I just bought the Japanese LD of The Empire Strikes Back:

It has the full John Alvin artwork, so I'm planning on scanning it in high quality.

What resolution (dpi, ppi) would you suggest at minimum for a high quality scan? I only have a low resolution scanner so I'm planning on taking it to a copy/scanning center.

One center says they can deliver 600dpi, is this photo quality?

600dpi should be more than enough.  I scanned the Betty Boop stuff at 300dpi and it was plenty.  You can clearly see the dot pattern at that resolution, so 600 may even be overkill.  One thing is for sure, it will be a huge file!
