The V2 "Color-Corrected" DVD-9 release of Star Wars: Attack of the Federation is now available. :)

Will there be DVD5 versions of the MK2 versions soonish?

I'm prepared to wait as long as necessary but I wanted to know if they would be relatively soon because I'm sending a package of fan-edits to my cousin and I wanted to send him the best version of yours I could burn (I'm in a bit of a financial dip at the moment so I can't get away with buying a duel layer burner at the moment).

If not I will send him the Mk1 versions.

Bingo, if I remember correctly, someone else on FE.org created the v1 DVD-5 from JasonN's DVD-9.

I haven't downloaded the single layer versions yet (I've watched the DL versions on my computer) are they not up to Jason's standards because that would be pain?

I don't know for sure how JN feels about them.

I seem to recall they are not as sharp looking as the DVD-9's.  But I had some playback issues with the DVD-9's (major issues on my PC, minor on my standalone player) so I had to use the DVD-5's for the cutlists.  The problem seemed to be bitrate related, which has been corrected on the v2 DVD-9 of AOTF.  It is supposed to be fixed for the other DVD-9's too, once those are available.

Incidentally I will have an updated cutlist up for v2 of AOTF at some point in the near future.  There are a few very minor changes to the actual edit.

(reposted from FE.org)

This edit is easily my favorite of EP 1.  The video, audio, and editing quality are all top notch.  The big changes, such as obscuring the identity of Sidious, removing the battle droid dialogue, deleting the underwater sub sequences, changing the introduction of Anakin to Qui-Gon, and removing the podrace announcers all work great.  But it's the little changes that really made me smile.

Removing Nute's double "what" at the beginning of the film.  Changing Jar Jar's line from "help would be hot" to "help would be nice."  Removing Padme's strange "we are brave, your highness" line in the hangar.  Changing Wald's line to Greedo after his fight with Anakin, foreshadowing Greedo's fate.  Getting rid of Anakin's double "very, very dangerous."  Cutting Wald and Kitster failing badly on a high five at the end of the podrace.  Getting rid of Anakin's weird "Wait, sir, I'm tired" line before Maul attacks.  Removing the stupid looking/acting aliens in the Senate (especially the E.T.'s),  Losing Obi-Wan's silly "there's an even bigger danger" line when they are planning the final attack.  Deleting Padme's nonsensical "they win this round" line.

I have seen many of these changes in one or two edits, but no one has hit such a high percentage of the removals I wanted in one edit.  And a few (such as the Senate changes) I don't recall seeing done by anyone else.

This was so close to perfect, though I had a few minor complaints, mostly involving a few additional Jar-Jar and Anakin lines I would have liked to see deleted, as well as some of the Jar-Jar action in the final battle.  But overall, this is a fantastic edit, and the one I always recommend (or give) to others.

9/10

I was not the individual who created the DVD-5 versions, so I have no idea as to their quality. My personal recommendation is to download the V2 DVD-9, as this is the latest release with proper color-correction (to remove the magenta hue of TPM DVD video), corrected video AR, and a few additional edits/improvements to the fanedit.

Progress on the V2 DVD of The Black Knight Rises edit has hit a snag and I've had to slow down a bit on finishing it (which really is just rotoscoping a few additonal scenes of the Anakin/Dooku fight to recolor Dooku's lightsaber to be purple). I'll let everyone know when it's been finalized.

Are you also working on TOTR v2?

Yes, but I want to release both TOTR and TBKR together (as I'll need to send them both to another person for upload).

so are the links on fanedit.info for the most up to date and color-corrected versions?

I just watched AOTF, and loved it! JasonN did some outstanding editing.  I'm Looking forward to the others and just want to make sure I download the most up to date versions available.

Can you trust him?  No, but he has no love for the Empire, I can tell you that.

Not yet - I'm hoping to get the V2 DVDs of TOTR and TBKR fully finalized sometime next week (after I get back home from vacation).

Also, I only did color correction to the V2 DVD of AOTF (to removed the magenta hue that was present from the DVD release of EP1), but not on my edits of EP2 and EP3 - the V2 DVDs are done to give those edits a bit better video quality and corrected film aspect ratios, along with a few new edits and cuts to EP3.

