Indeed! See it that way. The shadow part of the table does all the work. Make the already boring shot a bit more aesthetic.

Some shots im testing...

Due the boring retro lighint setup of deathstar i thought to make some test renders of a more open and new BG that will match with the rest.

Plus Considering the camera stays in the same place all the time i can cheat pseudo altering the angle so no shot is the same with the previous.

You can notice the vignette effect that most of the top part of the shot/sets have. This need to be gone.

Also same set(ignore the extended bridge)

Also in the shootout sequence there are 7 same camera placed close shots and 3 long ones showing stormies .not to mention the hero ones.

i like the idea of the floor is more lighted and glowing like we see it when vader interrogates leia.

Now our heroes are further from the danger rather are only 10 meters from them.

Tried to make more uniform walls with less hard shadows.

Same..

The idea here was to move tarkin in the other side so he has "space" to look at his right.

Also moved for a more dramatic angle.

Brighten up the ship so now it looks a bit more realrather a bad lighted prop

Also note that this shot is the same when teh pod escapes. Only that the SD element is slight bigger.

here is a test of extending the shot/hangar so the camera can pan a bit. The idea is to simulate the awesome painting of mc quarrie and brake that cheap set piece of ANH

Awesome work and thought put into there angel. Im always excited to see pictures from you, but in a way it makes me sad when they dont get used or put into motion *sniffs*

Huhu!!! Mr J you should start an edit :D thanks again :D

Also here what i meant. These are not a sequence frames but like i mention how many times the camera is placed on the same spot.

Altering the shots by adding something for variation is a thing ;)

See how lightning changes between shots and its not only smoke that affects it ;)

vaderios & Jaite.......excellent work. Seeing the pics come to life was very interesting. Jaite you are clearly very talented and should definitely think about putting out an edit. Bravo!

If I had any criticism at all it would be to maybe leave a hint more of blue to the backgrounds. Also anything that is in color such as hair & flesh-tones, sabers, the droids etc....shouldn't really be desaturated too much. But I think you've pretty much got a handle on that part as well.

I'm in love with the "floating" chairs. The old versions looks too grounded in our reality. Like they'd just been bought in Ikea prior to shooting. Awesome work, Angel! :D

Also, they're not necessarily "floating". The supports could easily be underneath the table in shadow. It just makes them seem more futuristic that they're not reliant on our conventional and primitive support methods :)

I do love the floating chairs... I do not love the black and whitish approach.  And as far as the sets and lighting being "boring and 70's" well having grown up in the boring 70's I prefer that look than the overprocessed CGIishness of most modern films.

In fact, isn't that one of the many problems with the Prequels to begin with?

As always Angel, amazing job on these Mock-ups. So amazing that I know what my next edit is gonna be for sure, lol.

Then I can finally give Luke his fathers red lightsaber. (Sheilds up)

Get rid of those wheels on those chairs

Fixed! Thanks for the idea! It feels more spacey now.

Nice!

It's a logical extension of the sort of technology we see in the PT (in the Senate almost everything floats around) you could argue that's a bad thing but if done in a subtle way (and it looks subtle in this mockup) why not have the Empire give floaty chairs to their top brass?

I don't like the washed out colours on the humans so much (sure they may not see that much sun anymore but you can go too far with this sort of thing).

I agree you can't beat the colour mix that Ady corrected in his edit, but the concepts that Angel's creating with their desaturated colours breath new life into the images, he turns the frames into works of art, they make you ponder, they make you unsure if he has added any of the design, the technique he uses lets you notice elements that you would not otherwise stop and look at.

Heres the scene with his floating chairs

I never noticed the wheels on the chairs, so I didn't notice the floating chairs. Nicely done! Subtle, but effective.

Next thing i want to mess is removing this @sshole general that reports to tarkin with a hologram of him.(Credit to Bingo)

I have an idea for one or two new shots, showing elevators going up and down (when han chewie and luke is inside it) going down revealing the vastness of the station's corridors.

Mr J. i really hope for a team of editors and artists combined for an attempt for an edit :D

Your shift of the chairs gives Tarkin a bit more room in frame to position a holographic report onto the table top if you want it.

The real trick would be to make sure the hologram is pointing the right way and to position it with Tarkin's eyeline.

Thats the point Bingo ;)

Also added/enhanced Leia's cell so it has the red tint that had when it was interrogated by vader

And the General is gone ;)

Tarkin actually looks as evil as he acts in this one. Great job.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

I like that tarkin is looking more CG than real.

I think it has a very ROTS look, while keeping the original look in tact. You mixed the best of both worlds.

Another thing I would like to say. I think that your updated look, gives the films a familiar look that I saw in the Dark Forces I/II and Shadows Of The Empire games.

Of course, I am not saying they look old and pixelated, I am saying it has that vast coldness to it, that was in the games.

You have to make the Cantina look updated now my friend. Make it look badass, but still star warsy. No more moon men, I wanna see some f&%#d up looking aliens.
