I took my time to see the presentation of the bad moments you pointed. At the end i was stunted from the new sfx that you added rather what you cut :P The shot that transformed the jet sound to TIE sound was superb!

Im really intrigued to say you can try a music less version or the music is slight in lower levels. Strategically leveled sfx can lead the eye and the ear to the point of interest.

What else do you plan/already cuted? Will be only edited wise fanedit, or more radical like Bob Garcia is doing?

Thanks ! I am very glad that you noticing it.
I got this idea after watching the 8 min preview of Reign of the Darkside (thanks to Bob Garcia ! ).

It's a very good idea to associate the TIE fighter sound to this wings stance. So I decided to improve it and create a sound which fits perfectly.

Here is a new video dedicated to my sound design on the Space Battle :

My edit is a radical cut. For example I don't like Grievious so he has a much smaller role on my cut. I also wanted to make him more darker and mysterious: no laughing, no cough, no stupide dialogue ...no more : "ah ah ah  !! I am really villain !! ah ah ah !! "  (wtf...) - I don't like his voice, so I changed it. You will see this and more on my next video.

In short : cut, cut and cut without regrets...to make things the more serious and dark as possible. Is this not the way it should be ? ^^

Sounds Good Mr Norris :D

In some parts the same sfx it might be a bit repeated.

Its amazing how the cockpit sound addition adds so much as a retro effect :D

Post more clips :D

Yes but we must consider the fact that the excerpts on this video are one after the other. I'll watch the entire sequence again to see if it is obvious.

In addition to the "retro feeling" the cockpit sound give a sensation of speed

Looks (or sounds, rather) really good!  The first video really got your points across and was really funny, which always helps.  In terms of the edit itself, I love the new sounds.  Only nitpick is that at the end of the second clip specifically about the new sound effects, the dialogue is really hard to understand.

If that's the full landing sequence it's much too choppy (sometimes less is more but not always).

Maybe it's just edited highlights because that's what it looks like from here.

Your new Grievous voice is less stupid sounding but also less easy to hear (hopefully something you will resolve in later versions). It might make sense to make him sound a bit more like Vader (they are both cyborgs and both warlords/enforcers).

I do hope you will lose the surfer dude Fed (he's almost as annoying as the battle droids you've managed to mostly silence).

As I suggested with other cuts if you could fix Palpatine's chair so it doesn't turn it would make more story sense.

We are meant to believe that Palpatine is Dooku's prisoner so giving him a grandstand view does let the cat out of the bag a bit too early.

Thank you for your comment !

Yes, you're right, things go a little to fast on my landing cut. I have to add a sequence (R2 or Anakin and his belt...)

I am still working on Grievous voice and yes I want to make it close to Vader (it's not easy because the voice is already treated and to much audio processing "kill" the sound)

I've never been bothered by this moving chair because it's makes sense that, even as prisonner, Dooku let him contemplate the battle (somewhat like the Emperor did with Luke in ROTJ ) If not, why is he in a great room, on this kind of chair and in front of a large bay window, rather than in a cell or something else ?

He is not a simple prisoner, he is the Chancelor, it's not absurd to think that he be granted the privilege to contemplate the battle on a confortable chair.

You can see on this close up the control panel of the chair. He can have full access to the chair's command and still be a credible prisoner ; )

what do you mean by "the surfer dude Fed" ?

Author

I believe "Surfer Dude Fed" is the Nemoidian who says "two Jedi have landed..." etc....he's got a lame voice. REAL lame.

Anyway! I like the voice! It's at least a start...one thing I wonder, though, is if, forgetting about the stupid coughing, you keep the ragged breathing as the echo of Vader's trademark sound effect...I could see it either still being stupid or increasing the creepiness. But, hey, just throwing it out there!

Surfer Dude Fed?

LOL.

Wish I had put that in my cutlists.

lol it's true ( " all battery fire ! fire !! ")

I forgot him but I will fix it.

