would have said Lena Headey could make a good Leia, but again I think they would need someone a little younger now.

There IS an animated "Shadows of the Empire" in Portugese or something, and done stop motion with action figures. It wasnt half bad.

Yeah, I saw it way back when and I was surprised.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas
