I'm a little ticked/glad (is that possible?) to hear you say that.  I've only played the first scene and the start of the second in L4D2 (and the demo level) and I have to say that I wasn't blown away in any way by L4D2 when compared to L4D1.

You said it in your post, but I it- I do like the variation in the finales so far... but with all of their variation, they seem to be less epic than the big finales of L4D1.

...

But if I had to choose the 4 in L4D versus the 4 new ones in L4D2, I think I'd stick with the original ones.

I thought you said you bought L4D2? I am surprised to hear you have as of yet still only played the demo.

Yes, I did buy it.  You must have read my post wrong, I said the levels I'd played so far were all of the 1st, the beginning of the 2nd (of the retail game) and the level that was in the demo.  MY ticked/glad sentiment works like this: One of the reasons I hunkered down and bought L4D2 was on your recommendation that it was, and I loosely quote from my faulty memory, "So much better."  So I'm a little upset to see you reverse your opinion here.  But maybe I'm just remembering wrong... but then I'm glad to see that opinion... because I didn't really see a HUGE improvement in 2.  At least, not yet.  The levels I played (with the new survivors, the new special infected, and the new weapons) most certainly could have been DLC to the old game.

We need to play sometime. I temporarily have a lot more free time now.

Alright, let's talk turkey.  Is Friday or Saturday a good night for everybody who wants in on some L4D2?

<snip> The L4D2 finales were just as hard and just as big of a deal, but somehow the first ones felt really climactic, and the second ones not so much.

The only finale I've played is the gas can one.  I didn't think it was nearly as hard as the L4D1 finales... I concentrated on filling the tank and my 3 compadres fought the z's.  I ran all over the stairs finding gas cans and throwing them down to the 1st floor.  And then filled the tank pretty quickly.  I think we'd nailed it in about 3 minutes flat or so... not the 10-15 minutes (at least it feels that long) that the 'survival' focused finales were.

When you say the 4 in L4D o versus the 4 new ones, I have to assume you either mean levels or survivors. There are actually five levels in L4D2, so I imagine you mean survivor characters.

I actually meant the Special Infected.  I thought 'SIs' was maybe common lingo for them, but I also didn't think MOD2 was a good nick for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.  Shows what I know.  I think the 4 original Special Infected are superior to the 4 new ones, but seeing how the new ones are just added to the original 4, I guess it's alright.

If that is what you meant, I really agree. There is no character I really care that much for in L4D2, and none of them seem likely to be the sort to survive the zombie apocalypse.

In L4D1 we have:

a muscular biker

an old war veteran

a officer worker who happens to be a survival/outdoors enthusiast

and a college age video game fanatic

All the above seem likely enough to survive by their own means long enough to run into other survivors to team up with.

In L4D2 we have:

a dirt stupid mechanic

an overweight football coach

a news reporter

and a con man

I guess the con man is likely enough, the news reporter is believable but unlikely, and the other two just make no sense at all. Especially the mechanic. The group just doesn't work as well to me as the classic group.

However, I really agree with this too.  I like the original characters more.  Your analysis is spot on.
