Well a later workprint has been given to  Rogue Leader & the 2nd unit and to 005 today but its still very rough. I don't want anyone pestering these people for any information about the workprint because they won't tell you anything as i trust them 100% i won't be sending out a finished beta version though to anyone. If i miss a few little things then so be it.

And why not? After all, George Lucas missed a few little things ...

That sounds more like a challenge than anything else. ;)

P.S. Glad you dug it, Monro. It gets updated often. (though it's getting harder for all of us to find good material. There are pretty girls in professionally made costumes doing photo shoots galore, but we all appreciate the people who have made their own costumes and wear them in public, whether they look good or bad. (I usually prefer the bad, cuz I like to laugh.)

i just got sony vegas and i'm trying to take out audio to put in different sounds, music, etc.

basically, how do you remove the voice from a track, but not the music, and vice versa?

1. Wrong thread.
2. Such things are not possible.

Well, technically, you can't, rcb.  The technique used is essentially using different tracks from the 5.1 audio mix.  Dialogue is usually mainly contained within the center channel, but there is some slight bleed over into the others.  So, if you want to retain the dialogue, dump the other surround tracks, or if you just want music / sfx, do the opposite.

Of course you are correct, but this still made me laugh considering the recent cosplay discussion.

One thing that is possibly impossible to fix (at least I can't think of a way other than building a new carbonite block and filming it) is Han's shirt change from going into the chamber and coming out frozen (it's an error that wasn't fixed in ROTJ either).

I'm actually working on a way of fixing that :)

How about the binder on his arms?  He doesn't have it when he gets thawed out in RotJ.  It's probably easier to fix now than in RotJ: Revisted.  ;)

Does sound like a challenge... lol I guess I'll engage then. ^^

Here's the thing... does Lucas care about this anymore? No...

Did he even care all too much back then? Not really because ESB was created to essentially fund Skywalker Ranch and recoup from his divorce. Lucas actually hates what Gary Kurtz did to ESB and considers ESB a failure to this day. So Lucas missing a few things... a sense of plot/story, pacing, timing, detail, continuity and most importantly recognition to people who help make Star Wars the legend it is etc... So as much as everyone say Lucas is a visionary and what not he very much has flaws as well that time has brought to light. Cos over the decades he has surrounded himself with yes-men who just does what he says unchallenged or otherwise they're totally fired. That's not a creative collaborative effort, it's one's man's psychosis and ego run rampant.

You do have a point that people should preview ESB Revisited and offer input before finalization. However, unfortunately, it has to be limited due to operational security. If the things in this cut were to leak unfounded rumors could spread as well as misinformation concerning what will be in the final cut and surprises for the audience would be spoiled completely. Ady has entrusted a rough cut to select people but with any operation of this magnitude this information is entrusted to those who have offered the most in the way of help and mutual trust. So in that sense there's a balance...

I know it's easy for me to say since I have seen the rough cut. However, had I not seen it, I would also recognize the need to limit such showings cos it will turn into a furball with Ady receiving messages every second concerning every lil detail (kinda like these message boards already... lol). Look at this message board, it exceeds 730 pages and small mole hill type things have a tendency to erupt into crazy volcanoes debates.

The thing we all have to remember is that unlike Lucas, Ady does care deeply, enough to learn these skills from scratch to do the impossible concerning ANH:R and now ESB:R (which WILL surpass ANH, just trust me on that one...). He has also listened very politely to ALL of us. If people disagree then this entire website is dedicated to fan edits so feel free to make your own. Ady does not intend to and will not run the OT into the ground with unfounded eccentricity and ego. He just wants to make something great, that much better (again... just trust me on that one) for all of us and himself.

Most importantly, he's not doing this for any profit what so ever. So patience... for this man is NOT being paid for any of this and is doing something that has restored a lot of people's faith in the Star Wars Universe and that is something we all do care deeply about.

Lastly those of us who have seen the cut have submitted details and suggestions as well. All of which, Ady has responded to with reason and calm discussion (I'm pretty sure I haven't been fired for disagreeing =P). Once upon a time I was someone who would said Lucas can do no wrong with unquestionable faith... and now I'm in the middle of something LFL probably doesn't smile upon because Ady has just shown LFL that someone in his apartment with a comp can show up freaking ILM and GL himself!

I've fought more fan politics than anyone should in their entire lives and as much as this is only a movie it's now the people we're doing this for. There's no ego, no profit, no hidden agendas... it's just making something amazing for the love of doing so. There's tons more I wanna say but I'm gonna stop now. I think Ady appreciates everyone's passion and exicment for this project and it's well deserved. Have faith everyone, the impossible is about to be done once again. ^^ May the Force be with us all.

Hmm.. how is that possible?

Again ady vs ILM... makes no sense..

ILM develops and creates effects/visuals. do you think that is wise they will stay in one place and fix a movie called star wars or care to make it "right"? what is right anyways?

Aaaanyways...

back to awesome ESB

All very well, Ming, but if you check the facts it doesn't actually pan out that way. Lucas' divorce was in 1983, around the same time as Return of the Jedi came out, and it was ROTJ that suffered because of his personal issues and lack of caring (and firing of Gary Kurtz, who was among other things of the kill-off-Han camp along with Lawrence Kasdan, who still co-wrote the thing, and Harrison Ford). I never got the impression that he didn't like the sense of plotting and pacing and character development we got in ESB: if he didn't want a softer, darker, more character-driven film than Star Wars, he wouldn't have hired Irvin Kershner to direct it! He certainly appreciates ESB and has said that the structure of ROTS on some levels deliberately mirrors it: start with a big battle and escape, characters split up, have character moments, lightsabre duel at the climax and the good guys get away by the skin of their teeth and vow to regroup at the finalé.

