What if...?

Thought it might be fun to post some hypothetical stuff and see how people feel about it. Here's the first one:

What if...the original trilogy and all information about them had never existed, but the prequels had still been released on the same dates exactly as they are?

Do you think you'd like them? Would they seem like typical special effects-laden summer blockbuster-type movies without those ties to the past? Do you think you'd view them a little less critically, not having seen the superior movies that made them possible?

Impossible to say for sure, but I don't mind a bit of speculation now and then. I think I would've liked them about as much as I do now, perhaps a smidgen more, since the OT wasn't around to expose the nonsense in them so much. I'd still hate Jar Jar, of course, no matter what! And all the political mumbo-jumbo would still befuddle me because of my apathy for it.

I do shudder to think what episodes 4-6 would be like if they were to be made after the PT! :S

I wouldn't have seen them.  I tend to avoid the "summer blockbuster" type films unless there comes a buzz after release and the general consensus is that they are actually good.  That wouldn't have happened for TPM even without the OT, so no go for me.  And therefore i wouldn't have even given AOTC or ROTS a moment's thought.

I probably would have seen Episode 1 and would have liked it ok.  Since it didn't have the standards of the OT to live up to, things like the midiclorians wouldn't would have been so bad.

I don't think I would have liked enough to see any sequels after that.  And I certainly wouldn't have spent any money on toys.

There wouldn't have been any sequels to the Phantom Menace.  Unless that's part of the What if as well...

IT'S MY TRILOGY, AND I WANT IT NOW!

TPM wouldn't make any sense in its current form without the preknowledge from the OT in my opinion. It would have been a huge flop because no one would know what was going on.

I probably would have liked the PT more than I now.    It wouldn't have the problems with the inconsistencies with the OT.   I also wouldn't have had as bad a problem with Anakin Skywalker being a whiny jerk, because I wouldn't be comparing him to Darth Vader and saying "that's that guy in the Darth Vader mask??????".    I guess  I also wouldn't have had as bad a problem with Yoda either.   I wouldn't be constantly comparing the Cgi Yoda to the puppet Yoda, and I wouldn't have as bad a problem the Jedi Council(under his leadership) making so many bad decisions(like appointing a rookie jedi to train Anakin).

Then I think the PT would have been a great space-opera-epic kind of thing. A little ham-handed, but a load of fun, standing out slightly from the average CGI-fest due to it's unique and interesting setting.

BUT in this scenario, there would need to be at least minor changes to the PT. For example they never explain what Jedi do or what the Force is, having expected the audience to have already seen "Star Wars."
