Zombie84 media sighting!

Ars Technica has a pretty decent article on the possibility of restoring the original theatrical cut of "Star Wars" for the blu-ray release, along with the challenges inherent in the restoration.  The article includes extensive quotes from "The Secret History of Star Wars" author Michael Kaminski.

See, Adywan's ESB release is only a week old and I'm already plugging it! :p

I have an audio recording of a 70mm print and "you're lucky you don't taste very good" is there. What's oddly missing is the line "When we find Jabba the Hutt and that bounty hunter, we'll contact you" with no break in the music.

Anybody knows this "starmike" fellow, and can introduce him to hairy_hen ?

However, in practice you must take into account the “fuckwit factor”. Just talk to Darth Mallwalker…

Interestingly, I found this thread during one of my daily google searches for "zombie sightings."

I was about to post about this myself. Audio from the 70mm would be invaluable.

I've been waiting for a Zombie84 thread. I was trying to make my own media sighting by convincing my local library to buy a copy of Secret History a couple months ago, and this is what I got back:

I figured they wouldn't find one, but they claim they found one at another library and couldn't get them to let them borrow it. I thought that was crazy.

"IT'S MINE!" said the other library.

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

"[George Lucas] rebooted the franchise in 1997 without telling anyone." -skyjedi2005

"Yeah, well, George says a lot of things..." a young 1997 xhonzi on RASSM

"They're my movies." -George Lucas. 19 people won oscars for their work on Star Wars (1977) and George Lucas wasn't one of them.

That guy should definitely be contacted!

A very interesting article... thanks for sharing.  On the one hand, I'm happy to hear that an original hi-def version of Star Wars is possible.  On the other hand, I'm frustrated that LFL hasn't done one yet given their resources.

That's great!

Hope he is willing to share it in some form, it would be amazing to finally hear it.

Ha, interesting. Appreciate the effort though! :)

If they have access to university libraries then Clemson University for sure has one. Apparently they don't do public loans?

Well, I signed up for the arstechnica site to try to contact this starmike fellow, but the site won't let anyone e-mail other users, and I can't PM him either because I'm still a n00b, apparently.  "We are sorry, but you are not authorised to use this feature. You may have just registered here and may need to participate more to be able to use this feature."

I haven't the patience to troll around a site I'm not familiar with to score brownie points in hopes of getting in touch with someone who may or may not have what he claims.  But I don't want to see this possibility slip out of reach, either.  Is anyone else here a member of that site and able to get in touch with him?  If he really does have an ESB 70mm recording, it would be a great resource for the OT community, and I would certainly try to do something with it if I could.

Oh, and nice article by the way, Zombie84.  ;)

A little desperate but maybe you can make a reply comment in the article, maybe he will catch it.

I'm a long time member of Ars Technica, and just found this site from the article there.   I've PM'd starmike, asking him to check in here, and if I get a reply I'll let you know.

Unfortunately, he only has a single post on that forum (he must have registered just to post in the comment thread), so I'm unsure if he'll read the PM quickly or at all.

Worth a shot though!
