Like our debate in the Politics thread, it's something that I can understand both sides to the issue, so it's hard for me to argue my point with you. And also like the other issue, it's something I have a strong, personal connection to and feelings about. But it's complicated. On the one hand, you could look at it like putting down a pet. They're suffering. They don't want to suffer anymore. It's selfish of the family to force the animal to continue suffering. On the other hand, the future is a ball of uncertainty, and who's to say if things won't get better? It also causes quite a bit of pain and grief for the family and friends left behind, and one might argue that's selfish. But on the other other hand, aren't people always told (in terms of careers), "You have to follow your own path, not the one that your family wants you to take, because you're the one who's going to have to live with it"? So, yeah, it's complicated.
