Did I hear someone say "green laser debate"?

Yoda: I like where you're going with this (though I can deal with the original "as-is"), especially the "R-type" styled AT-AT lasers powering up in order to take out the shield generator (maybe could also add a Vermithrax style audio powering up sound as well as the tips of the guns glowing hotter as the energy builds up).  The AT-AT "shields" collapsing was also nice in how quick and subtle it was (enough to give the impression needed).

How would it look to show lasers reflecting/bouncing off the AT-AT as well (not just absorbing into the legs and joints)?

The "build up" charge on the ATAT guns is actually present, but when played back its too quick to see. I may add more frames to the beginning to lengthen the charge, need a cool sound wav too.

I like the idea of the blast bouncing off the legs too. I just had the legs absorb it because the oringinal does, but i may try that too.

vaderinos ... I too like the "retro" look of the original lasers, but, I can get that in any copy of the movie.

Besides its just a muckabout test. Something to show ADY incase he fancies doing something similar. Its my own preference and isn't gonna please everybody.

Ady, fantastic coloring! The picture quality is great, it's almost as thrilling as seeing TESB for the first time. As was suggested on the previous page, the speeders could benefit from shadows in some shots. I really like sall detail, such as the burnt flesh as Solo opens the tauntaun.

 Yoda, good ideas, esp. the AT-AT full power blast. It actually seems to be building up and flashing as it fires, nice!

Monroville  -  hmmm.....well i'll just hook up a sleep timer to automatically defrost me after 2 years - incase im forgotten...

Yoda1138 - cool stuff! I like lasers! liked the AT-AT falling over it now looks like internal explosions going off as it hits the ground!

Made me realise how big this thing is and that a fall like that would surely do a lot of damage! 

 

I must learn how to edit movies and music and add effects! ill check out the technical threads :)

A long, long time ago in this very forum, there was a debate that lasted all of a few posts where it was suggested by somebody to possibly change the AT-AT lasers to green (since all of the other Imp heavy weapons were green).  I don't remember how that turned out...

And cutnshut: you know how these things turn out... your timer will freeze, the person who was supposed to watch over the timer will forget (or freeze) and you'll be waking up beside Ashley Williams with a surprised look on your face.

Thanks for your kind comments. I appreciate that you said the mini explosions made the AT-AT look big and heavy, so I got tinkering again and have re-rotoscoped that fall clip.......

I am pretty sure Ady decided to keep the Imperial Walkers' laserblasts red.

I like how he changed the laserblasts of the Ion Cannon to a white/blue. Perhaps he will change the blast of the one Rebel gun, though as we see from the footage, it has no effect on the AT-AT. Unless Ady intends to show it having "some" effect?

Possible solution to the Speeders blasting the supposedly "armor too strong for blasters" falled AT-AT...

Why not have them drop two proton torpedoes onto it?

Explosion is a result of it hitting the sweet spot. Just a suggestion.

Has Ady talked about how he's going to address this?

If it's not too hard to do (perhaps superimpose TIE lasers over the red AT-AT lasers), could be a fun bonus/alternate Hoth battle clip. I always thought it was a neat idea, if nothing more. (so did Lucasfilm at first, based on that German trailer)

I remember that adywan didn't give an answer to this one when it was brought up ages ago, but I'm still curious to know if he's wanting to keep the 'rainbow'-coloured lasers shown here, or not.  I was never keen on them myself, as I didn't think they looked as convincing as the other lasers throughout the movie.  I always think the example shown at the top looks especially false.

Whether totally GREENISH or ORANGEY (or some other colour), I'd just prefer to see a less 'multi'-coloured laser overall.  As long as they were a different colour to the PINKISH ones of the AT-AT/Snowpeeder lasers, then they'll still make for an interesting contrast.

Also, I always felt that there should have been a noticeable 'scorch mark' shown on the AT-AT leg after it was hit by the 'multi'-coloured laser.

Considering the time it takes to power up those cannons, and the fact that they look more like projectiles, they might not even be lasers.

Maybe they too are some sort of plasma/ion projectile, which would explain the rainbow colours since it would change as the projectile heats up.

Though I personally wouldn't mind if they were made into regular red laserbolts :)

Perhaps, but I wouldn't mind seeing them made to look like a kind of mini ION-Cannon, discharging the same kind of 'electrical' effect that adywan made with the main ION Cannon.

If adywan made these lasers a REDDISH colour as you suggest, then I guess that the 'electrical' effect would help to differentuate them from all the other similarly-coloured lasers in the battle.  But I'd still rather a totally different colour for them I'd have to say.  I'll be interested to know what adywan intends to do here, if he's willing to reveal his decision at the moment.

adywan, this behind-the-scenes miniature shot from 'Building Empire' made me wonder if a hint of the 'casing' debris will be added to the crater's rim in the big 'floating' shot below?  I know you've removed the SE 'flames', but I've always thought that we should still see a bit of the blackened debris sticking up in the 'floating' shot, to tie-in better with the 'emerging' shot before it -

And here are a couple of shots of the Probe Droid from the DVD menus too, as I thought it was nicely done -