Finally watched TOTR & TBKR.  These edits are simply outstanding!  Thanks, JasonN.  If adywan is the master of Episode IV, then JasonN is certainly the master of fixing the prequel trilogy.  It is not only more thoroughly enjoyable now, but makes much more logical sense in its own right, as well as in connection to the OT.

There's probably too much to write about here as far as my likes/dislikes, so I'll save it for a review sometime on fanedit, but, basically I really enjoyed this version of the PT, and fully agree with almost every change that was made. (minor quibbles being simply inevitable in the realm of fan-edits).

And I was initially hesitant about the second two films, because I personally didn't mind seeing Yoda duel (which I gather JasonN despises).  But after having watched the films, I will admit, it's the right choice and it keeps the focus on Anakin where the prequels should belong anyway.

My favorite stuff: the blue crawl, all of Episode I, Jango's voice modulator (that was amazing, it actually kind of sounds like original Boba Fett), Count Dooku not being a Sith (love this plot element), radically better love story development between Anakin and Padme, and most all of Episode III.

My wish list: repaint the color of that yellow speeder Anakin uses to chase Zam (black, perhaps).  Also, repaint Yoda's lightsaber back to green. jk :) [By the by, I believe Windu's lightsaber is purple because Samuel L. Jackson specifically asked Lucas if he could have a purple one.]

I've heard that too, I seem to remember something about he wanted to be able to watch himself fight when he watches the battle on geonosis or something like that.

Does it matter?

In these edits the colour is part of a ranking system like the belts in martial arts (You could argue that Obi-Wan isn't a permanent council member which is why some of the council still have blue sabers).

No, it doesn't matter at all for the purpose of these edits.  I was just letting people know why there was only one purple lightsaber in the whole galaxy in the original prequel trilogy.

And I was merely joking about changing Yoda's back to green, as JasonN previously said in this thread that he was sick of the lightsaber discussion.  Besides, the ranking system makes sense, and I've gotten used to seeing purple for Yoda, Mace, and Count Dooku now.

Im gonna watch Shadows of the Old Republic and Attack of the Federation, as soon as i get home! (the v2)

I noticed there are DVD-9 versions of TOTR and TBKR (on fanedit website), are these v2 also?

You can never go home again, but i guess you can shop there.

Would a megaupload link be possible for any future v2 release of TOTR and/or TBKR?  (And any other fan-edits for that matter).

It's just so much faster than a free user rapidshare link where you have to keep waiting on a connection.

Hoping to have the V2 discs fully finalized sometime early next week, btw.

As a sidenote, here's a new cut of the Geonosis droid factory sequence that I'm toying with, which cuts out the entire business of Padme getting trapped in a stone pot and escaping before molten metal pours on her (now she gets caught by the Geonosian who attacks her before the cut sequence):

The V2 of Twilight of the Republic is done and I'm burning the DVD-9 right now. The changes to the V2 are, in no particular order:

- lowered Zam's voice when she's speaking to Jango before attempting to kill Padme as she sleeps
(yeah, just shout out that you tried to hit a Senator's ship with a bomb....)

- removed R4's "Wah wah wah" noise after Obi-Wan comments on the activity of Federation ships on Geonisis

- cut Padme's lines of ""See those columns of steam straight ahead?"& "They're exhaust vents of some type" when she and Anakin arrive on Geonosis

- cut the entire sequence of Padme getting trapped in the giant stone cup in the Geonosis droid factory
(yeah, I ended up cutting it just as I did in the preview video I just posted - while true that there's no sort of resolution to her struggling with the Geonosian, I think most viewers will assume that she gets captured by him, plus with the removal of the "R2-D2 flying rescue" sequence this subplot of her getting trapped in a stone cup for molten metal goes nowhere and serves absolutely no purpose at all)

- cut the shot of Padme swinging the chain at the Nexu and the Nexu's reaction shots (now it just climbs up the column and swipes her back)

- added back in several shots of Anakin, Obi-Wan, and Padme on the clone attack carrier firing missiles at the Frederation star ships (just before Yoda arrives at the command center)

- changed a few words to the subtitles of Poggle the Lesser in the Geonosian command center (same meaning, just improving the grammar and readability of his speech)

- after Poggle the Lesser says that Dooku and the other Separatists should flee at once, I added in an altered line of Dooku stating "I will never allow the Republic to get away with such treachery."
