STAR WARS: EP V "REVISITED EDITION"ADYWAN - 12GB 1080p MP4 VERSION AVAILABLE NOW — Page 754

It's been said before but the Walkers are clearly not ray shielded (at least not in any previous edition).

Personally I would love to see a hatch already open and some troops staggering out and firing for the Rebels to break cover and fire on giving the speeders a free reign to blow the thing and the remaining Imperial troops up (it is a large explosion).

It's the best way to keep most of the existing material and for it to make sense.

There is a similar scene in Apocalypse Now when the woman throws a hat with a grenade into a helicopter.

It lasts for a few seconds but it's very powerful stuff.

Animating some distant troops firing and adding some closer Rebels firing back is more work for Ady's already busy mission roster but if he is already filming the troops it might be worth shooting those angles and experimenting to see if it could be pulled off without disrupting the sequence too much.

When Lando tells Leia she "truly belongs with us among the clouds", right after that Han walks up to Leia, extends his elbow, which she takes.

Now, from the wide shot to the closer shot, there is a delay. She turns her head again, and her hand is still coming up in the close shot, even though the wide already showed it.

Easy to fix, and an annoyance less for us nitpickers.

OK, I have re done my AT-AT fall mini explosions. I kinda preferred my earlier more subtle version, I tried to add smoke plumes but it didnt work out great. However, think I got passed the De-interlaced problems.

Wondering which setting is correct though in sony vegas,

is it upper field first

lower field first,

or progressive scan.

PAL DV best or NTSC,

Anyhow, heres my clip....

Notice just as the AT-AT is blown to bits, i have included a subtle Shockwave.

I used the blur tool in photoshop and animated it blurring a dome as it goes boom. Very subtle so may need a few watches to notice it but it looks cool.

Shockwave is at approx.. 0:12

Ady & all, been at it again, I wasnt 100% happy with the last version (above) so i have redone it again (for the last time i think)

This time the neck explosion is more subtle and minimal, with damage only done to the neck area ( no more mini explosions throughout the belly of that steel beast!

Also, added more pronounced shockwave to the big boom.

...

(was also considering trying out putting snowtroopers in the door of an ATAT in a different shot, need more thought as to where to aquire footage of snowtroopers. Was going to use a still image but it may look phony. watch this space... :-)

ps, 005 that review was great! Shame its not in a published magazine or something, Adys efforts need more bigtime recognition.

Or instead of the "cmon" line he can say "the shields are down". thats why the speeder knows to shoot. I liked the visual presentation from yoda1138.

Makes sense.

Haha, I never understood why that Rebel said "C'mon!" As far as I can tell, he had no part in the destruction of the AT-AT.

Let's put this into context: what would soldiers in WW2 do after a german tank is successfully taken out from say a planted mine from a soldier crawling underneath?  Get out of their foxholes and expose themselves to the other tanks, or cheer, keep their cover, and then start arming themselves with grenades and planning on repeating the same successful tactic?

I see your point but it seems logic is not supposed to work here... :)

E.g. it seems pretty obvious to me that the best approach against the walkers in Hoth would be not attack them directly but blast the ground on their path to break their balance; and while the rebel shield could repel any bombardment, they still had to open it to allow the transports and scouts to free; if the imperials kept shooting at the shield just enough to prevent it from being open, the rebels would be trapped by their own protection, similar to what happen in Coruscant in one of the Thrawn books... :)

Did you notice neck is already broken when the AT-AT falls?

When we see it fall, the neck is parallel to the ground (so it can break in the desired way and not dig into the snow like a spear), which we can assume is a manouver the AT-AT drivers did to avoid dying in the crash (lifting the "cockpit"). But you can clearly see that where the neck connects to the body, the lower section is already torn apart. Nothing difficult to be fixed with some editing, I guess.

And for the running troopers... Maybe could work if they were more than just two of them? Or simply remove the running troopers and the Chief Trooper yelling? :)

He isn't done with it. He only did:

ESB

as far as I know.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I don't know if Ady has done anything about the crappy Vader hologram

Heres my take:

Is there the possibility of just replacing the shot with Vader on a viewscreen?  When you think about it, it is rather silly to have a smurf-sized Vader (or anyone) on what looks like a cigarette plug-in hologram add-on...

not to mention, is that holo (8-track) deck located near the right arm of the left AT-AT driver (as in, shouldn't there be a joystick in that area)?  The area on the right side looks like the center of the console (the white bar above and behind Vader is the same as the glowing blue bar at the driver's shoulder level below):

Now I know someone is going to say that the mini-holodeck could be located in the center, between the joysticks (by the green dot).... the problem is that you should see the other joystick on the left side on the 1st image above, not to mention Veers looks off to his left (or right side of the screen), as opposed to straight below him, which would also be underneath his periscope.

