GOUT are the 2006 versions (and doesn't refer to any other set). OOT are the Original Original Trilogy, meaning not the 'plop a 1993 LD transfer on a disc to shut them up' versions we got in 2006. ;)

Moth3r has an acronym buster around somewhere...

That's what I said! ;-)

I can't believe he figured out the George part!

Yeah, that's pretty impressive. When I first started lurking, I thought it stood for "Good Old Untouched Trilogy." That guess was quickly jettisoned when I realized it didn't really make any sense...

I googled GOUT when I first signed up and got some pretty unsightly results. I figured out what it meant eventually, though.

I upped the NTSC DVD9 of Adywans A New Hope Revisited to alt.binaries.dvd and alt.binaries.starwars for anyone looking to get a copy.  Been over a year since anyone posted it.

I have ANH:R DVD9 NTSC and Adywan's EP1 colour correction seeding on Bittorrent for those that need it as well.

Seeding the PAL DVD9 as well.

Forgive me if this has been addressed already.  I am still trying to catch up.  But as I looked at the stills in this post I noticed the "spokes" or support beams above in the skylight.  From the outside, it looks like there may be about 12-14 spokes.  But from inside, looks like 25-30 spokes.  Am I seeing that right, and is it worth fixing (or even possible)?

You'll be glad to know this one is being fixed too dphirschler.

Seems adywan is removing the outermost top structure when we first see Leia through the window, so the inside number of 'spokes' will seem fine now.

Is he also removing the center window?

Hey! This is interesting!

They even have the GOUT shadow of the exterior pylon there!

Good spot

:D

Yeah nicely spotted DarthBO, it's a pity the way that the 'improvements' were made to the films, ILM could have rewinded a few frames to see that they had created continuity mistakes, maybe they did realise and hoped they didn't jarr and that the viewer would be distracted by the Cloud-car flying overhead.

My suggestion is to go back to the original GOUT interior without exterior elements happening through the skylight.

Very nice Angel (as usual ...where have you been???), but why fix ILM's SE goofs??, go back to GOUT

(I'm surprised you didn't reinstert more detail, but as you said, it's a test.)

More detail? Where? :O

@ Jaitea: Im flying around matey ;)

Wow, really good catch. That's a pretty big goof, but I imagine that would be very difficult to fix in motion.

I love the new test shot you posted, Adywan! What a difference. The matte shot never really looked bad, but it definitely lacked a feeling of "depth". With the new motion added it really looks like a camera zoom in a real set. Fantastic.

I hope Ady is feeling better now - that sounded pretty scary there about his headache and vision loss. He really needs to be careful not to stretch himself too thin.

Some of the detail created by shadows is washed out maybe more than you intended. No big deal.

Ah! At the end i was experimenting with that approach.

Im wondering in some later shots that shows the rest of the interior and this top window shouldn't be seeing some of the exterior structure?

Hi everybody!

I think I've found the truth: that shadow on the wall IS NOT the ceiling, but an object between the sun and the wall (most plausible explanation: a tall building in front of the apartment). If you watch closely, you'll see the shadow of the open ceiling cast on the floor. So there's no window to open because IT IS opened already :-)

Hope this sheds some light on the shadows ;-)

Your idea euroherbal, is a good suggestion to explain why the shadow is how it is now in the SE versions of the film, but if you look at the GOUT version it shows that the blue circle in the middle of the ceiling is solid and not a window & the blue seen through the other openings is not sky either!!??

Yes, the GOUT makes it pretty clear that the decision to make it open sky was done for the SE, hence the new matepainting of the bulding.

Also, I noticed that at the moment Leia starts walking, there is some obvious bad rotoscoping visible on her head bun in the SE, which doesn't seem to be present in the GOUT, will this be adressed?

Yes my friends, I know the top window is opaque in the GOUT, but that circle shadow does not correspond to it. If you follow the slanted direction of the light source, that mysterious shadow would be elliptical not round, and it would be projected on the floor... what's more, the bars' shadow end abruptely sharp on the circle shadow while they should end with rounded joints (as the bars are clearly built that way).

I don't know what that round shadow shape may be, but definitively it is not an opaque top window :-)
