It was probably 1991 or so when this game hooked the 16-year old me. I played it on a B&W TV. The story is good, the music is great - an absolutely engrossing atmosphere. Really, the B&W probably added to the experience.

I played way too many seasons of this. I still remember a few details about some seasons I played through:

  • On the last game of Dallas' season, I needed a huge game from Emmitt Smith for him to win the rushing title. I got it by rushing on basically every play despite the computer's ability to utterly shut down the run at the end of the season. It was something like a 300 yard game.
  • When I played a Raiders' season, I trailed 14-3 at the half of the Super Bowl against the 49ers - the best team in the game. I clawed back into it, tying the game in the fourth quarter 17-17. Then the 49ers hit John Taylor for a long one with almost no time left. Steps away from the endzone, one of my tacklers caught up to Taylor and stripped the ball. I recovered it and regulation time ran out. I won the game in OT with a field goal.
  • I wanted desperately to win the Super Bowl with the terrible Colts, but I lost three Super Bowls to the 49ers. I got back to the Super Bowl with the Colts (again versus the 49ers) and was down three points in the fourth, but I was driving for a score when I threw an interception. On the next play, the 49ers ran a sweep. My tackler hit the ball carrier and forced a fumble - and I took the recovered ball and ran it some 30 yards for a go-ahead touchdown. Seconds later, time ran out and the lowly Colts finally did it!
