eliminating instant playback would take away evidence of bad officiating.  At least for the crowd watching in the stands.

and what good would that serve?  They'd be better off fixing the bad officiating.

Agreed.  Do it in a way that doesn't interfere with the game, but do it.  With the sophistication of the modern viewer, sports are going to look more and more that they have something to hide if there wasn't instant replay.  I am trying to give FIFA the benefit of the doubt, but they seem to fix their games.  And by not being open to any review policies seems to cement this idea.
