We watched 27 Dresses last night because my wife got it from the library. I remembered getting it from Netflix 2 years ago, but then sending it back unwatched- though I didn't remember why. After watching (somehow all of it) I now know that someone or someones must have told my wife and me, "UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES ALLOW YOURSELF TO BE PLACED IN FRONT OF THIS MOVIE!"
But we must have forgotten that advice. It's nice to see James Marsden finally get the girl (notice that he's pretty much "the other guy" in every movie he's in?) but man, this movie sucks. The dialogue is horrible, the jokes are unfunny, the acting is pretty much bad... but those things are easy to do wrong... The thing that really got to me is how unnecessarily "edgy" the whole thing is. Lots of hard PG-13 cursing, including the dreaded "mofo" bomb. Lots of "edgy sexual references. So, of course, it came to my surprise that the movie was written and directed by women. I know that my wife wants romantic comedies to be full of sailor talk and crude innuendo. (<---SARCASM)
It had the extremely predictable "and now they've broken up" moment 2/3s of the way into the movie. I turned to my wife and said, "I guess we've officially entered act 3."
Please see my revival of the Acts thread for more on that.
And I'm done talking about it.