Part 3 : Duel with Dooku and escape

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mKSWqQ_ZEOM

Unable to bear the most part of what happens in the Invisible Hand after the duel with Dooku (elevator, ray shield, stupid dialog etc) the most difficult was to terminate it as soon as possible.

WHOA!

Your first several videos spent a lot of time point pointing out errors, but didn't offer a lot of fixes. With that last video, you've finally gotten into the meat of things. There were a few minor issues I had (people getting knocked down without showing how), but overall this was superb.

I'm officially stoked to see this edit!

I'm curious to see how you handle the Palpatine vs. Mace fight and Anakin's turn.

You know of the rebellion against the Empire?

The Cutter - I really appreciate your job, but cutting so much errors simply doesn't work. Everything goes to quickly and no one besides the fans would understand whats going on.

I know this movie is not possible to repair without some extra footage, but cutting all errors, bad cgi, poor dialogue etc. doesn't help it. ROTS is so bad, that if you want to cut all bad things, you would have to cut half of the movie. Try to slow the pace of the action - even if you must leave some errors in. Anyway, congrats for your effort. It was very nice to hear the force theme before the fight between Dooku, Obi-Wan and Anakin. More such things please!

Thank you very much Erikstormtrooper and Jacobss for your comment !

Jacobbs, it's true that things go quickly but I don't think it's incomprehensible (even for neophyte ).As Erikstormtrooper said, I think this is a minor problem.

Only fan are interested by this kind of cut, that's why it's not really important if, sometime,  things go a little to fast.

It's a choice : let bad stuff or have a cut more "dynamic" with few minor problems. In my case, it's just impossible : the bad stuff when I see it, make me instantly "leave the movie" (specialy stupid joke, too bad cgi and "teen love")

I do not pretend make a perfectly cut (as you say, it's impossible without new material). I just want to enjoy the movie from the beginning to the end without having to slam my head on the wall every minutes...and this implies, in my case, to make some sacrifices.

My Attack of the clones cut length 1h20min ^^ I prefer a short movie than a long with stupid things.

but I understand perfectly your point of view ! which is quite relevant

Erikstormtrooper, my Palpatine vs. Mace fight and Anakin's turn cutting is really short...but IMO it's much better. You will see it soon !

"He is the traitor !!  no he is the traitor !! no !! it's him !! Anakin no !! it's him...no ! no ! no !  no !  no !  no ! You will die !! "

wtf...

The Cutter- Thanks for your answer. I cannot wait to see what you have prepared for us.

Anyway, there are also many things which did bother me in this movie the whole time. Three of them are:

The conversation between Anakin and Palpatine, where comes to reveal who Palpatine really is. When Anakin says to him "You are a Sith Lord!", Palpatine answer is "I know what has been troubling you. Listen to me." When I heard this first time I was like - WTF? No logic at all. Besides it was poorly delivered by both actors. It was like there where talking about weather, not about the identity of a long searched Sith Lord.

Next one is when Anakin on Mustafar used the force grip on Padme. His expression was laughable. Obi-Wan's too. He is choking Padme and Obi-Wan is simply slow going down and saying so boring "LET.... HER.... GO...." . I got the feeling that Ewan McGregor simply didn't care.  I have waited many years for this conversation between Obi-Wan and Anakin before the fight, and it was so screwed.... I can't believe how much. And it's so boring!

I hope you will also cut this pathetic "only a sith deals in absolutes" - haha.

What do you think about them?

And what about music? Are you planing something extra? It would be cool if would replace some moments with someting emotional, because I think John Williams didn't put so much effort in this movie, like it was with original trilogy.

Did you see this? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HOHPhrNaE58

Something like that would be great!

Good music, intense.. I will see what I can do here.

I agree with you but the sequences you mention are really hard to cut... of course, no more : "only a sith deals in absolutes" in my cut !

and yes additionnal music and new music are an important part of my edit, as you can see in this new video :

Part 4 Padme's revelation / Grievous new voice test

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rh01WVvCafQ

Romantic sequences are almost all messed because they are too "teen love" and not "old shool" as they should have been.

