I loved it for the "Makin' My Dreams Come True" segment, and the Expectation vs Reality segment.  The rest of the movie can go hang for all I care.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

The "expectation vs. reality" part was brilliant indeed.

I'll see that and I'll raise you "Becket."

(doing a Peter O'Toole/Henry II marathon. Gonna do "Lion in Winter" tommorrow!)

I've been meaning to see Becket.   As for doing a Peter O'Toole/Henry II marathon,  I believe there are only 2 movies in which Peter O'Toole played Henry II.   I can't consider watching 2 movies to be a marathon.   You need at least 3 or 4 movies to make a marathon.    Are there other movies about Henry II.?

Witchfinder General paints Oliver with more warts, great film too if not a little depressing.

Witchfinder General?  I've never heard of it.   I'm putting this on my must-watch list.

It was released in America under the dumb name The Conquerer Worm to try to and link it to the Roger Corman 's Poe cycle because of Vincent Price having a starring role (it's one of his best performances totally understated, against type and utterly creepy) but it's very, very grim viewing. It will stay with you long after watching it in a way that other films of that type and that era do not.

I don't know if it has been released yet on BBC Audio but Radio 4 did a very good play based on the making of the film called Vincent Price and The Horror of The English Blood Beast.

Witchfinder General is a must. Vincent has one of his best roles in this very dark little movie. The lack of a big budget really adds to the overall creepiness. It predates the look and feel of films like Straw Dogs and Clockwork. The new DVD is finally uncut.

Next on my week of movies I have on my hard drive but have never seen before - Dances with Wolves.

Now not only have I never seen Dances with Wolves in any form, the only version I had to watch was the 4-hour extended cut (compared to the 3-hour theatrical).  I was a bit wary going into an extended cut without ever seeing the theatrical, but I have to say ...

The film was pretty damned amazing.  In fact, in the entire 4 hours, there's only one scene I know I would cut (that is, the soldiers leaving the fort before Dunbar arrives there - I'd remove it to add a sense of mystery as to why the fort was abandoned), and I have no idea if it's still there in the theatrical cut or not.  But I can't imagine what else could be cut out of the film.  It's that good.

The cinematography is simply stunning, as well.  The shots of the frontier make me wish I'd lived in a time when I could have been one of the first to explore it anew.  And that buffalo hunt ... holy hell was that intense and amazing.

Saw The Killers yesterday.  As I love That '70s Show, I love Ashton Kutcher.  A good mix of fun and action, but very heavy on the "jittercam" and awkward close-up shots during the action.  I guess a 7/10.

I then went home and watched Forrest Gump.  I much prefer the movie to the book, significantly changed for the better.  A 9/10.  Throughout the whole movie, though, I hated Jenny.  What a clueless bitch.

Watched Legion. I actually enjoyed it. Nothing really shocking about it, but it had it's cool moments.

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

Really? - even the trailers make it look crap IMO. Might take a look.

Harry Brown. Finally got here in the States! Great Caine performance-best film he's had since Quiet American. Great for lovers of Get Carter (like me!), but overall it really doesn't go much of anywhere. It is nice and gritty though-plus it destroys Gran Torino. 6/10

Then I was dragged into Babies. Weirdest double feature ever. It works for about the first 15-20 minutes and then just gets monotonous. All we do is stare at babies. That's it. There are no Rebels there or any dialogue. 4/10

Watched Clue for the umpteenth time. "One plus two plus one plus one".

I still haven't seen Dances With Wolves. Now I really want to.

Clue is criminally underrated.

I'm hoping to go on a movie binge (for me) this weekend.  I've got the following on my list:

9
Resident Evil
Quarantine
The Descent
Sunshine

Haven't seen Quarantine, but I have seen the original, [REC], which is a Spanish movie made one year before Quarantine was made.  And based on the previews for Quarantine I saw, it seems to be a shot-for-shot English remake of [REC].

I will say that [REC] is pretty fantastic, and it actually scared the living hell out of me, especially the ending.  I highly recommend it.  Quarantine I'm not so sure about.

Sunshine is amazing, though, definitely keep that one on your list.

Don't worry, I saw [REC] first, and it was awesome.  I'm lowering my expectations for Quarantine.

I'd definitely recommend seeing [REC] first but Quarantine has some interesting  differences including a few sequences which could possibly be added to [REC] to make an even better feature (the original is the better picture though, the ending of the remake is nowhere near as creepy).

Sunshine is a good call, it would make a lovely double bill with Moon.

The trailers made it look like it was going to be a comedy when I saw them, but it actually had its moments. It has a lot of religious stuff, but it doesn't bash you on the head with it like most do. Basically God is angry, that is it.

I just watched Willow for the first time this weekend. It was awesome. Val Kilmer was a wonder to behold, unlike most of the other roles I've seen him in...

"The Crow"

Great flick.

Brandon Lee had such charisma. If not for his tragic death I think he could have made a lot of great movies.

Alex Proyas went from this, to the even MORE amazing "Dark City" and then somehow made "I Robot," which was the most pedestrian by-the-numbers sci-fi film I've seen in years. Not looking forward to his "Dracula" with the dude from "Avatar."

Watched "The Prestige" for the 43rd time last night. Everytime I watch that movie I catch more foreshadowing and more layers, and ask more questions.

When my wife and I watched The Prestige we were so blown away, we never even bothered with The Illusionist because we figured there was no way it could be 1/10th as good.

I saw "The Illusionist" in the theater... and before they showed it they showed a trailr for "The Prestige."

"The Illusionist" was pretty good, but even against a preview, it lost next to "Prestige."

Today I have been mostly watching Tombstone (Val Kilmer can act shock horror) and the ever perfect Black Narcissus.

Tombstone was very simplistic, enjoyable but felt rather old fashioned for such a recent film where as Black Narcissus is shockingly modern considering when it was made and has the scariest face ever to grace the silver screen.

If you haven't already, for crying out loud get your hands on Black Narcissus (it gave me a few ideas how to redux the Anakin Mace Palpatine window scene) it is melodrama but taken to the level of high art.

Watched all but The Descent.  If I had to sum up watching the four movies with one word, it would be "frustrating."

9: I wanted to like this more than I did.  It should have been right in my wheelhouse, but I think all the positive reviews I read led me to think it would be better than it was.  I also realized that in the past month or so I've also watched District 9 and Session 9, so maybe I'm just sick of that number.

Resident Evil: With low expectations I was able to enjoy this, but it could have been so much better.  There was some neat stuff (opening and ending, The Red Queen, zombie dogs) and some awful stuff (inconsistent zombie threats, an awful awful CGI character, lame end fight).  Something I really hate in zombie movies is when a protagonist is surrounded by hordes of zombies clawing at his/her entire body, and all it takes is a bit of blood or saliva to infect the protagonist, and yet they don't get infected.

Quarantine: If I hadn't seen [Rec] first, I would have loved it. Instead it was fine but nothing special, since most of it is a direct copy of [Rec].  A couple of new things were pretty cool, however (especially the dog).

Sunshine: Another frustrating experience, the first two thirds were great and then it fell apart for me starting with the discovery of the airlock malfunction.
