RE: the purist editions exclusion from fanedit.org.  The wording there isn't the best.  The reason it was not included on the website is that it was decided it was too close to the original.  Fanedit.org is a big site, and is certainly watched by Lucasfilm as well as others.  We have received letters and threats in the past.  At the current time, the staff felt it was a little too risky to post the purist edition.  It wasn't that we felt it "wasn't an edit" - it was just a risk we were unwilling to take at the time.  The wording may seem "illogical" but why it was actually done is certainly not.

I agree that anything done to a film constitutes an edit.  But - In the past, edits that were deemed too close to the original (i.e., minor audio cuts where video was left completely in tact, syncs, color correction only, etc.) were not permitted on the website only for the safety of fanedit.org.  Yes, it's a fine line to walk, and some argue that the fact that FE posts any links at all is asking for trouble.  But, we found a system that seemed to work.  As I said, the studios know we exist, and you can bet they are keeping an eye on us.  We have gotten letters in the past, and FE will probably get them in the future. The trick was to avoid that as best we can while still providing the art and edits to the fans.

As Frink said, there is a new staff now, and maybe they feel differently.