Star Wars movies should never looks like a teen movie...especially not the "legendary" story about Anakin and Padme.

Good work Chuck :)

Like everything you've done here, feels much more like a star wars movie - I like the quick cuts during the space battle, you've cut all the parts I used to cringe at and re-arranged whats left into something that really works.

for example, seeing the shot of the cruisers broadsiding each other, The droid capitol ship being raked with fire all along its side and then the bridge shattering and Grievious being blasted out into space and fleeing in the escape pod... genius!

while inter-mingling this stuff with the jedi vs dooku duel is great, love it.

The nemoidians line - "The Jedi are in the main hanger bay!" - is still there tho - the way its spoken makes me think SURFER DUDE??!! or Bill and Ted... if you could remove that dialogue and use beeps or something? - "whats wrong with your face dude??!!" as redlettermedia might say :) his eyes and mouth are covered - so maybe replace his line with a droids beeps or something.. thats the only bit that still made me cringe tho!

The part where Anakin has his lightsabres crossed at Dooku's neck - the pause still seems to long - after all the excitement of the battle and the duel and the frenzy in Anakin's facial expressions - once he disarms Dooku he goes back into teenager mode from Attack of the Clones .... the chancellor is urging him on, but poor anakin is suddenly torn as what to do. And Dooku looks all teary eye'd back and forth from Anakin and Palpatine....ugh he's an evil villain!

Okay, i get why Lucas did this..but it just ruins the climax of the duel....

It would be nice to see the moment Anakin gets his blades at Dooku's neck he doesnt hesitate and just cuts his head off...... and cut all of Palpatines lines to so he is now just watching while Anakin slays an unarmed opponent! much more un-jedi like! and the fact that he doesnt hesitate would make it more powerfull. And as a bonus we get thro the scene quicker. (I mean that less is more)

The Padme and Anakin scene actually brought a lump to my throat the way you edited it where as before i was just sitting in the corner cringing during this scene - the music you chose is much more effective as well.

So to sum up and sorry for the long post - Most Impressive! :)

I have seen edits where this is the case and know what you're saying, but from this version I think a bit more thought has gone into it - things arent just cut, they are now edited back in a way which removes the need for the lame jokes, unecessary dialogue or bad effects. Which I felt totally works. I thought the editing was more along the lines of the original movies, which do have quick scenes and use intercut footage. Id rather show this version of the movie to my friends for the first time and then show them the original ofterwards so they can see how much better the movie is for the re-editing.

I like the "making of" type content in the clips that explains the reasons for the edits, all good stuff as far as im concerned and would love to see more of this.

This is great! I really love the cuted anie(one more arrow)-padme's conv. Its really straight forward and like you pointed no more teen movies :D I love the music that you chose there!

As for the GG new music i can say this works to a point.. after that sounds a bit off while the chorus march of the general is cut/entered so violently to the the scene. You may want to use a chorus from the movie 300 or that style.

Any chance to use additional music from other JW works? Even you want to achieve a more retro/star wars feeling you must consider the orchestra that was used back then. Different cues and melodies. More dramatic etc.

Cant wait to see more

I understand your distaste at the whispered dialogue, but I'm concerned cutting out the enforced concealment of their relationship will take away from Anakin's developing frustration with the Jedi....it's a thread taken up again during the couple's last confrontation "don't you see? we don't have to run away anymore"

Grievous sounds fantastic here! Just sayin'....also, on the topic of the soundtrack, have you considered exploring classical music outside of Johnny Williams, but still within his stylistic range? It may help lessen the familiarity sorta "hey...this music is from that other movie..."

Thank you very much ! Yes if the need arises. The good thing about using the old Star Wars OST is that these musics make the connection between the two trilogy, stay in familiar atmosphere...which is one of the major problem.

I think that the enforced concealment is implied from the begining. Anyway I can't let Anakin do this kind of whisper ! : )
