Evidence that Lucas' "Modernize the old films so that young audiences will appreciate them" approach is not working.
You know, I could take a 1952 Studebaker V* and slap neons on the undercarriage, chameleon paint on the body, a top-notch bass-heavy sound system in the trunk...and it's still a 59 year-old car. Lucas just doesn't get this when he puts new footage and effects into a movie dating back to the Gerald Ford administration.**
* - I have no idea if such a car exists, and I'm not Googling to find out. Just go with it.
** - I know it released during the Carter years, but production began during the Ford administration. Technically, Lucas' first notes date back to Nixon's first term, so I could have gone there if inclined.
