::: HELP NEEDED :::

SWUE04 is on hold. Party because i’ve run out of harddrive space, but also because hopefully with this set out in the wild, someone will come forward with a recording of the 1993 Sci-Fi Channel Carrie Fisher hosted segments. Would like to add them to SWUE04.

Here’s an article about the Carrie Fisher broadcast:

Question: Assumed this final television broadcast would have been done from previous airings.  Don't know if the Star Wars movies were ever in Widescreen on any of the pay cable services like HBO.  Noticed what look like rips in two consecutive frames:

So am wondering, since production of the Special Edition was happening, could this widescreen broadcast have been a new capture of the raw movies before going through the preservation work done for the Special Editions?

Answer: Darth Mallwalker points out that these marks have been around since the early home laser discs.

Well someone told about his manoeuvre at the battle of Endor, and bingo-bango, Emperor Lando.

PAL THX laserdiscs like (Moth3r & Citizen used) show those rips.
GOUT source had 'em too -- until the DVNR process tried to hide 'em. Look closely at GOUT and you can see artifacts

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Moth3r's pre-ANH bootleg telecine also have those same marks.

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Update 2010.07.21: The video for the main 3 features with the new SW only commercial breaks (less commercials, more interviews & other then initially expected) has been more or less finalized.  Added over 100 SW television broadcasts throughout the movies to give a flavor of what was going down.  For the most part each movie has material from the 3 years after the films release.  Found some phun stuff, my favorite being an interview with Anthony Daniels where he fumbles that he's not sure his character, 3po, will be in the SW Sequels.  That clip begins the ESB disc.

:::HELP NEEDED:::

I've been unable to locate and coordinate getting a copy of the Carrie Fisher hosted segments of the Sci-Fi channel broadcast.  If you have a copy or know of someone who might be able to provide them, it would make this set more informative.  Tips or leads appreciated.  thanks

Ordeal?

You aren't selling this very well, lol.

Don't have a marketing department, sorry.  but I did say a 'Star Wars Ordeal.'  So when watched on Ord Mantell your Ultimate Experience which is Forever...One Last Time might seem like 4 hours instead of 4.5!   ...or was that 5 hours instead of 4.5...

I find marketing generally annoying and disingenuous. The title, for this project, comes from three old SW marketing tag lines which when combined reflect an inherent irregularity confusion.  So in this project, i've highlighted the SW marketing campaign by showing the commercials and behind the scenes material and how they related to the evolution of the franchise.  It's sad, but when you watch the actor interviews over the span of these three discs, you see their interest wain.  But yet the phenomenon was growing conversely.  This growth is shown in the continuous Premiering Star Wars had, where over the course of 5 years, the movie premiered in the theaters, theatrical re-releases, on pay tv, cable tv, network tv, public tv, international broadcasts, and eventually home video... which has it's own confusing history which shows up in the ESB and ROTJ discs with various LaserDisc promos and commercials before the videocassette shows up.  This set was created to provide an introduction to the media of the SW phenomenon in those formative years.

And what better way then to surround the abandoned Ultimate Experience, which %20 is Foreveringly bringing it back ...one last time, in the detritus of those day.

The purpose of this set is to remember all the SWTV from the first 10 years of the phenomenon.

What would you like to see included?

Just remembered George's Japanese camera commercial, which would be good to see again.  Have been trying to find toy/trailer commercials from around the world, found a few from the Lili Ledy company which aren't reuses of the Kenner commercials.  Also surprised to find an advert bumper for the original Making Of SW special broadcast.

Here's a look at the working files:

While suggestions for material to be added to the commercial breaks come in, need to start working on the Introduction and Menu parts of the discs.

Doing an edit/sound check and found a quote which could make a good promotional tool:

Those rip marks have to be on the negative itself if its on the 1977 telecine and the 1985 IP (plus, possibly the pre-85 home video IP). Did this appear on the SE? I was going to say they might have replaced it with a different source, but if it was there in 1977 then there probably isn't an undamaged source since its the o-neg. They might have scanned and painted it out but I don't think they were doing that for the 1997 release.

Haha, sweet idea! :)

Thanks, it's been an idea which crops up from time to time on the forums, and these Billie Dee Williams segments make for a decent reason to test out the idea.  Menus are coming along.

On those two frame glitch/rips, checked some more versions and they're on everything most releases until the SE.  Interesting Puggo's 16mm had them, but in the 8mm they cut the scene almost the frame before they would have showed up.

**EDIT**

Checked the CED Preservation and they're not there.

Being that this is the first interior shot of the movie and there's a whole lotta shaking going on, it's easy to understand why this was never fixed.

Here's a possible explanation for those film rips.

From "The Sounds of Star Wars" book:

PG.53

008 Hatch Sizzle and Explosion

Quote: "At one point while Burtt was working in the basement of Park Way, he was handed the color work print.  At that time, Lucasfilm had only one work print of Star Wars, so the utmost care was used when handling it.  "I thought, 'This is really valuable; my future's at stake here," says Burtt.  "So I threaded the work print up on my Movieola very carefully.  I checked all the rollers and sprockets to make sure it was okay.  Then I pressed Go - and ripped the films to shreads!  Oh, boy.  So I spliced it back together and tried to pretend it didn't happen.  But all the screenings from then on always had this jumpy spot right when the stormtroopers come bursting through the door of the Blockade Runner."

Show'd this preservation to an individual and they immediately went out and burned their 70mm prints.  This ordeal, I mean set, is that awesome.

I think that clip looks great as-is! Great editing. It has enough of the old VHS look along with the channel changing to get the feeling I imagine you are going for.
