Saw Howl's Moving Castle. The Animation was amazing as expected, the characters were memorable and there were a lot of nice moments but the story devolved into a hot mess by the end. Not Miyazaki's best work, still recommended.
Also, just saw Despicable Me. Very Funny animated film with a zany Loony Tunes approach to humor and a cute and touching if very cliche story.
I haven't been watching many films recently (I've been concentrating mostly on ancient television shows including the wonderfully daft Department S).
The last film I saw was the Ian Dury bio-pic Sex And Drugs And Rock And Roll.
A really evocative performance by Andy Serkis and some strong back-up.
It's a real warts and all depiction but it does skip a huge chunk of his life and his work.
No mention of his work for Cancer and AIDS charities or his support for UNICEF, his acting career is largely brushed aside.
However it's a complex film about a complex life and it's well worth a look but it's not easy viewing (not that it should be).

I recently saw Toy Story 3. It was satisfying. The 3d wasn't annoying, at least to me, the emphasys was on the story, which, for what it was, was well written. I mean, 1st one came out in 1995, 2nd one came out in 1999, this one this year, 2010. With all these years apart you'd think they'd have time to screw up, like a certain George we all know. But not Pixar.
The only thing that left me a bit sad is that I didn't have my glasses, as they were broken and under repair, so I had to watch a really blurry movie. But this didn't stop the 3d effect from doing its job, wasn't expecting that!
I had a colleague from university with me, and he had never seen the other 2 before, so I helped him catch up, we saw them together before this third one. Even though he had not grown up with the Toy Story series, he liked the fist one (we couldn't finish the second one but I guess he liked it) and he was certainly moved, like me, by Toy Story 3.
So, hats off to Pixar!
I cried during the last 15 minutes of Toy Story 3. I was 6 when the first one came out, so I grew up with the characters, and my brother is getting ready to go to college just like Andy. It definitely struck a few emotional chords with me.
I wept like a baby at the end of Peter Jackson's King Kong just like I did when I watched the original as a small child.
There's something special about being a middle aged man in packed cinema crying your eyeballs out with everyone pointing and laughing their heads off.
It really can't be beat kids.
I watched Ghosts of Girlfriends past. It had some pretty funny moments. I would recommend it just for Michael Douglas' performance. All in all, it was a good Christmas film, and I like a good Christmas movie in the hotter part of the year.

I watched the original Invasion of the Body Snatchers last night. Not a great movie, but decent and I'd probably watch it again.

Yeah... Inception is the goods. Put down what you're doing (unless you're already watching Prestige, Gaffer) and go see it. It'll be a great injustice if this movie doesn't make a ton of money.

I had the same thought Ash had- Let someone else do Batman if Nolan can do Inception. I love Batman Begins and the Dark Knight, but I'd trade 10 of them for Inception.

From the ads, the movie looks weird to me.
I just watched The Other Man starring Liam Neeson and Antonio Banderas. I would rate it -1000/5. It had potential to be a really good movie, but it just never picks up. It was supposed to be a thriller, but there were no thrills to be found. All I can say is, it was a major disappointment.

It's weird because there's never been a movie quite like it before. Which can be intimidating, but honestly, it's not that hard to follow. Sure, it's a puzzle, but if you're paying attention, you won't be lost. Part of the fun of the movie is trying to put the puzzle together as you watch it.
That's why I want to see it again so badly - the first time is all about the cerebral aspect of it, while (I felt) I missed out on a lot of the emotional aspect. I want to see it again to get that, since I already have the puzzle put together in my mind - this time I get to see the puzzle, instead of the pieces.

Reminds me of people laughing in Vertigo and leaving in droves during Solaris. (Tarkovsky's film, and I bet people did the same during the remake) How in the hell can people laugh during the nightmare sequence in Vertigo?!?!? Let alone in a theater with the hauntingly beautiful restoration. Crying in a theater is a wonderful elevating experience...unless someone sees you. Anyway-Last Year at Marienbad.

Very good movie. Liked pretty much everything about it, though the washed out colors were inconsistent at times. Was surprised to see so many actors from Harry Potter in it [Sirius Black, Dumbledore (new), and Madame Maxine], especially all of them playing Americans.
