If I'm lucky, my wife lets me have 2 pictures of Lincoln and maybe a picture of Washington as well.

I liked John Adams well enough, but I like to believe that John Adams was more like he was portrayed in 1776, even thought I know that's probably not true.

I never knew you were a fan of 1776, Xhonzi. I it one of my favorites. Before your time, I used John Adams as my avatar here. I watch it every 4th of July. I've been doing so for years and will do so again tomorrow night. Last night, I watched the Patriot. Tonight, I will watch my town's fireworks and then I will watch, Gettysburg. The 3rd of July is an important in American history as well. Some time this week I'll get to watching the John Adams mini-series. Heck, maybe I'll even watch a movie with Will Smith about an alien invasion.

Xhonzi, I have to bet you are not exactly a fan of Dickinson's song, Cool Cool Considerate Men. ; )

1776, hmm? I seem to recall some handsome, talented young videographer tackled that subject once upon a time.

My 4th of July tradition is little different. As has been my tradition for as long as I can remember, I watch Jaws every 4th. It's sitting on the desk in front of me as I type this, got it out a few days ago in preparation. Around noon, I'll draw the curtains in the viewing room, settle in with a cold drink, and go back to the theater setting of my youth - and one of my top ten movies.....

"You yell Barracuda - everybody says Huh?... What?
You yell Shark - and we've got a panic on our hands on the 4th of July."

Later this evening I'll raise a glass and toast our independence and all of the people who made it possible.

Happy 4th.

You wound me to the quick, sir! We have had many a conversation on these very boards regarding our mutual adoration of 1776. I sent you a PM way back in the day when I first saw your John Adams avatar. Perhaps you have forgotten, but I never have.

I don't really identify with the so-called "right winged" or "conservative" men of the time, so it doesn't really bother me. It's not my favourite song in the piece by a long shot... so I guess it's true to say I'm not a fan of it. Can you say that you are a fan of it either?

The drifting of definitions such as "progressive", "liberal", "conservative", "democrat" etc. would be interesting to take to the Politics thread. I don't think many modern day conservatives identify with those guys. But I bet both left wing and right wing camps claim the likes of Adams, Jefferson, Franklin, etc...

huh, I have no memory you sending me a PM on the John Adams avatar. I apologize that I have forgotten our conversations on 1776. Unfortunately all of the PMs I made before my hiatus are gone, so I can't go back and look at them.

I agree the drifting definitions of those political terms would be interesting to discuss. However, I think I am done with discussing politics on here.

I watched the History channel yesterday. I admired my neighbors fireworks from my back porch. All in all, I would say it was decent. I used to have badass 4ths.
