Btw, I'd like to thanks here again and give credits to:

  • Seventiesfilmnut (7FN) (aka Nerfherder now) for having provided the RSO LP transfers. He may temper his role in this while actually the material he sent to me - let's precise by request - was just vital for this edit(ion)!

  • Msycamore who pointed me on the most valuable sources about those recordings in order for myself to understand what is what, what was wrong and why, as to help me use my intuition the best way about the lacks and defects of these recordings.

Thank you again ABC for your talent and perfectionism! I've only posted my comments on CD 2 directly to ABC but I just wanted to say that my first impression of his last version is that I think it's sounding very much like a good sounding vinyl recording, warm, airy and detailed. Some may be thinking that this version isn't an actual improvement at first listen and will not notice them so clearly, but imo. that's because in his earlier attempts many of the tracks stood out from the rest as sounding very good, in this version I think he have finally suceeded in making every track (even the worst ones) have the same signature of EQ and as a result sounding much more cohesive. Overall it's a great homage to the sound of the original album release, I still love the original wide "filmmixes" but this one will rotate in my player the most. Thank you! :)

We want you to be aware that we have no plans—now or in the future—to restore the earlier versions.

Sincerely, Lynne Hale publicity@lucasfilm.com

Just giving you a huge thanks! (apparently, I can't reply to your PM) Busy weekend for me. But I'll be sure to leave a message here as soon as I get a chance to listen. Thanks so much!

Jup, wanna join in the thanks! Real life has calmed down a bit, so I'll let you know what I think of the set soon. I'm out of CD-Rs, so I'll listen to it with my PC speakers...which are actually better than my boom box speakers ;)

Thanks for sending me the links to this ABC hopefully over the weekend I get a chance to listen to it and ilkl submit some feed back next week.

Okay...before I start with the actual set, some words about the book...let (it's really more of a book than just an extensive booklet). The effort behind this is just awe-inspiring. Perhaps you know my TIE Fighter preservation, and I did other non-Star Wars custom game soundtracks in the past, also designing covers for them. Creating a good standard CD cover, inlay etc is time-consuming enough, but this one...wow. I won't comment about the art because there's a separate thread for it, except that I LOVE the Executor cover.

That said, I discovered three little spelling errors in your notes about the AE:

Sheet3a - depht -> depth
Sheet4a - same as above
Sheet4a - unexistant -> nonexistent

Hm, i have read parts of the thread now and it seems you weren't all too happy about past response to your work...

Well i stumbled upon this forum a short time ago becasue of the Star Wars Revisited Releases and as i'm a big soundtrack fan i noticed your thread.

I'm a big John Williams fan and didnt't know a thing about your past efforts with the ESB soundtrack...on the Jwfan.net message board nobody ever mentioned it i think.

So you could count on my feedback and i'm sure a lot of other jwfan.net members would be interested and reply too if  you would post there.

In fact there are huge threads about the Star Wars OldTrilogy and Prequel soundtracks too with custom made versions

Hey ABC, your PM's aren't working so I'll post here:

----------

ABC,

Words cannot express how amazed I am by your work. I downloaded Part 1 yesterday, and I was just amazed by the beautiful mix and sound that you've achieved here. The EQ's are fantastic, and you have done a superb job with the pitches/speed. Listening to this just accentuates the warm sound that Williams/LSO created, and this very nearly has brought tears to my eyes.

I cannot thank you enough for your dedication, research, and months of hard work you put into this, and I would like to say that this is completely worth it. I will download Part 2 right now and give it a listen. My graduation was yesterday so I haven't had too much time to listen to it at length yet, but I will write a longer reply of my complete thoughts within just a few days. Again, I am so grateful for your work, thank you.

Sincerely,

Jonathan

Er, I just sent a PM to ABC on an unrelated topic and it looks to have been delivered.  Perhaps he's ignoring you or his inbox is full?  It should tell you exactly what the issue is either way.

Hey, if you have a chance to let us see that, please go ahead... I don't even know if I'm going to use those arts for myself ! You can post shots in this thread or the AE covers thread, whatever.

ABC, are the last links you sent me an additional improvement over the one before that, or was there another encoding glitch that needed correcting?  I'm afraid I'm a bit confused.  The ones I've got are already incredible, but hey, any upgrade is welcome in my book.  ;)

Well ABC this is really, really well done, hats off to you buddy, and I see you are an expert at EAC now, LOVE that you included the .cue sheet, sure takes ALL guess work out of burning, there is NO way for a screw up.

Going to start making me some new ring tones for my Son's and my cell phones, gotta have the Imperial March on my phone LOL.

Thanks again, I really appreciate the links.

ps. cutting my little guys hair and we are jamming disc 1 right now.

I don't get the interest of having an audiophile quality source as a ring tone, excuse me. I would have the SE version on a phone I guess I wouldn't tell the difference myself.

But I can tell if I'd like to troll at my best at in buses, subways or work I would use this one version: http://www.megaupload.com/?d=PDJEOGM5

... If someone knows where it comes from I'd like to know.

