Adapting Seven Samurai as a Prequel Idea

So... I had this idea that maybe Episode One could be written as a "rip-off/homage" to Seven Samurai similar to the way that Hidden Fortress influenced A New Hope.

All I've got so far is the idea that Obi-Wan is a loansome Jedi who gets sucked into a small conflict on the periphery of the war and then six other Jedi join his small cause.  In Episode 2, you can expand his ifluence into the rest of the War.

I've never actually made it all the way through Seven Samurai, but I have seen several versions of Magnificent Seven... so my comments are more based on that.

What do you think?

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

It seems alright on the face of it. Would Anakin be one of the peasants?

You really should watch it all the way through. It's a good movie.

I'm more thinking along the lines of this, which is a pretty loose interp:

Backwater Planet that hasn't been involved in the war.  Obi-Wan is hiding out on it, along with several other Jedi who just want to stay uninvolved.  Then the war comes to the planet somehow.  Maybe the enemy is setting up a canon or something on the surface, and they've started to somehow threaten the peace of the locals.  Anakin, perhaps a recon pilot in the Republic Navy, is shot down, and then finds out what the enemy is doing.  He enlists the help of Obi-Wan, who is at first slow to react, but then he and the other 6 Jedi reluctantly get dragged into the conflict.  During the movie, Anakin and Obi-Wan form a bond so that when Anakin leaves at the end to return and report, Obi-Wan and maybe a few of the other Jedi go too...

Or not.  I actually have an outline that I should post on here sometime... (maybe if this forum ever takes off) and that's not in it at all.  But the outline I have is all from scratch, and I've been locked in on the ideas in for a long time... I was trying to think of completely new angles to look at an Episode 1 and this was one of them.

You mean, watching several versions/sequels of the Magnificent Seven isn't good enough?  ;)

What are Jedi but space samurai anyway? ;) I was thinking it's worth watching for the look and feel of the movie. Wikipedia has a summary of the differences between the two: Differences from Seven Samurai

I say post your outline so that there's something to discuss.

It might be worth noting that the first ever story-arc in the Star Wars comics was an adaptation of Seven Samurai with Han, Chewie, and a giant rabbit.

Yes, pictures or it didn't happen.  I'm interested in any picture featuring a giant rabbit in the Star Wars Universe.

This is a great idea, xhonzi.   Maybe the Hutts could hire mercenaries to exact "tribute" from various planets/settlements, one of which hires Jedi to protect itself.
