What bodies in what cave?  What show were those clips from?  I was like, "Whoah, they found bodies in a cave?!?!?"  Maybe it's a flashforward to something we'll see later.  Maybe that happens when the doctor-guy and the bra-girl from the alternate-timeline go to the island with the wheelchair-dude.

Yeah, I thought that was a little unneccessary.

Here's my complaint:

This show has a pattern of peeling back a layer just to show you that what you want to know is one step further down.

i.e:
1. The other's! They must know what is going on!
2. No, they just live in old DHARMA buildings, they are the ones who knew what was going on!
3. Actually, DHARMA didn't know anything, it was the others all along!
4. Well, not the others, exactly... but Ben Linus, Richard Alpert, and Charles Widmore sure have it figured out!
5. Wait, no... Richard only know what time traveling Locke tells him. He actually really doesn't know anything.
5.a. And Ben and Widmore are equally clueless.
6. Doesn't somebody know something?
7. Oh, Jacob... Yeah, he's the big boss. He'll know what's going on.
8. Or maybe that MIB.
9. No wait! It's the woman who raised Jacob. Jacob himself is totally clueless!
10.  The woman?  No, she was just selected to do this job sometime ago by someone else.

For an island in the South Pacific there sure seem to be a lot of white people on it.

But yeah, this episode answered questions that I'd forgotten about (Adam and Eve) and did not deal with questions I'm highly concerned with (Why is MiB leaving so bad, why does Jacob have a magical lighthouse, who built the statue).

With Jacob and MiB's origin, there's now the bigger question of how Jacob can manipulate destiny if he's just some normal dude.

Tiny red text aside, I agree.

So, my friend is pretty adamant that the MIB 'unleashed' the Smoke Monster and that smokey then took the form of MIB (similar to how he has now taken the form of Locke).  I took it the other way, that he went into the Magic Yellow Light, and Mr. Manhattan style was transfigured into the smoke monster.  And that he was separated from his physical body.

Then Jacob took the body to the cave.  Some flashbacks played so that Jacob remembered that he had to lay the bodies in a particular way... Why did he do that?  So it would match season 1, of course!  He almost forgot to make them hold hands... but then another clip played reminding him how to place them just so...

A few people at my Lost/Lunch group at work are convinced that this proves the show writers knew what they were doing with the "Adam & Eve" skeletons since season 1.  In my mind, it proves they never had any idea and they picked something that 60% fits.

I predict droves and droves of season sets of Lost selling dirt cheap on amazon over the next several months...

Lost apologists insist the writers have had a detailed plan mapped out from the beginning. Anyone watching the show with open eyes should call "bullshit" on that one.

I took it as Gold Light=Smoke Monster and MiB going in let it out, so that like Locke, MiB is dead and Smoke Monster took his shape.

My wife disagreed and was of the MiB=Smoke Monster camp, and that the light went away after it transmogrified MiB.

Smoke/Locke DID say he had a crazy mother, so that's evidence for the MiB=Smoke Monster theory.

Yes, but Smocke also said: Don't tell me what I can't do!!!  So, it seems that Smokey does absorb some of the character traits of his "host" over time, so it sort of makes sMIBokey the same regardless of whether you think it's really the MIB or not.

But after this episode, we don't know as much about the smoke monster as we thought we did.

ALSO this: sMIBokey wants off the island the same way MIB wanted off the island.  So, does smokey itself want off?  Does Smocke really want off, or is it just residual memories of MIB?  MIB was presented as a slighty evil but mostly sympathetic character... but I can't say it makes me think that Smocke is anything but evil.  Unless Locke, who was good, starts to exert more control over Smocke and contains the beast long enough to instert him back into the sparkly glowy cave.

Jacob's brother IS the black smoke. He endured something 'worse' than death.

Is anyone else frustrated that they refused to name the guy? - making a big thing out of it.

Author
Time

Not frustrated; more like irritated that they used a cheap device to create intrigue. Lampshaded in Chasing Amy when Jay says something to the effect that "Oh, you think just because fatass here hasn't said anything in ten years, whatever he says now is going to be all profound and shit!?" Similarly, MIB is not more mysterious for not having a name. He's just an evil no-name guy.

In my humble opinion, Lost has officially jumped the shark.   They have 3.5 hours left to make it right.

I had a dream I saw the last episode, and it made 0 sense. Something about everything being a plot by Disney villains. Not sure how to interpret that.

So Gaston, Skar, and Cruella Deville are all behind it?  Actually, that makes more sense than what it probably will be.

So, new episode tomorrow and then a TWO AND A HALF HOUR finale on Sunday? That's crazy, my friends.

Is that so?  Just two more episodes (one of them super-long)?

Yep. This time next week it will all be over folks.

Three alternate endings on Sunday's Jimmy Kimmel Live.

Alt 2004 could, in one sense, be Alt-alt-alt-alt 2004.

Something just occured to me.

I don't think this show is going to answer any more questions. Sunday will just be an action-fest.

After all these years I'm afraid that "Glowing light of life" is actually the final answer.

No explanation on who Jacob's mother was, or who built the statue, or why Jacob can manipulate destiny and time. No deeper origin on why MiB became the smoke monster, or what are these rules have been or why people follow them or this or that. No explanaton of where the various Other's came from or what was what. No explaantion of what the magical light is or where it comes from.

In the end it all came down to "It was magic."

Seems that way to me too. Jacob flat out appearing to the candidates and telling them whats up seems to be the be all, end all for answers.