Not to also mention, but wouldn't this give Vader a skyscraper sized shot of Veers "below the belt" region?

Imagine someone coming in on Vader's conversation on that one...

(maybe you could take the scene in JEDI where Vader is holding his arm up to defend himself from Luke's attack and make a tiny hologram version to account for his "view" of Veers).

I believe i actually had a model like that when i was young (probably still at home one where). It was the hoth base and had loads of X-wings etc (about 2 inchs size wise), a transporter and the Falcon. It was given to me by my cousin who had already made all the models and painted it.

I had that kit set. it was well off scale though.

Maybe instead of trying to do another full body hologram it might make Vader look a little less wee if you saw just his head a bit like the teaser trailer(crude mockup warning):

Isnt ady already confirmed that he changed this hologram? Im not sure tho if he used his own vader suit or took footage from some 501st's member.

Taking reference what monrovile said something grander could be welcome :)

Maybe the issue with the hologram is that fundamentally it just makes Vader look like a cool little action figure, especially considering the pov. For a bad ass dark lord of the Sith to appear like that onscreen (vs Palpatine's  huge hologram which appears later) is  almost demeaning, lol.

Jaite's 3rd version with Vader appearing flat on the screen probably makes the most sense although it may not be as interesting as a hologram.

I'm sure if Ady is just refining the hologram though that will be a cool enough improvement...it's a very fast shot anyway.

For the record: I think evidence in the dreaded prequels suggests that just because you see the viewer as a little man doesn't mean that he sees you as a giant. I'm thinking of Obiwan speaking remotely to the Jedi Council, I think.

I wanted to see a clearer look at this since Monroville used a recoloured mockup in his example which proved a little misleading.  So here's a comparison using the actual current AT-AT interior details -

On close inspection, the detailing/lights seen around the 'hologram' don't seem to match anywhere on the AT-AT's console.  But as Monroville alluded to at the bottom of his post, General Veers looks to his left when speaking down at the 'hologram'....and I've always looked on that 'hologram section' as definately being located somewhere 'offscreen' to the left of the AT-AT driver on the left of the frame....even in these 2 shots below from early in the battle -

(note the differing 'shadow' on the left of the windsceen, by the way.  Is that supposed to be an 'outer' section of the AT-AT head?  It should be solid in both shots, if so)

I'll use the 'targeting section' that Veers pulls down in front of his face as a reference, and assume it's located directly 'face on' behind the middle of the 2 drivers (as glimpsed at the top of the shot below)....

....but judging from the camera angle of the interior set in the shot below, we can see that Veers does seem to be looking over to the far left of the interior when he's initially leaning forward to speak downwards at Vader's tiny 'hologram'....and it's at this point I reckon that he's behind the AT-AT driver on the left hand side in front of him....

....he then moves backwards a little into a more central position

....and pulls down the 'targeting section'....

....and can see from the camera angle that the shot is filmed from the left of the interior....where Veers was initially looking towards....

Anyway, I personally hope that adywan doesn't alter the existing tiny Vader 'hologram' too dramatically from it's present look.

One of the things I really like about the various 'holograms' throughout the saga, are their varying sizes....with this one being the smallest one....with the details/lights around it seen in 'extreme close-up' in the 'corner' of the AT-AT cockpit somewhere, and that's why Veers has to lean forward to see it properly.

And anyway, isn't this something that adywan said he'd maybe end up having to actually re-film using his own Darth Vader suit?!!  While I'd be more than happy to see the 'Dave Prowse' pose touched up a little if possible, it would certainly be a neat 'cameo' for adywan if he can match the angle and pose of the original 'hologram' here....

I'm not too sure where the right-hand AT-AT driver seems to have disappeared to in this shot though, but I guess he's just 'offscreen' at this point....

....unless he's nipped out to the same unknown place that the snowtrooper on the far right of the shot below is heading!  I thought the only way out from the cockpit would be through the round 'neck' doorway immediately behind Veers....

Guess I'll just imagine he's just gone 'offscreen' slightly and is about to 'press a button' there to open the 'round' doorway though!  :)

Lol true...

And its not the only element that is missing ;)

The shadows are coming from the wrong place too :P

But im sure ady will/already taken care of :D