I've always wondered what it is about ESB and Gary Kurtz's contributions to the series that GL dislikes so much.

Etc.

Lucas likes his money. He likes anything that increases the profile of the Star Wars saga, which is why he effectively rubber-stamps any old story for EU, and why Family Guy and Robot Chicken were allowed to do their Star Wars spoofs.

What I was referring to was little things like recolouring the whole of SW/ANH so that it's not blue-tinted, R2D2's blue getting knocked out by the Chromakey/CSO effects, Han shooting first being an important part of his character development and not something eligible for retconning ...

Rogue Leader, I have no doubt in my mind that ESB:R will be far superior to ANH:R.

To Ming: What we all have to never forget is that if it wasn't for Lucas with all his flaws and errors included, none of this would matter. Lately your comments have been towards bashing Lucas (in some instances rightly so) and how much of a failure his movie making skills were.

Remember back in the day when you couldn't wait to pop in the VHS and watch Star Wars including all its problems? Yes there are things that need to be changed and redone but come on, it's Star Wars! We fell in love with this great movie with every flaw under the sun and we couldn't get enough of it. I still can't.

Adywan deserves much respect and love for what he has done and will do in the future to this series of great movies. It's just that I've noticed that this thread is starting to turn into a Lucas bashing thread at times.

Part of the charm and draw of Star Wars was some of the obvious flubs and errors that are being fixed now. If anything I think that Adywan is enhancing the movies not changing them and I love that about the edits. Lucas didnt have the know how or the means to make the changes that are being done today. I think he was away to long from the series when he started to make the changes that have come to plague the OT now. Somewhere along the road Lucas did lose his way in the prequels but my comments and opinions are for the OT.

I for one love what Lucas has done, is he the greatest writer? No. Is he the most actor friendly director? No, but he did create something that we have all come to love and enjoy so let's take a step back and remember why we are here.

  Because we love Star Wars...

I am in no way trying to disrespect or bash you so please dont take it that way.

Just so you know (wink wink) saying your not gloating about seeing the rough cut comes off as gloating. Are we jealous...you bet cha' but please dont insult us peasants who are doing without that privilege by saying it's no big deal cause it is. ;-P

One more note: To say that Lucas doesn't care is unfair, he has created and continues to allow others to create all sorts of Star Wars projects that he could turn around and ban people from doing anytime he wanted. Maybe it's not that he doesnt care, maybe it's that he has lived with this series for a better part of 34 years, that's a long time to try and keep a creative mind to.

If anything I find his contributions to the series and all it's spin-offs a strong commitment to the Star Wars universe and should be acknowleged not insulted. I love that Lucas ALLOWS us to use HIS property to do what we want and have our own versions of HIS vision. If I was Lucas and read all of the bashing and insulting comments here and other places that use my property I might be inclined to say."you know what? since I did such a crappy job (based on certain comments) maybe I should just deny these people to use my property without some bucks in my wallet." Lucas doesn't make a dime on the free creative properties of Star Wars that he allows us to use for our own purposes. We should be thanking him not dogging him.

just my opinion.

I'll just say that Lucas did have good, sometimes great ideas, but he needed the collaborative forum to hone and craft those ideas into what became Star Wars.  As a filmmaker myself, I tell everyone I work with that I haven't thought of every great idea in the world, and I welcome collaborative ideas and alternate viewpoints to create the best film possible.  Yes, I have a very strong and vivid vision of what I want, but if someone can offer up ideas that can make it better, I am all for it.  Somewhere along the way, George Lucas forgot that ideal.

I'm here because I want Star Wars to be loveable. I never really got in to it that much, but Adywan has changed that for me.

I for one am not jealous. I'd rather see Adywan's final production without seeing any workprints. I don't have anything like the knowledge or attention to detail required to point out errors to Ady.

One more note: To say that Lucas doesn't care is unfair, he has created and continues to allow others to create all sorts of Star Wars projects that he could turn around and ban people from doing anytime he wanted. Or maybe he just loves making money from the licensing deals.

If anything I find his contributions to the series and all it's spin-offs a strong commitment to the Star Wars universe and should be acknowleged not insulted.

I still feel perfectly justified in insulting Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones, and the 2004 DVD releases of the OT. Prequel Annekin at the end of ROTJ? Come on, that's going way too far.

If I was Lucas and read all of the bashing and insulting comments here and other places that use my property I might be inclined to say."you know what? since I did such a crappy job (based on certain comments) maybe I should just deny these people to use my property without some bucks in my wallet." If there's one thing Lucas understands it's how to maintain a fanbase. I think he'd endorse projects like Adywan's Revisited and other fanedits because they increase the profile of the Star Wars brand, and as a result increase the fanbase. And more fans almost always equals greater profits from merchandise.

That makes me think of a hypothetical situation: if we had never had the SEs or the PT or anything else that has tarnished our memories, and only had awesome versions of the OOT...would Star Wars fanediting even exist? If someone made their own SE, would they be viewed as Lucas is now, tampering with things that could've been left alone? (even if it was just fixing continuity errors or blemishes, and nothing else)

I appreciate that you also brought out the fact that Lucas is letting people mess with his movies. They even encouraged people to put stuff on YouTube before! That is pretty great and shouldn't be forgotten among all the nonsense. ;)

Well, Lucasfilm officially sponsors an annual Star Wars fan film awards.  That says plenty about how open George is about the fandom.

That is something to think about...some of the changes are trying to fix what the SE's have tarnished or have brought to the forefront...good observation and insight.

Thanks for the positive feedback. i was hoping I didnt get to badly ripped... :-), but I did get a box of band-aids for just such an occasion.
