LOL yes, I know it's surprising, but I'm a young'un and ANH seemed a little slow for me.  Keep in mind that the first OT versions I saw were the 1997 SE's, so I'm a new Star Wars fan.

LOL yes, I know it's surprising, but I'm a young'un and ANH seemed a little slow for me.

Evidence that Lucas' "Modernize the old films so that young audiences will appreciate them" approach is not working.

You know, I could take a 1952 Studebaker V* and slap neons on the undercarriage, chameleon paint on the body, a top-notch bass-heavy sound system in the trunk...and it's still a 59 year-old car. Lucas just doesn't get this when he puts new footage and effects into a movie dating back to the Gerald Ford administration.**

* - I have no idea if such a car exists, and I'm not Googling to find out. Just go with it.

** - I know it released during the Carter years, but production began during the Ford administration. Technically, Lucas' first notes date back to Nixon's first term, so I could have gone there if inclined.

The sad part is that if a modern kid got to see the original version in a huge old theater in 70mm, the way many 70s kids got to see it,  even today they'd like it better than seeing the 2004 version in a multiplex.

I also first saw the 97SEs. Mine are:

1.ANH-ESB tie. I like both equally for different reasons. ESB appeals to my story tastes and ANH makes me feel like a kid again.

2.ROTJ

And because I have to list all six...

3.TPM-most enjoyable of the prequels as a standalone film. The DVD version ruins any charm this may have had by adding in even more crap (and the almost obligatory SW pink tint on home video). Thanks to Ady for making the theatrical cut available again. I also like to watch RLM's TPM review with the film so that I can laugh amidst all the pain.

4.RLM's AOTC Review

5.AOTC-For some reason I had to see this film 4 or 5 times in the theater and it became unbearable. Holds the record for the only film to make me physically sick (saw it last in an IMAX dome-never see a theatrical film that way-EVER!!)

6.ROTS-this has to be just about the most depressing movie experience. All of the tedious events of the previous two building blocks were all for nothing and only gave us more tedium! Bad dialogue, bad acting, terrible fights, and completely boring. When SW becomes both tedious and boring then you definitely have some serious problems. Give me Backstroke of the West any day. Still the only SW film I have seen one time. I actually do enjoy the novelization though because it really goes into the character's heads and gives them badly needed motivations and depth. Something that no midiclorian can provide.

VADER!? WHERE THE HELL IS MY MOCHA LATTE? -Palpy on a very bad day.

Empire Strikes Back

Star Wars - Yes, none of that A New Hope bullshit.

Return Of The Jedi

"The other versions will disappear. Even the 35 million tapes of Star Wars out there won’t last more than 30 or 40 years. A hundred years from now, the only version of the movie that anyone will remember will be the DVD version [of the Special Edition], and you’ll be able to project it on a 20’ by 40’ screen with perfect quality. I think it’s the director’s prerogative, not the studio’s to go back and reinvent a movie." - George Lucas

ESB
ANH
ROTJ
Going Back to Highschool
Doing Homework
Getting a Wedgie and then a Swirly
Getting Punched in the face
Getting strangled to death
Watching my wife and kids brutally murdered by people in clown suits while they pour melted wax on my arms and legs, and then rip my hair out.
Then a three way tie between 1, 2, & 3, assuming someone actually made Star Wars Prequels and they were as terrible as I assume they would be.  ;)

But here's my non-hyperbolic interpretation of the Prequels:  As far as quality goes, RotS was the best, AotC was 2nd, and TPM was the worst.  HOWEVER, how good each film should have been runs the same way.  TPM could have been "meh" as long as AotC was "pretty good" and RotS was "AWESOME!"  But TPM failed to reach "meh" and AotC was merely "meh" and RotS was maybe a hair above "meh."  Therefore, RotS is the best AND the most disappointing, AotC is 2nd best and 2nd most disappointing... and TPM continues to fail at being 'meh.'

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

Rewrite the Prequels!

I don't have a problem where you rank ANH, it just pisses me off that Lucas continues to change the OOT to capture a new generation, and it is clear that it doesn't make a difference, and all you do is piss off the people who love the original versions.  Now nobody loves ANH, good job George!!!

KOTOR 1 and 2  (Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) are video games for the XBOX. Completing each game takes dozens of hours. Replaying several quests many times is sometimes necessary. The voice acting is good, not great, the graphics are good by 2001 standards, and some missions take you out of the story from time to time.

Despite these shortcomings, both of these games smoke the hell out of any of the prequels; hence my inclusion of both on my movies list. As video games, they're better than any Star Wars movie made since 1983. Therefore, they go on my list.
