Rocky. the original, the classic, the best.
Godfather II and III. Hadn't seen 3 in many years and it is nowhere near as bad as I remembered. If only Pacino got meaty stuff like this more often.

My only real problem with III is that it kinda nullifies the message of I and II (that power corrupts regardless of how good a person you were before you had that power).
It would have been so much better if Michael had cut Anthony's hand off, tortured Mary and had frozen Vincent into a block of ice.
Then in Godfather 4 he could have thrown the new Pope down a well.

Not saying anything like that, I'm just saying that III shouldn't exist at all. II was a perfect ending. III is a fine film (minus Sofia Coppola's acting), I just find it unnecessary.
To switch gears completely, I watched Daybreakers today. I actually liked it quite a bit. It was an interesting concept, and I loved the look and feel of the vampires-have-won world.
The ending was a little odd - it could have used another 10 minutes or so for a proper resolution, I feel, but I guess they wanted to leave the future between humans and vampires ambiguous, which makes sense.
It reminded me a lot of Repo Men, which I also liked (though I much preferred Daybreakers).
We watched 27 Dresses last night because my wife got it from the library. I remembered getting it from Netflix 2 years ago, but then sending it back unwatched- though I didn't remember why. After watching (somehow all of it) I now know that someone or someones must have told my wife and me, "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE PLACED IN FRONT OF THIS MOVIE!"
But we must have forgotten that advice. It's nice to see James Marsden finally get the girl (notice that he's pretty much "the other guy" in every movie he's in?) but man, this movie sucks. The dialogue is horrible, the jokes are unfunny, the acting is pretty much bad... but those things are easy to do wrong... The thing that really got to me is how unnecessarily "edgy" the whole thing is. Lots of hard PG-13 cursing, including the dreaded "mofo" bomb. Lots of "edgy sexual references. So, of course, it came to my surprise that the movie was written and directed by women. I know that my wife wants romantic comedies to be full of sailor talk and crude innuendo. (<---SARCASM)
It had the extremely predictable "and now they've broken up" moment 2/3s of the way into the movie. I turned to my wife and said, "I guess we've officially entered act 3."
Please see my revival of the Acts thread for more on that.
And I'm done talking about it.

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.
I'm guessing this led to your revival of the "Act Break" thread.

Thanks for reminding me of the last thing I had to say about the movie. I've edited the post to include that precious thought.

how did you guess?
Is the Rocky'a'thon a 4th of July thing, or is the Americana-ness of it unrelated?

I still have yet to see Rocky Balboa. Any good? I enjoyed the first two, thought three and four were entertaining yet forgettable, and thought five was just plain bad.
You are looking for the "Last Movie Not Seen" Thread.
;-)
I liked Rocky Balboa well enough. It was odd- just like all of the Rocky movies or the Jaws movies- it exceeds pretty well at taking a movie you've already seen, changing almost nothing, and making you feel like it's an all new movie.

I got the whole set on blu-ray as a birthday present.
First time I ever saw this. Great film with powerful script and strong acting.
Gritty and violent. I loved it! Early 70's films set in New York City have such a wonderful look to them. You could feel the urban decay. Nothing beats on-location NYC. Films unsuccessfully try, and try again to recreate that setting on back lots and re-dressing other urban locations around the world to look like NYC. But nothing is like the Big Apple, and you can always spot the phony.

Saw the new DC Animated feature, Under the Red Hood. I don't think it's out yet, but you can find it in the usual places. Maybe I've just got him on the mind, but all I could think about the Red Hood was that he acted like Deadpool. Is he like this in the comics too, or are they playing off the recent popularity of crazy characters?
