Saw Apocalypse Now Redux for the first time tonight (I seem to be watching a lot of bleak of late) glad I watched it at home and not in a cinema, I imagine it works better that way for that cut.

I remember seeing the original cut in a real flea pit, now an Art House Cinema, (stripped pine seed cakes, the works) but back then it was the sort of place where H-list rock stars would drop pills and make a scene in the balcony seats and I'm glad that was my first experience of the film. All the Doors fans were singing The End like it was The Rocky Horror Picture Show or something (someone should have brought a pinata for the appropriately gruesome animal chopping scene).

Every time I see the film I can't forget the irony of the BBC cutting Kurtz's late entry F-Bomb when it was in a line about the contextual absurdity of censorship.

I like both cuts. I know a lot of people feel the extra material adds unnecessary length to the film but pfff at least the original still exists (George).
