3. The Han Solo Adventures (Brian Daley)

YES!!!!! I agree that these are the best things after the OT. They are pure escapist fun and true to the spirit of the films. After these come the fantastic NPR dramatizations.

There might be some hate for the prequels here on this site somewhere... maybe... but you'd have to look pretty hard for it.  It's very "between the lines" if you will...

I guess I should explain how my tastes for the OT has changed from being a kid to an adult.

Star Wars never changed for me, I always loved, still love it, and because I saw it in '77 I can enjoy it as that standalone movie it was originally made for, or enjoy it part of the trilogy too.

Empire changed for me from 1980.  When I saw it in '80 as an 8 year old, I wasn't a huge fan.  It was just too dark for me at that age, and the one thing that I still remember was wincing when Han cut that Tauntaun open!  I remember being annoyed the good guys lost and there was no ending.  Of course years later, I rewatched the trilogy in highschool in the context of it being part 2 of 3, and absolutely loving it and realizing how great it was.  I probably love Star Wars more, but Empire is the better made movie.

As for Jedi, I LOOOOVVVEDDD in 83.  I was only 10 so the ewoks didn't bother me, but I just remember that the first SW movie I was old enough to anticipate.  I remember it being called Revenge of the Jedi in the summer of '82.  I remember seeing all the previews on TV, and couldn't wait to see it.  Back as a kid I loved the Jabba scenes, as I thought he was the coolest villain.  And the one scene i loved was Obiwan talking to Luke on Dagobah about Anakin, and seeing the trilogy come full circle.  The ending was awesome, and I just remember being totally juiced when I got home that summer day!  Years later, the movie didn't hold up as much for me.  The Jabba's scenes are too long, the ewoks are annoying, and now it definitely ranks last of the OOT for me.

Look, I generally defend the prequels (at least in good fanedit form), but you gotta remember what website you are on.  This ain't bothtrilogies.com.

I was rather hopeful that bothtrilogies.com would be something rather unhinged.

No, I actually mean the whole show. I prefer it to any/all of the prequel films.

There are only 3 star wars films.

Star Wars 1977

The Empire Strikes Back 1980

Return of the Jedi 1983.

I like them about equally since they tell one story, though i do know empire is the best made of all three.

The most fun, probably a tie between star wars and jedi.

I like to think there is only 1 star wars trilogy, and 1 indiana jones trilogy.  everything that came after is self parody and a lame joke pulled on the fans.

I know. But being an OT fan doesn't mean that I have to hate the PT or anything that came with/after it. But I respect everyone's opinions of course.

I can't stand Jedi Rocks, and ANH Jabba annoys me, so I would rather watch the original TPM with creepy puppet Yoda in it than to watch those scenes. I have not nor will I ever see the OT Blurays.

I used to really enjoy the prequels and put them on a par with the original trilogy... but then TPM was re-released and I had to reconsider that.

01- Empire
02- A New Hope (a very close #2)
03- Jedi

04 to 06- The prequels (DISTANT #4 to #6; it's pointless to rank them beyond this)

All I really want is each film as it was originally seen and heard in theaters; no fixes, corrections, "improvements" or modifications necessary.

I saw the OT as a kid on VHS in it's...er, original glory. Saw the 97'SE in cinema. To be completely honest, I have no issue with the updated effect and actually enjoyed them. The pointless plot changes and CGI Jedi Rocks, on the other hand ...

1. TESB - the best of them all plot-wise. The most polished and professionally done. Also, the camera work and directing are fantastic.

2. Star Wars / ANH - close second.  Fantastic movie but just doesn't have the same quality as TESB.

3. ROTJ - sloppy, plot holes. Still, fantastic score, battles,  sequences  on board the Death Star are great drama.

4. TPM - best prequel despite huge flaws. Lovely visual design, actual props and sets, Liam Neeson. Action sequences were great and the soundtrack is amazing.

5. AOTC - distant fifth. Has its fun moments (Obi-Wan and Jango in the asteroids) but way, way too much CGI, thin plot, horrible acting. Too over the top action scenes, and not in a good campy way.

6. ROTS - I pretty much hate that one. Feels like a soap opera series. Rare moment of gold like the broadside exchange during the opening battle or Ewan McGregor's performance. Latino soap opera quality dialogue, plot, camera work, directing, sets, CGI, etc.

Mine will be an obvious pick. I started pretty late in 2003 with the VHS of Prequels first, then the 1997 SE and 2004 SE after. But later on after watching Revisited and the OUT, I started to despise any of the SEs for the unnecessary changes.

Anyway, here's mine:

First is sort of a tie between Empire Strikes Back and Star Wars (1977), they're both really great to me in different ways. Both have amazing soundtracks (well the whole original trilogy did), Star Wars was the most fun and uplifting one but Empire had the more engaging story and plot to me (tend to have a thing for darker stories. hehe) and has my favourite lightsaber duel between Luke and Vader.

But if I had to choose, it'd be Empire Strikes Back first and Star Wars second.

And then Return of the Jedi after. As many have said, I didn't really favour the Ewoks as much but it's the Space battle and final confrontation between Luke, Vader and the Emperor that make up for it.

As for the Prequels, it would have to be The Phantom Menace as it felt more like a Star Wars film to me as opposed to the clean and sleek look in the other two, and I still really enjoy the duel with Darth Maul. But of course, Jar Jar and Young Anakin (when he's shouting Yippee, Oops, "accidentally destroying the Trade Federation ship) just can't be tolerated for me.

I can't really decide with AOTC and ROTS as they both have problems and have a fair share of bad acting and overuse of CGI.