ABC,

I just sent a PM to you, but if you've turned them off, I just wanted to reiterate the message here.

Many thanks for all the work you've done to get one of the greatest scores of all time to this point.  I'm only currently downloading part 1, but will get to part 2 as soon as I can.

With today officially being the 30th anniversary of The Empire Strikes Back, I'm actually giddy to have the best available version of the score, as well as Adywan's release of a cleaned up and restored theatrical cut of the film itself.  Truly a great day!

I'll give the entire set a listen this weekend (hopefully), and will post some thoughts here if anything strikes me while listening.  I also can't wait to see what you've done with the cover and booklet.

Again, many thanks my friend!

O.T. or No T., baby!

Ah, friday - I can enjoy the AE leisurely over the weekend. ABC, you seem to be knowledgeable in those things, so a question - what is the best way to burn it into a CD (I use Nero 6)?

.cue file -> Burn Image -> low speed -> check data after burning -> use a good cd?

I would love to hear the AE on a proper CD player-based audio system, but I hope I don't mess up during the burning.

Oh, and happy TESB anniversary! Thanks for giving us the score clear and crisp as it should be! :D

Hello. I just wrote a big review for 2 1/2 hours. I send it. Suddenly OT.com asks me on a new page to log in again. I went back to copy my long review, but it was gone. I looked for any kind of drafts after logging in but it wasn't there. I'm out of my mind.

Ok, i'll write another though. But shorter.

Happy ESB day to averybody incl. George Lucas (where would we be without him).

ABC: thank you for all your work(s). The result is simply beautiful.

                                  REVIEW of ESB AE

I have to say that a lots of things in life are the matter of taste and ABC's has a very good one.

cd 1 & 2

This successful work of ABC not only manages to make all 3 music sources sound alike but also manages to sound like first RSO release, deep, clear and now completed. I allwas liked Tomlissons Anthology: crude and direct 120° panorama - mixes most because they made me listen as if was there where I sit last 20 years: in the middle of an Orchestra. This AE mix of yours is more like sitting in a 10th raw of filled 1000-places middle big concert hall. It is beautiful to be able to listen ESB in RSO-way but fullfiled.

I didn't read details about the mixes of separate tracks yet , but listened to the whole in one piece. It's a most complete fullfilled version to date, the most cohesive version with a deep clear sound through it all. I enjoyed it like a great expensive meal, knowing that it's complicated cooking but not wanting to know the ingrediants in detail - to enjoy its magic. It's a labour of craft and love!

The things I noticed:

- LP-cracklings at quiet passages may disturb someone, I enjoyed them like fire-cracklings in warm home and was smiling all the time

- 2 connections missing: "Darth Vader's trap" / "Departure of Boba Fett" (same thematic material, "dealing lightmotiff) as well "Escape from Bespin"/"Hyperspace" (build up/ release) were recorded separately but belong together musically as well as they do in the movie. Now I have to mix them together and integrate myself. Maybe even Luke's first crash / the rebels escape.

- i forgot what I wrote as 3. but i did write something :-(

cd 3

Beautiful new mix of a superb 2 LP - transfer. Deep, clear, SOFT! So nice to hear a real vinyl sound in digital media!

Booklet and artwork

Beautiful. Great pictures and photos compositions, great choices. Very tasteful. Most beautiful artwork for any SW release till date.

Overall thoughts

Most people who love OT are probably in their middle age now. I suppose, the extent of a scene where Yoda pulling Luke's ship out of a swamp doesn't make sense for younger audience used to see force using in SWTCW where Jedi move anything very easy. As I was 11 and Yoda pulled that ship out of swamp, it was like : look what is possible if you really want it! It is difficult to make this dry studio-recorded music for film to sound like balanced dynamised concert performance which was not what it was ment for. At least not until ROTJ came - it's much more hi-fi quality recording. Therefore, it's a great thing for any fan to listen to ESB in all its glory sounding in the same time very original (RSO) and cohesive from the beginning to the end. I was listening to it yesterday with ESB movie put on silent, just music and pictures, and would strongly reccomend Adywan to use it for his ESB:revisited music-only-track. There is some unused score which now could be placed where it belongs. Almost the whole movie was actually scored. Also, ANH and ESB are very strings-driven scores. Maybe it's oldfashioned today, but gives warmth to the story, in contrary to prequels where 24 violins have same volume as 1 oboe (unrealistic) and it's all too quiet because of lightsabers hum or flying ships..the 5.1 music mix phenomenon: too quiet. Adywan, do you plan to make music louder in the rest of a saga? Would be nice... ROTJ stands somewhere inbetween and is probably the best recorded score of entire saga. Musically, for me it's ESB.

Dear George, if you read this, tallented people like Adywan and ABC should actually sit in your ranch as heads of departements instead of other people doing... what exactly?

Greets to ABC, all members, readers, and make yourself a nice jubilee today!
