Ok, so after absorbing the input from the active members of the league, and doing some deliberation, I've decided to stop making roster moves for the non-active members of the league.

That doesn't mean I'm not still willing to help everyone out.  If you don't understand something about the rules, if you are having trouble making roster changes, if you want some general tips, feel free to ask.

But no more commissioner moves simply because a team has 4 players on the DL in the starting lineup and they haven't made any changes since April.  You snooze, you lose.

I will not be reversing any moves I've made previously.  What's done is done.  And I will not be killing off non-active teams by moving their players to the bench.  However their rosters look as of this moment will be how they will look for the rest of the season, unless they make changes themselves.

Anchorhead, I like your pickups of Rolen and Barajas.

I'm glad Jeter isn't going on the DL like I thought he would.  Now I can continue to crush you all.

I wouldn't consider 0.5 points "crushing," but your team is doing very well indeed.

And the league is suddenly heating up with moves!

Ripplin may make me pay dearly for two moves I've made:

1) He picked up Troy Glaus.  I had a choice a few days back between Glaus and Big Papi Ortiz.  I went with Ortiz, but I may have made the wrong choice.

2) He also picked up Jose Lopez, who I dropped for Martin Prado. Lopez was pretty good last year but stunk this year.  Of course he's been quite good since I dropped him.

Oh well, the peril of making lots of moves, I suppose...

I picked up Papi in my other league a couple of days ago. Decided not to play him yesterday and he hit a homer. Oh well. :p (also missed out on two homers by Konerko)

Lopez...I dunno. Just seeing if he can keep up his consistency for a while. I also like that he's a three position player.

It would be neat if there was a way, other than physical stat tracking, to see how many of the total homers, RBI, sb, etc...someone had at the end of year that we actually got points for. It's painful seeing a guy on the bench have an awesome game knowing the guy you put in in favor of him went 0/4. Haha.

I had Papi on my bench yesterday too.  He's been much better on the road so far.

The only reason I hung on to Lopez as long as I did was because of the 1b/2b/3b eligibility, and one reason I pulled the trigger on Prado is that he has the same positions.

Yes, it would be neat.

Thanks.  I have been reluctant to make any major changes because I've been holding - a no need to over-think it sort of thing.

These seemed safe, so I tweaked.

Mildly off-topic;  Any thoughts on the perfect game bad call?

I think everyone involved has gone above & beyond with regard to the outcome. Hats off to all of them.  However, I'd like to see the call reversed.

My opinion, especially given all the dead teams, is that this is a very shallow league for a 10-team league.  Shallow leagues are those that have very deep free agent pools, which is counter-intuitive.  Perhaps it refers to the team rosters being shallow.  Anyway, there are LOTS of good free agents in our league, so I never hesitate to cut my back-end players to take a shot on a current hot streak.

It occasionally backfires (as it might with my release of Jose Lopez) but usually I'm the better for it.  Check out this list of players I have now that I did not draft (with current yahoo rank in parenthesis)

C - Olivo (118)
1B, 2B, 3B- Prado (43)
OF - Heyward (34)
2B, 3B - McGhee (38)
1B - Ortiz (119)
SP - Garcia (33)
RP - Rauch (177)
RP - Dotel (184)
SP - Price (21)
SP - Strasburg (-) (ML debut June 8)

Repeat - I didn't draft any of these guys.  That's nearly 50% of my roster.  In a 10-team league, I'd much rather make too many moves than too few moves.

Wow, I didn't even know about this. Just looked it up. Yeah, I think they should reverse it for sure. This is definitely special circumstances.

In other news, three perfect games this year already?! :o

And the other side of the add/drop coin, a partial list of guys I've dumped (pre-seaon rank versus current rank in parenthesis)

OF Jones (78 / 781)
2B, 3B Beckham (134 / 1019)
SP Peavy (136 / 944)
RP Gonzalez (259 / 870)
SP Lackey (126 / 971)
RP Hoffman (248 / 1041)

For reference, Jose Lopez is 144/841.  He's also 865 for the month.  But he's 40 in the last week!

One last thing - I dropped SP Liriano (140/144) a while back after a few poor outings, and was still able to get him back when he starting pitching better again.  Yet another reason active leagues with more teams are better - if I drop someone like that, someone else should pick him up on the chance he gets better.

I agree with Anchor on the missed call perfect game thing, except I don't think it should be reversed.  The ump blew the call and instant reply is not in place for that by rule.  That's the rule, that's how it should remain in the record books.

If they change the rule and allow instant replay at first base, that would be a different story.

Normally, I'd never be for reversing a call\game.  However, this one was too significant in terms of history and everyone involved has acknowledged it was the wrong call.  Plus, it wouldn't affect the outcome of the season.

I thought it was very classy for Galaraga to bring out the line-up card today.  I hope the boneheaded fans who are talking about injuring Joyce and threatening his family are paying close attention to how professionals behave.

Its very unfortunate that this happened.    The call was clearly a bad call.   But, I am against going back and reversing a call once the game has ended.  There are 1000s of games across sports where the officials blew calls that had major impact.   Why is it ok in this one instance and not the others?   As for instant replay,  I think the rule clearly needs to be expanded.   I've never understood what people have against the use of instant replay and this clearly shows why it be used more.     I think it should be used for everything except balls and strikes.  What else do people need in order to see the need for instant replay?  A blown call that  effects the outcome of game 7 of the World Series?

Frink, even if they change the instant replay rule,  you can't go back and change the results of a game that is already in the books.  If you could, there'd be an awful lot of additional games to go back to and change.

You misunderstand me, Warb.  All I meant was that if they change the instant replay rule, and something like this happens again, they wouldn't have to change the result of the play after the game because they could do it during the game.  In my mind, this particular game should never be a perfect game because that's the way it was called when the rules didn't allow instant replay.

Ah, now I get you.  I agree with you completely.   Although there is a part of me that would love to go back and give that guy his perfect game.  But, that is not how things work.

Yes, that's true. If they made an exception in this case, there would be all kinds of current and retired players saying 'hey, what aboutt he time I [whatever]?!' :p I feel bad for Joyce, getting threats and such, but am not surprised whatsoever, sadly.

I just heard that Ken Griffey, Jr. announced his retirement a few hours before this incident. So, what should have been the biggest story was put on the back burner...

Well, Ken had an amazing career. I think he could've been the all-time homerun leader had he not been bothered by injuries so much. He'd be way, way, way up there in other categories, too.

Missed out on a 3-run homer by Jose Lopez tonight. If I'd've acquired his services yesterday, I might've had him in tonight. :p Oh well...

Update: I see that Troy Glaus also had a homer. Ha.

Update 2: Got 3 saves today. That's a rare occurence that I'm happy about.
